Dang, but no matter what the poor kid is going to get flak for the name.

Whichever name you go for, my advice would be to do him a favor and use the traditional spelling used in your area. My name's not too uncommon, but I can probably count the number of people on this continent who can consistently spell it correctly on one hand, and that's including the folks who gave it to me. (It's Térence)

Congratulations Matt!

A few ideas from me (some of which are repetitions) - Arthur, Charles, Felix, Scott, Bruce, George

You could just go through the "real" names of comic book characters (hence Bruce comes from Batman) but choose wisely so he feels a kinship to the right hero!

Térence eh? that is a rather uncommon spelling of Zug.

As I was related this thread to my wife she came up with the Weirdo Rule:  no punctuation allowed within the name.  So D'Brickashaw is off the table.

Dan, the wife thought you were going to start naming off Royals.  The super hero idea isn't a bad method for inspiration.

I nominated Cameron or Phillip to the wife the other day.  She responded that we already have a Mitchell so what is it with me and Modern Family characters.

Some great news guys, after nearly 3 weeks I am moving on to the final interview on saturday for the ATT position I tested for. Crossing fingers.  O0

And on a hilarious note, I awoke at 2:30 am this morning to my fiancee hysterically laughing/screaming. Our pregnant cat Milo decided on our bed was the safest place to deliver her kittens...right on my fiancee's legs.  ;D

So we now need to purchase a new comforter set but whatever, lol. Strangest thing too, the cat seems to have pegged my fiancee as her mid-wife because when we tried to move the mom and baby to the box in our closet we made up for her she kept meowing and trying to carry the baby back to the bed. After 3 unsuccesful attempts Sasha gave in and ended up just moving the box next to the bed.

A question, anglos and anglophiles!  Henry I of England's mother, first wife, and four of his daughters (one legitimate, three otherwise) were named Matilda.  What's up with that?

Well, assuming he wasn't actually present at the birth and naming of his illegitimate ones and thus didn't have any say in the matter, my guess is that either the name was very popular at that time, or he had the odd luck to spend a lot of time around women who really like the name Matilda.

Ah, I was thrown by the absence of the '&'.  Congratulations and good luck.

So we decided to tell the family we were having a boy again.  We ordered a t-shirt with a sonogram picture and the phrase "Say hello to my lil bro" underneath for our first kid to wear to see his grandparents.  My MiL saw the picture and said, "oh you went to see Bao Bao," because she thought the sonogram was a picture of panda cub at the National Zoo.

People occasionally wonder why I do not have a TV, and then I run off a wee litany of various
horrors like those mentioned above.

Netflix and DVD boxed sets serve me well though, allowing me to not miss the real good stuff.
I cannot imagine how poorer my life would be without some of them, especially The Wire.

Congratulations on the new job! As long as you don't pull a Michael Grade, I'm sure you'll do well!

EDIT: And speaking of work, technically I'm working from home today (thank you, snowstorm). Although, since I was never issued a laptop, today basically consists of sitting by my computer and cell phone to answer general questions. Which is doubly ironic, since my job is considered "essential support" to my department...

And the History Channel contains actual history.  Or is forced to change its name to the "aliens, cryptids, and conspiracies channel".

As much as I liked to think that I'd have that kind of power, I really don't think that I'd have that kind of influence. The sad truth is that both the Kardashians and . . . that show about that horrific child who needs help desperately are cheap to make. Even if I somehow manipulated the numbers, I'd have to take them to such low shares that it'd be near impossible to achieve it with my job.

Plus, I kind of want to keep my job, so I won't be manipulating the numbers.

As for History channel, I'd like to see the network go back to what it was back in 1998 when it was basically the Hitler Channel. There was no Pawn Stars, Ax-men, or other macho reality shows. For people like me who can't resist Leonard Nimoy's In Search of, there was History's Mysteries that covered unusual things better than Ancient Aliens where everything is aliens. And don't ever get me started on the epic failure that History's Bible Secret Revealed which features "experts" who couldn't probably make it on Ancient Aliens: A&E once had a great series called Mysteries of the Bible that had actually Biblical scholarship that had a more even hand.

However, I don't think unless I get on the executive board of TLC or History Channel that I could make a change for the better. All I can do is make that my numbers are correct.

Congratulations on the new job! As long as you don't pull a Michael Grade, I'm sure you'll do well!

Although, since I was never issued a laptop, today basically consists of sitting by my computer and cell phone to answer general questions. Which is doubly ironic, since my job is considered "essential support" to my department...

Again, I'd actually have to be hired by a network and have some control over programming. At the moment, all I'm doing is making sure the gathered data is accurate. Though honestly if I got hired by a network for programming with free reign, I'd either be God's Gift to that network or Satan. It'd be science-fiction, smart dry comedy, and animated programing galore with little to no reality shows or cheap sitcoms, and unless audiences tune in large numbers, I'd probably be gone by the end of first sweeps. The sad truth is that everything that I'd want to do is expensive, and networks hate spending money unless there are guarantees of absolute success. Most reality shows are made because they are cheap to produce, so it doesn't matter the shares since the network makes money even if the only viewer is actually asleep. Besides the only channel that would try my strategies would have been UPN during one of their many makeovers, and let's face it, I'd alienate the previous audience in the first night of new programming.

Meh if I ran a TV channel I'd cancel all of the game shows, I despise the very idea of them.

TV on Demand, that is true 21st century progress.  Never being at the mercy of sports events
ever again, one of my fondest wishes as a child.  Because skipping 2-3 weeks of something for
bloody cricket or athletics back in the 80s, still annoys me now.

Truly I bear grudges for life, someone has to I guess.

That's the problem of running a network in any country even the state owned ones. Your objective will always be to get the highest ratings possible along with an obligations placed on the network by regulation or sponsors. Thus you have situations like the famous Heidi game because the NBC Home Office insisted that  the overtime Jets-Raiders game had to be bumped for Heidi because commercial revenue rode on Heidi back in 1968. Thus, the head office pulled the telecast away as the Raiders won the game with two touchdowns in the last minute.

The phone lines to NBC lit up like World War III, and the rest is history. Rules were changed ever since on showing NFL games.
