What future Battletech products do you await the most?
« on: 12 August 2012, 15:23:30 »
With all the talk about the future of Battletech and the Dark Age, let us discuss what future products do you await and look forward to the most?

For my self, my picks would be:

- Seeing the Objective series finished, especially Objectives: Clans. We can make some assumptions about the production in the periphery and the former FWL, but with the relocation of two Clans we know next to nothing of which old designs they have put into production.

- More XTRO:Primitives. I am studying the early development of the battlemech, and the lack of info on several early designs means that there are annoying holes in the knowledge-base. I would especially like to see early Orion, early Griffin and early Archer.

- RS3067unabridged. Another hole record-sheet availability that needs to be filled ASAP.

- Handbook: House Kurita. I do not like being lacking in info about a major faction, especially one that can easily be labeled as near-automatic antagonist. I want to have the possibility to give it a fair evaluation.

- Historical: Liberation of Terra, Vol 2: To be honest, I am more interested in the aftermath, like why the dismissal of Kerensky and the Exodus happened, than in the Liberation itself.

- ISP 3: Interstellar Expeditions (or whatever the name will be): A lot of mysteries to get into. What game was IE playing during the Jihad? Who are the Green Ghosts? What is hiding out there in the periphery?

- 3150 Whatever: It is time for CGL to show off their vision of the future.

So, what products are you waiting for?

FM 3150.
A 3150 official PDF map that can actually be viewed at varying zoom levels.
Objectives 3150, which is pretty much where the Objectives series should have been set up in the first place (that or 3095). I realize this product will never, ever happen.
The rest is pretty much stuff I find that is just killing more time until we can finally move past the era that has lingered far too long.

Interstellar Operations Volumes 1 & 2

Did I miss an announcement (very likely) that this is going to be 2 volumes now?

Anyhow, my list before I spotted that was going to be Interstellar Ops and Housebook Kurita.

Not officially declared that it is going to be two volumes...I am just hedging my bets in anticipation
in case it *IS* split..because...Randall randalled it.

The second half of the Liberation of Terra arc is pretty interesting to consider, as is Interstellar Expeditions; but the stuff I'd most look forward to would be the 3150 material.

ComStar book will be probably never published. I mean, it's a quarter of century overdue ...  ;)

Interstellar Players 3: Interstellar Expeditions should be published this year. Some parts of this book should mention Periphery affairs.

So it has been published but if I tell you the title it hasn't been published?
I'm positive it hasn't been through layout and the name will be released when Herb deems it worthy. Or just releases while gleefully cackling and stroking Oscar.
Then Oscar will cackle as well.

I hate to break it to you Kit, but Oscar isn't real, he is imaginary just like that XTRO.  ;)

He's not imaginary, he's ORANGE!

Now I'm hoping there's this secret cache of XTRO transcripts manuscripts hidden in a suitcase somewhere.

XTRO Succession Wars for me

And me as well.  Anything dealing with the Succession Wars would be great.

So it has been published but if I tell you the title it hasn't been published?
I'm positive it hasn't been through layout and the name will be released when Herb deems it worthy. Or just releases while gleefully cackling and stroking Oscar.
Then Oscar will cackle as well.
I was getting at the fact that if you finished writing it last year it should be published by now, 6+ months is a long time for CGL to sit on it

That's not an uncommon time for post-writing production work in this industry.

Considering it's a five-dollar PDF, and compare that to the things like War of Reaving, updated Tactical Operations, WoR supplemental, Liberation of Terra, TRO Prototypes, FM SLDF, and then everything big that's about to come out, I'd say an XTRO can sit on the back burner a while.  No offense to Kit, and I'm sure he would agree with me, but Catalyst has to focus on the bottom line - not doing things "in order."  And if big product is there, big product takes priority.

That said, I personally can't wait to see what it is.  Between his love of Quinn and the Canopians (headlining later this year with Jem and the Holograms) I'm in for a wild ride, I imagine.

See all I'm hearing out of this is "There will be a future product for you to throw money at. Don't worry, we'll give you plenty of chances to sacrafice your wallet happily."
Give me the ceremonial knife!
Even though they may be sitting on a few products instead of immediately releasing, don't know why nor do I care, that just means I'll have something to drool over later.  :)

TRO 3200 :P

Seriously though, it's usually just whatever CGL is putting out next. They've been pumping out stellar stuff. If I had tochoose one, it's IO. All the rules must be mine!

Yeah that's why it was on my main list. Heck if I'm going to sit on my fantasy throne holding worlds in the palm of my hands like Dr Doom I want a rulebook to assist me!
Besides its a good backup plan if I don't agree with certain things in the Universe, just carve out my own  O0

Objectives: Clans near term
TRO:3150 long term. (By whatever name it goes by. A part of me hope it gets named TRO:3125, just for some nice recursion.) I want my Avalanches and Wendigos and Cizins...

What, no Cave Lion?

I have a baseless, completely out of left field guess for what Kit's XTRO is. If I'm right it'll bump Objectives: The Clans off the top of my list.  ::)

The Cave Lion looks to be yet another 75 ton 5/8 mech with principally energy based guns. It's...well, kinda boring by this point. Wont be put off by it showing up, but those others peak my interest more.
