Title: 3D Printed legs for a Union dropship?
Post by: Elbows on 26 September 2015, 14:15:13
So, like many folks here, I recently picked up a 10.5" Hamster ball to make into a Union class dropship.  Was wondering if anyone had produced 3D printable legs/weapons or anything for them?  Seems like it'd be a good little market.  I'm looking at some toys at the moment, but if someone made a "Union" conversion kit from Shapeways I'd be interested.

Some of the Bionicle LEGO seems a good fit.

Yeah, I'm bidding on a Star Wars AT TE or whatever (broken, but has five legs!) and my next solution would be to hit up the local toy store for legos/bionicle/etc.  I just figured it's a decent idea, so I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing out.

It'd be slick to have a 3D pack of legs, shielding (not for the full hamster ball, but for the leg arms), maybe some thrusters, PPCs, antenna etc.  A kind of one-stop kit.  Buy your hamster ball and pick up the 3D printed kit of accessories...slap some plasticard on the ship and go for it.

That's the male AT TE. ;)

For thrusters use pop bottle caps.

A hamster ball conversion kit is actually a pretty cool idea.

For thrusters use pop bottle caps.
Those are a good and cheap method.  If you're looking to spend money on detailed thrusters, there are a LOT of options in the model kit custom detail market.  Gundam has a ton.

Back in 2012, I got a set of the Overlord DS landing gear bits for a guy at Gen Con, for $6.00.  Of course, I'd been put in contact with Mr. Fox, and got them through him.   O0  My point is, even though they're not a Scrapyard item, you could always contact IWM and ask for the Union landing gear bits.  Can't hurt to ask, right?   ;)  Best of Luck!

I picked up my AT TE...and unfortunately it has two huge legs...and three of the small legs (and they're all rather gigantic - much larger than I expected).  So I may be making the world's first tripod Union class... ^-^

Hope to disassemble the toy and use more parts for bits.

Any idea of which Bionicle legs?  I went to the Lego site to try ordering them alone and could not find them.
