Any chance of Quadvees or Tripods?
« on: 23 April 2014, 05:40:15 »
As the title says, any chance we'll see the Quadvees and tripods released by IWM, perhaps as another Kickstarter?

There's always a chance. I mean, we got things like the Hyena salvage 'mech. Quadvees might be a tough sell. They're ugly, exclusive to one faction, and not pure 'Mechs. The tripods might not be very efficient, but at least they look fairly cool (aside from having three legs), and would be impressive minis on the table.

I'd get a tripod... be cool if it had the various arms sculpted for the configurations :)

I'll look to getting my hands on at least one good thing.  Ares and Poseidon have same general parts legs wise, so it upper torso and arms need be changed little bit.   Still the thing going be expensive, given how much the Omega retailed for.

Quadvee, i don't think will be so bad.  Their smaller, i hope IWM is able make the models flexible enough to be either position it in Quad mode or Tank mode.  Hell's Horses deployed these things more due to construction limitations for a while losing their heavy-to-small Mech production capacities for couple years.   QuadVee should be more common.

I'd be all over any tripods released. I'm slowly gathering plastic ones for usage until metal ones come out(they're not TOO big, with a Poseidon being exactly 150% taller than a plastic Atlas) since I don't want to wait that long, but I'll certainly switch to metal when they become available.

I have no use for either but that would not stop me from getting them, I would buy some of both and then end up making a unit around them.

Oh, the tripods... yeah, that'll be about half a dozen of those when they release. One of each flavor, and one more to be modded with artillery...  :P

Well, deal with the tripods, i hope CGL comes out with non-SuperHeavy BattleMech Tripods  in the future.  I was sad they didn't have a Tripod for the Star League era.  Construction rules show that non-superheavy tripods have existed during the Star League era.   No one really built them. I'd like see couple... ;)

TRO:3075 has the Kiso in the Draconis section. Not the most attractive little monster, but it's a good example of what a tripod IndustrialMech on average would look like.

I don't think you will. I think you will learn how to use magnets and just do arms for all of the versions and mix and match all you want.
(I don't think your should, back, or knees will survive carrying 6 of them in your mini case.) ;)

I could see the tripods coming out as con thing like the Omega.

The quadvees seems less likely.  They're just so ugly.

if anything the Ares and Poseidon have the same torso as well, it is just the arms that are different.

the Tri Pods are begging to be sold as a kit with modular arms. and sockets made for magnets.

My wife is a huge fan of Projared... she wants a tripod so she can paint it as "Nuptup"

Fine, five of them. One to do with all the omni arms, and four to do as each of the original schemes from MWDA.  ;D

Super Heavy Tripods probably will see a limited release, only from the IWM site and arms would be a different order entirely. It honestly would be the best way to put them out. Regualr sized ones would probably see a more normal release. As for Quadvee's I kind of doubt we might see a release of them unless TPTB get more than one faction into using them. I like the concept myself but there just isn't enough call for them.
I don't set an example for others. I make examples of them.

If you can sell an Omega, you can sell a tripod, of that I have no doubt.

Moreso, given that the Tripods already have a much longer service life than the Omega did*, so people that are sticklers for canon are going to be far more amenable to seeing them in their games.

*barring Paul the Minotaur, of course.

Sure, but I'm not sure there is any way for the fans to know if the Omega sold well. (I got one, but that proves nothing.)

I think there are decent odds that we'll see at least one tripod, but it's pure speculation on my part.

I'm rather liking the modular arms idea. We really only need one Tripod, since a decent set of arms would allow us to construct every single published Tripod to date. Perhaps include the arms for the Poseidon and Zeus by default(you really only need 3 arms for that since they share the left), and put the rest up in the Omni Parts section.

Makes sense to me. Hades and Poseidon also share the big claw arm, as an alternative to using Zeus (which left only Hera out of the WK four as being unique in its construction- which is too bad, because that's the one I liked best!)

I have a second one of Zeus, I'd always hoped to rebuild it with parts from other models into what I always thought the superheavy tripods should have been all along- artillery platforms. But it never did happen, so it's been sitting in my MW bin for years now instead. Pity- one of these days, maybe.

Forgeworld sells resin at extremely high prices, but one of the things they do for the 40k Dreadnoughts is only sell the feet/torso/torso accessories as a kit and force you to buy the load out via arms.  I wouldn't mind, if it meant keeping costs down initially, to do something similar where you buy the Ares/Poseidon body/legs and then buy the arms you want when you are ordering.  Would mean it's not retail friendly but....

Given that the Areseidon is probably going to be an online exclusive, that's not a bad idea.

@Weirdo: I suspect that SteelWarrior was replying to klarg1 about the Omega.

I'm hopeful that both the Quadvees and the tripods will see the light of day. Although the Quadvees are only used by one faction, I hope that won't prevent them from being made; they are hardly unique in being, well, unique to one faction. There are lots of other examples of IWM miniatures made like that.

When you consider the number of designs that have minis that 1. only belong to one faction and 2. only appeared in a pdf only TRO, there is no reason to believe that quadvees won't get a mini as well.

Trying to see about Speck or I posting up some in-progress shots of various minis being sculpted, but I've got this for the moment.
Sculpted by Alex I. (Sentinel373), based on the mesh/model created by Anthony Scroggins (Shimmering Sword) used on the covers of FM 3145 and TRO:3145.
