Avatars not showing

I noticed this evening that the SL logo I use as an avatar is not showing as a box with an 'x'. I tried changing the avatar but same thing occurred (an x).

I'm seeing that as well for some time now.  Seems most of the folks who used faction logos for the avatar have had them go missing.

I see only those red [X] things when i looked at faction avatar list, had to create this Nova Cat avatar because of that.
Using Chrome, uncertain if that has any effect.
