Webcomics thread, the gritty reboot
« on: 20 February 2011, 05:39:03 »
Since the abnominable Roosterboy already started the regular webcomic thread, I guess it's time to give the webcomic thread a new start as well.
Butch R. Mann rides again, homicidal maniacs of the world rejoice!
At Vexxar the Schlumpy arc is over and the main cast is back with it's shenanigans
At Sluggy Freelance, Dr. Schlock is marching straight towards His Masterness path, can Torg and his allies stop him?

Challenges of Zona is fantasy adventure of the ordinary man from San Fernandino who somehow ends up to fantasy world infested with monsters. He didn't fall there through rabbit hole though...

I'll add more when I'm back on my personal computer and its bookmarks.
You know what they say, don't you? About how us MechWarriors are the modern knights errant, how warfare has become civilized now that we have to abide by conventions and rules of war. Don't believe it.

All pieces are on the table including the monsters. Some players are in different roles though so we'll se if Torg can clear the table before the endgame.

I'm afraid to try and work out just how many webcomics i check regularly  :D

one I did come across recently that's bad/wrong/fun to read is one called "Weapon Brown"

yes, linking to it would be (I believe) against forum rules.  However, if you were to do a google search should bring up the first page as the first link  ;)

*disclaimer* NSFW etc etc, yada yada yada  :P

Questionable Content
XKCD
VGCats
Dr. McNinja
Lackadaisycats
Gone With the Blastwave

I wish VGCats and Lackadaisycats would update more often though.  Once a month is very slow (GWTB is at like two a year, so I don't notice as much).

Kansas City players, or people who are just passing through the area, come join us at the Geekery just off Shawnee Mission Parkway for BattleTech!  Current days are Tuesdays in the afternoon and evening.  I can't make every single week, but odds are pretty good that somebody will be there.

You better belive it. Sadly many of the character references in it are lost to me as I don't know other comics that well.

Gone With the Blastwave (GWTB is at like two a year, so I don't notice as much).

I really enjoyed this webcomic; the writer/artist's talent was/is evident.  Sadly, when he essentially put the comic in hiatus, I opted to no longer follow it.

I went through the archives of Gunnerkrigg Court yesterday and I have to say that they have some of the strangest dorms ever imagined at that 'school'.

I wonder what the relationship is between The Court/Gillitie Wood and the Outside World.  It looks like part of each, the entrance if you will, exists in the real world, while the rest is in its own 'pocket universe' which would allow them to huge without impacting real world geography or showing up on a map.  If The Court existed completely in the real world, instead of wondering how big it is, Annie and Kat could just look at it on Google Maps.  The size also reveals that The Court is far, far more than a school, or even a university.  I believe there is some malevolent operation behind The Court, but I wouldn't trust Coyote either.

And what the hell is Coyote doing in England, anyway?  Where are all of the other deities, God in particular, when Coyote is screwing around and using the Moon as a play toy?  Why can one deity, an obscure one like Coyote, manifest with such power in The Wood while other deities remain absent?

Coyote's there for the same reason aliens always land in the US first. It's where the author lives.  ;)

This week, I started reading a relatively recently introed webcomic...it's called "Next Town Over", and has some really nice artwork, and the story for the 21 pages released so far has been excellent...

Reminds me quite a bit of Deadlands, as it has combined the Old West with some steampunk tech, and what appears to be magic and the undead...

I'm going to have to start paying attention to this thread.  I dunno, shocking as it sounds, I've rarely if ever got into web comics. :-[

Some comics I haven't seen mentioned:

Dead Winter - best described as a charming/cutesy zombie comic (great art)
The Abominable Charles Christopher - combination of talking forest creatures and an abominable Charles Christopher (stunning art)
Bad Machinery/Scary Go Round - mystery solving kids (currently updated)/mystery solving adults (completed), both in "Tackleford, England"
Hark! A Vagrant - time to learn you some history...  sort of??
Cat Rackham - almost never updated, but has a nice collection of short comics
Axe Cop - superbly drawn comic fueled by the madness that is a 6 year old's imagination
Gunshow - Not even sure what this one is about.  It's pretty crazy though.

I also like Gunnerkrigg Court, Dr. McNinja, Girl Genius, and Manly Guys Doing Manly Things.  I read Girls With Slingshots, too, although I don't feel like it's on the same level of awesome as the aforementioned comics. YMMV!
(The above writing is entirely my opinion based upon my own incomplete knowledge of life, the universe, and everything beyond it and should be taken as such although I don't want to tell you what to do, because that's your right and your freedom to choose your own opinions and ablah blah blah legalese etc etc)
