Reunification War unit composition
« on: 14 November 2017, 20:29:33 »
We know from fluff that the SLDF favored formations of the same mech at least to the company level and even some fluff says entire battalions would be the same mech to ease logistical needs and repair.  It was generally in the independent regiments where the buddy system prevailed and you saw a hodgepodge of mechs.

Did the periphery formations of the reunification war as well as the star league era leading up to the periphery uprising do the same?

Would it be expected to see a company of 12 Talos mechs in the early Reunification war?  Or would the periphery be forced to make use of use what was available?

A bit of both depending upon their ability to produce 'Mechs/acquire 'Mechs.  Where the OA forces were a hodgepog of whatever they could acquire/were gifted by House Davion (since they had no capability of manufacturing their own), both the TC and the RMR produced their own homegrown designs and were able to field at least companies of the same design.

Once the periphery was suppressed, their military forces were disbanded for much of the SL era.  Once they were given permission to rebuild a limited (official) military, we go back to the reunification era status where their military forces depended heavily upon their ability to manufacture/acquire 'Mechs.  It should be noted that a lot of the 'Mechs they acquired in secret during the military buildup came from Amaris who acquired them from numerous different sources and as a result got a mixed bag of 'Mechs.

The Toro entry in TR3075 indicates the TC deployed entire battalions of the Toro.  But I think that was the exception- most units were probably a mix of mechs.

Talos are versatile enough that the TC probably also fielded them en masse. After all, the whole point of designing and manufacturing them was to standardise their trooper design.
