Fan Articles / Re: Mech of the Week: HEL Helios

What if we thought about it as a replacement for the Vindicator?

The gauss hits as hard (really harder) than the PPC and LRM-5 combo, and the two ER meds and two SRM-6 far outgun the medium laser and small laser.

Same overall armor, but the Compact’s design has more internals.

Where the Confederstion would assign the Vondicator, the Compact assigns a Helios.

Is it any better now?

Silly me, I forgot to say that your painting is great, and leagues ahead of my own.

It definitely works.  You can use the Warhammer as an anchor, with the Executioner bouncing between that and a striker.  The Timber Wolf, Gargoyle, and Stormcrow run around causing problems as they do.

I've already given my points on the Vapor Eagle, and think its a prime choice, especially if the unit won't go Nova.

Just need another Enyo to fill out your pseudo Vehicle Nova.  Are you planning on going full Nova with 10 Vehicles and 5 Elemental Squads, or keeping this Star as is?

I have a second enyo because they come in two packs, but I'm annoyingly missing one of the tracks. I similarly have an Anhur but I should have two. I actually found the missing minis/bits not long ago but then I lost them again lol. But yeah, the goal is a vee/elemental Nova, although in actual games I rarely run canon unit sizes/formations due to BV limitations.

"Thank you, Sergeant."  Liz collected her handbag from the scanner.  "but there's a problem.  Armies run on budgets, and the enemy isn't always courteous enough to be where your assault 'mech happens to be-and the assault class is, with one exception (and who wants chargers?) expensive and slow.  It demands a lot in transport and upkeep, and it has a much narrower range of rapid deployment options than, say, the lance of Mediums you could have bought instead...and the mediums give a broader coverage, can be repaired more quickly from serious damage, and can be replaced more readily with less tac-time at the factory, because the work can move faster."

Clan Heavy Omnis must have just utterly shocked IS folks when they first appeared. As fast as the classic Griffin/Wolverine/Shadow Hawk trio, well armored (the Hellbringer notwithstanding), and packing the firepower of Assaults in the hands of warriors whose baseline competence was that of an Inner Sphere veteran-rated unit (3/4 standard Clan Gunnery/Piloting).

Obviously Liz can't manufacture Clantech even if she wanted to currently, but a force of Pumas, Black Lanners, Ryokens and Mad Cats must be something close to Liz's dreams - mobile in all the right ways, configurable on the fly, well protected and heavily gunned.

I think I'm actually leaning towards the Warhammer and Stormcrow (probably run the C variant) in the heavier star as a Heavy Striker Star, then the Vapor Eagle for the lighter star as a Striker star. What's your opinion on that?

Because Solaris jocks love to mess with everything. One day, you might live the dream and deliver a tsm-boosted kick to knock someone's block off because they stopped next partial cover.

Step 1: Run and push the BIG RED BUTTON
Step 2: Never stop running and firing
Step 3: in the event of side torso loss, walk and keep firing

Ive put together another list and im now wondering

Awesomes, Grass, Cats, Vindis and Ravens
Or
2 Longbow 8C (1/4), 2 Grass, 2 Hunchs, 2 Ravens and i couldnt find 2 more mechs to fill up the missing 2 slots with low BV but Mongooses .. might aswell put Locusts there (Hunch for Bodyguard, Raven for LRM Support)

Which one do u guys think is (apart from fluff) the better choice?

Im kinda worried about the LB setup cause it feels like its missing capability to punch holes apart from big LRM swarms.

Ill keep u updated !
