Hmm. Nasty idea. Take a standard Marauder-3R. Drop the engine some and add jump jets for 3/5/3 movement. Drop a heat sink and make the rest doubles. Drop all weapons. Add a binary laser cannon in each arm and an AC/10 where the AC/5 used to be with two tons of ammo in the LT with 3 of the DHS’s.

While at work today, an idea for a swayback variant popped into my imagination.  Imagine my surprise that when I log in, I find that Notsonoble has beat me to it with that awesome Discoback!   Well done!

My idea starts with the Hunchback 4G.  First I exchange the thirteen single heatsinks for thirteen doubles.  Next the AC/20 and ammo are removed.  Finally two large pulse lasers and four jump jets are added for the improved to hit modifier and increased mobility.

The SHD-2K, VND-1R, and BLR-1G can handle an ERPPC even with single heat sinks.

The PXH-1 would benefit from swapping ML and MG for a pair of MPL.

Two LPL and JJ is a very nice build!  :thumbsup:

The Shadow Hawk, Battle Master, and Vindicator could do so much MORE with DHS, though...  ^-^

Hmm. You could make a full intro tech version; just drop the AC/20 and ammo for two Large lasers, 4 more heat sinks and four jump jets.

Oh definitely but I thought the question was what can be improved with a simple weapons swap on the cheap without opening the reactor.

The mods took care of that problem by moving this to the appropriate design forum.

Deuces: Colt has allowed DHS as long as they accompany a weapons upgrade.  Hence my list of LL to ERLL (and DHS) upgrade candidates...

In that case, I always thought the GRF-1S, my favorite medium of its era, has a lot of room for improvement.

upgrade all lasers to pulse versions, trading 16 HS or 11 DHS, use the extra ton for armor.

The fun part is, if you put the large lasers in opposite side torsos and the medium lasers in the CT, you could use the Hunchback IIC mini as this design and it would look right.

I promise that this is my last submission to this thread.  Here is an idea I had this morning for a possible modification of the JagerMech.  Remove and replace the single heatsinks with doubles.  Remove both AC/5s and ammo and one AC/2.  Mount a gauss rifle with two tons of ammo.  Next add a PPC. There should be plenty of those laying around from other refits.

Which is why I included it . . . give a Shadow Hawk a NARC beacon and 2 more JJ, its a pretty tough spotter that would be a force multiplier (as long as they could get ammo) for a merc company with a lot of Archer, Catapult, Dervish or other LRM heavy designs.  I always hated we never got more NARC for the era, and it makes sense for it to be 1-offs for merc forces.

Bear with me: NARCicada.  :thumbsup: Say, go with the version with the PPC and MGs, replace the guns with a Large Laser and a Narc with a ton of pods. Or if you want more pods, go with a quad of MLs and 2 tons of pods. I figure a 7/11 NARCer with a nasty sting would be a very nice spotter.

Could work. take the 2nd variant I tossed out, would dropping 2 of 4 MLs be enough room for the MASC, or would I have to drop the extra ton of pods.. Will have to see. Is a nice config though.

Hmm...take the the “Avenging Angel” model Vindicator, drop 5 heat sinks and make the rest doubles, swap the PPC for an ER version.

Use the five free tons to all but maximize your armor.

Edit: this also works for the St. Ives version. Drop all extra heat sinks, make rest doubles. Replace the large laser with an ER version, and add the last half ton as armor to the legs.

Yeah, that always mystified me... The one version of the Vindicator that actually needed DHS never got them...

Here’s another: take the Shadow Hawk-2D. Drop the extra heat sinks and make the base 10 doubles. Replace the AC/5 and ammo with a PPC. Add 5 tons of armor and two jump jets.

When ferro and CASE become available, drop a ton of armor and make it ferro. Add CASE to each side torso (and make sure ammo is appropriately placed).

Simple Griffin-1N mod: drop the two spare heat sinks and make rest doubles. Switch out LRM-10 for LRM-15.

And here’s an interesting Quickdraw: drop the three spare heat sinks, make base 10 doubles. Add two tons of armor and switch the LRM-10, its ammo and the last leftover ton for a PPC (or a large laser and two more tons of armor).

Grasshopper-remove 5 heat sinks, switch to doubles, upgrade CT Large Laser to ER Large, and add another ER Large to the right torso.

Awesome-8T upgrade all PPCs to ER, remove 8 heat sinks, upgrade to doubles, add in 4 medium pulse or 8 medium lasers if you fit them

Awesome with the dual Large Lasers and LRM 15s
Upgrade both Large Lasers to ER, remove 4 heat sinks, switch to doubles, add in Artemie and two more tons of LRM-15 ammo.

Usually don’t do this, but take a Marauder II, drop 12 heat sinks, make remaining 17 doubles. Switch LL for another PPC. Add 10 more medium lasers; 1 more in each arm and in the CT and Head, and three in each side torso (12 total).
