I had recently done an intro game with one of my clix buddies.  He had some background with the Dark Age clix game but not classic BT.

I gave him a 5V Spider with a 3/4 pilot and a 9SE Thunderbolt, and I had a CRB-20 Crab and the 2H Shadowhawk.  I'd hoped the ace pilot and the T-Bolt's pulse laser would give an edge in succession war's general inaccuracy, the spider was his request.  That particular Thunderbolt is comically oversinked, though.

It ended up being a close matchup.  He did a good job of maneuvering the spider and getting back shots, though I still get lucky large laser hits and eventually legging it.  The Shadowhawk ended up losing both arms, and by the time the spider gets disabled, the SHD has a busted hip and the knee and foot of the other leg.  A near immobile SHD and a near immobile SDR trade blows at medium range until the spider actually gets cored out.  Meanwhile a worn down Thunderbolt gets the crab cornered, the crab lost its left arm, gets a lucky head hit that finishes the T-bolt.

He told me he had fun and would do another game or two.

May I ask where you guys usually play, these days? My wife and I are pondering extremely vague plans about moving to Virginia in the next few years, possibly the Richmond area(so very specific, I know :) ), and was wondering where the nearest Battletech group would be.

Some of the guys here play down that way sometimes, but I'm not sure where.  I'm sure they'll be able to help you out!

Richmond games are largely held bi-weekly on Saturdays at Battlegrounds in Midlothian. The various scheduling is done on facebook.  LOTB Richmond is the group name.

I'm in C'ville and looked at the store page a few times, have never seen anything about y'all.   :-\

I've been playing at Huzzah Hobbies on Ashburn, but I'm moving about an hour away to WV.  Some of my coworkers commute to the Herndon area from Richmond and it's a bit of a drive -- you're either on I-95/I-66 and fighting traffic or you taking rural routes with stoplights and lower speed limits.

RIP Dan Schulz, 09 November 2009.  May the Albatross ever fly high.

Hit me up for BattleTech in the WV Panhandle!

I don't think we post anything to the store page.  it is all word of mouth from the local circuit which amounts to around 6 people on most weekends.  I haven't been out to a game in ages because of COVID and other health issues.

I get it.  Was supposed to go to my first game w. this group in March 2020. Well, we know how that turned out.  :'(

I'll keep an eye on the group FB page.  Hope to meet you at one or the other sometime.

There's like 3-4 FB groups, of varying activity and not too much organization.  There is a discord for the Huzzah Hobbies group that's somewhat active.  This thread for Virginia and once upon a time (pre-covid) there is a thread for the Maryland crowd.

I was at HH this weekend and they still had some lance packs available. I talked with one of the guys there briefly and he said that their battle in November(?) was "well attended" with 6 - 9 people. I am a non-Facebooker so I do not get updates and am on Discord but not on theirs, mainly the BattleTech unofficial Discord. If there were another time besides Mondays at Huzzah I think we could pull in more people.

Side note, the guy I was talking to said that the Battletech stuff is selling very quickly and they are on their last restocks of that order.

Alrighty.  After many months of having to put up with a lot of BS, my weekends are finally freed up.

I was wanting to do a Dark Age game either sometime later this month or maybe early next month; I really wanna try out some of the new mechs from the Rec. Guides.

I also have an Operation Bulldog or Operation Serpent campaign I'm trying to build.

Anyways, I can't wait to start gaming with everyone once again.  I've got some new goodies to show off as I imagine everyone else does as well.

The Pentagon just went to HPCON CHARLIE, and there's one CONUS base that just went to DELTA (I expect more in the coming weeks).  I don't think face to face gaming is going to be an option for me for a while yet...  :-\

FPCON, HPCON, BAVO, DELTA, ZULU, lol. It was always so hard to keep up with what was going on. I used to like next to Charleston AFB and it was like it changed every other day.

Case De Space Cat is available until mid-late March. I can now field a 4x4 hexed map with 3D city, streets, hills, and fancy new trees.
We're vaxed and boosted so I'm fairly comfortable with folks coming over.

My weekends are mine again and able to come up for these. Heck, now that I have my KS Cataphract I could even supply the Kingston's Legionaires Command Lance (Cataphract, Guillotine, Emperor, Blackjack-O) for the Op Serpent Campaign [Because I have no idea what I'm doing and would love to have some help learning!]

What's a good weekend for you?  Also, did you wanna play Classic BT rules or Alpha Strike and how many points?

I'm pretty much open every weekend right now.  Also open to learning both systems, whatever you and the group prefer.

Guess I have some Capellan Jungle Camo mechs to paint! I just finished my Red Hunter SOG (plus Tyrell) from AS:CE and just over halfway done w. the original Gray Death Legion company (remaining are primed, need paint).

FWIW I also have the full Pfizer 5G coverage plan  ;)

Y'all line it up and I'll help knock them down.  I'm now on my own way out of the area for a overseas tour so I'd like to get a game in before I head out the door for three years.  Nearly anything before March will work for me minus a day or so here and there.

Well then how's about you pick a weekend so we can slag some mechs.  Maybe a Big MAC vs 5th Syrtis Fussiiers?

I hear there's going to be 10" of snow this weekend, so it's right out.  :-\

As far as vaccines, I'm also boosted, and happy to have heard Moderna is working on a combined COVID/Flu vaccine for next year.

Also, if you're over 50, GET YOUR SHINGLES SHOTS!  They suck, but they suck orders of magnitude less than actual shingles.  The second shot cost me a night of sleep and two days of feeling like crap, but it was totally worth it.  Actual shingles were a couple of weeks of agony, even with narcotics to take the edge off, and didn't even make me immune to reinfection.  xp

I'm supposed to get my booster tomorrow.

I'm free Saturdays and Wednesdays, I work on Sunday.

The cold weather's interrupted my mech painting, too cold and wet to prime them.  I've been painting some of the "Deep Cut" Heroclix, which are paint-able pre-primed figures, got a bunch of them for the holiday. They've turned out alright so far.

As with all things at the moment: TBD.  Sorry, but my life is even more unpredictable than normal right now.  I might have to start working weekends, and the news should tell you why...
