Best use x Fa Shih BA
« on: 07 August 2013, 02:16:31 »
Well like the title said I'm going to use some of them in a scenario.
I'm asking you now what is the best use of this BA in the field.
How to use at the best his capacity of minelayer during a battle?
I used them IIRC  time ago,but I'm not convinced enough.
I think their ability to lay mines can be easily evaded.
What is your experience?
It makes sense to use them in a scenario?

Mines are best used to channel enemy forces, not destroy them.

Use the mines to deter the enemy from going a certain way, or to deny certain hexes to them.

So you must reach a certain hex as soon as possible before your opponent does with a fast  BA trasporter.

Flanks, use the mines to deter certain movement on the flanks.

Since presumably you're playing a Capellan force, trying attaching those Fa Shihs to Regulators. They'll get the suits where they need to go to mine those critical hexes, and your opponent will likely be too busy dealing with a bad bout of gauss-to-the-face to deal with the Fa Shihs until after they've already gotten the job done.

Using their mine dispensers, a single squad of Fa Shih can make a whole clump of woods in a strategic location significantly less desirable to the enemy. Getting there first with a squad of Fa Shih, mining half the hexes and then hanging there to snipe at anyone who tries to brave them basically prevents the enemy from ever using that little clump of forest against you.  For the cost of a single battle armor squad, it's a really good deal!

Getting them to where you want them is basically the key.  Their magnetic clamps mean that you don't have to tote them around on omni mechs and you don't have to take a dedicated troop carrying tank design to get them where you want to be.  There is also a version that has light tag so you also get some double duty out of them if you have access to Arrow IV or decide you want to pack on some SG LRMs.

I would have thought a Savannah Master was the cheapest and fastest way to get a Fa Shih where it needs to be.

Thats how Ive done it in the past.

I use exactly the same combo, though instead of Mine disperser i use the Plasma support Fa Shih version.  Let's see them in action next week in Bordeaux... ;)
