Can't find mech
« on: 02 October 2018, 16:37:30 »
I have been scouring my books and Sarna but can't find the mech I want.

From what I remember it was a Clan mech, thought Hell's Horses.  It only had two weapons which were AC10's or maybe Ultra AC10's.  I thought it was a medium.  I didn't think it had jump jets.  The fluff said something about being a convoy escort for supplies.  It was a simple clan mech with nothing special.

Please if someone can help me I would be a happy man.

You might be thinking of the thresher. It is a CHH/CDS collaboration with a UAC/10 and ERLL

No it had two AC's.  In the picture they had multiple barrels like a RAC, but they were not RAC's.  It looked all most like the Cygnus.  It was not an assault and am pretty sure it only had the AC's as weapons.

Was it one of the Rifleman versions?

The Predator? It's got two LB10X on it. From the Fire Mandrill's though.

Thank you so much but no it was not one of those two.  It had the AC's in the arms with no hand actuators.

In the fluff it said something about protecting supply convoys.

You sure it was a Clan 'Mech? They're not exactly the kind of folks to assign 'Mechs to protect supply convoys.

Dual AC/10s of any class don't leave many choices though. Highly doubt it was a medium, even a Clanner.
The lightest dual LB-10X AC carrier i know is the Blackjack Omni C config, an Inner Sphere design, massing 50 tons. All others with dual AC/10-class weapons are heavies or assaults.

Some 'Mechs (or variants) that sport twin AC/10s of LB-X or Ultra types, one per arm (no comment on arm actuators):
Rifleman
Dragoon
Hammerhands
Bandersnatch
Deimos
Emperor
Nightstar
Sagittaire
Devastator
Annihilator
Jupiter

There are more but that's a quick list.

I know it is unusual, that is why I wanted to find it again.  It even mentioned in the fluff how it was un-clan like to build a mech for escorting supply.

I think the picture had it walking from left to right.

Such a design is far more likely to be a heavy or assault than a medium

Kraken 4 carries twin arm UAC/20s and is said to be used for "defensive duties"

Then there's the Turkina which has a lot of twin-weapon configs including ACs, and the Hunchback IIC which is a medium with twin ACs (and how!) but not arm-mounted

Thank you but it was AC10's or Ultra AC10's.  They were arm mounted with no hand actuators.

I remember it was not built too heavy and I don't think any advanced equipment.

It was such a weird mech to me it stuck out.  I am making scenario where periphery bandits are attacking for supplies on a clan world just so I can use this mech and can't find it anywhere.  I swear I am not going crazy and it exists.

Do remember the Clans do not use standard AC/10s, only LB-10Xs and UAC/10s.

You sure you didn't come across some fan design or fan TRO? I made the short list i did with Megamek Lab (by searching official 'Mechs with 2x AC/10 or LB-10X or UAC/10 of either tech base), leaving out 'Mechs with hand actuators for certain, and frankly none of the 'Mechs in it correspond to what you describe as far as i can recall.

Do you remember the era of the 'Mech? Just in general, like Clan Invasion or the Jihad or the Dark Age.

There's Corvis, which is kind of odd. UAC10 and 2 MPL. 40 tons, no XL engine, but it has jump jets. No FF armor, but it does have Endo Steel.

The fluff states "its lack of maneuverability relative to other Mechs in its weight class relegated the Corvis to defensive duty in built-up Terrain, or as support for infantry and armor forces."

It also states "and functions as a "sentry Mech" near low-priority targets, allowing heavier units to be deployed elsewhere. The Corvis is also used as an escort for infantry and slow-moving vehicular units."

Sure, it doesn't have the two AC10s, but it certainly seems to fit the fluff.

Any chance the ACs could be gauss rifles?  The Sun Cobra is a non-jumping, no-handed, clan medium with only a gauss rifle in each arm.

Sarna's fluff doesn't mention anything about protecting convoys though.  It says it's a slow, long range, fire support raider?

I agree with Maelwys that it sounds like you're trying to describe the Corvis. While it doesn't have two autocannons, it does have two barrels on one arm and the rest of the description fits.

Other than the Double AC10's, I thought for sure he was describing the Corvis.

Maybe the Canis?

IS Mechs that might fit could be the Galahad & Legacy?

Bandersnatch has twin LB10X's in the arms.

Carronade has twin Gauss/SB-Gauss

Dual AC 10s and no other weapons sounds like the Fire Scorpion, which is a quad.

I suspect it is indeed from a fan TRO, or maybe MWO? Either way, it's looking like no canon machine matches what you seek.

What about the Dark Crow? The guns are a bit too small for what the OP is asking about, but I know my memory can be fuzzy sometimes about details. Dual ACs in the arms (well ok, "arms" is maybe not the right word), intended for second-line kind of roles... maybe?

Something i was going to suggest. It sports only class-5 ACs but such combos are more common (there are about 9-10 designs with twin class-5 ACs in medium weight bracket).

Maybe the Canis?

this is the only clan mech that comes close to meeting the visual description besides the Predator. there are a number of omni configs and variants that have dual UAC/10 or LB10 but none that have art.

Yeah, sounds like the Canis and it got spread a bit . . . Wolves probably got some from the Coyote abathka.  The Falcons had enough to lose 2 in one battle to a Arcturan Guards regiment so that Col Blucher showed up in them to save Archer.
