Interdictor Question
« on: 14 September 2012, 08:17:41 »
Well really I have two questions, 1 can an interdictor enter the atmosphere and land and if not can it be modified to do so?
2 could you put a ftl drive out of a bug eye and rig up its jump sail to the interdictor?

1. Yes. Unlike the Achilles it is based on, nothing says the Interdictor cannot enter atmosphere.

2. Not under the rules as they stand. If the Interdictor was used as the basis for a new Sub-Compact Core WarShip, it could... but then it would no longer be a DropShip. In that case it would become unable to enter an atmosphere, and you would have to sacrifice a lot.
Mordin Solus: We need a plan to stop them.
John Shepard: We fight or we die. That's the plan.
Ashley Williams: Wow. That's the plan? Is it just me, or did Shepard have better plans before he died?
Urdnot Wrex: Silence! This is the best plan anyone, anywhere has ever had!
Garrus Vakarian: Yes! I AM SO THERE I AM THERE ALREADY!

Under current construction rules, KF drives can only be installed in JumpShips and WarShips. Subcompact drives are limited to WarShips. WarShips and JumpShips are not capable of landing.

Yes, KF drive vessels, assuming they survive the atmosphere (they take 100 points of damage per hex per turn of velocity in the atmosphere), do tend to use an aggressive lithobraking method for landing.

FM: 3085 in the Capellan section actually mentions an Interdictor "taking off" and a successful attempt by Capellan troops to drop on it (as in aerial dropship) and board and seize the vessel while taking off.

With 'Mechs, and it also killed half the company trying the stunt.  But that's Phyr's Hussars for you.
