Hi, Billy Mays here for Touring The Stars: Jardine. You're probably asking yourself why my slightly shrill, half-shouting voice is narrating this text in your head from beyond the grave. It's effective branding, kids. Roll with it.

Now you can learn about this mysterious planet and its connection to the Word of Blake and the nefarious Master in this EXCLUSIVE online offer! Only $2.99 for pages and pages of information! And your thinking to yourself: How can  it get any better??

And somewhere in the fluff in the old Dropships and Jumpships book it mentions a Holovid series called 'The RFL-3N" even!  Granted, the show was before MY time a bit, but even I saw reruns of The Rifleman!  Even the custom 'Mechs I've designed, either on paper or with HMPro I gave them number-letter designators that were included in their names.  Granted, you've got a few oddballs here and there.   ::)

ALM-7D Fireball ???
ZPH-1 Tarantula ??? Maybe should've gone with Zephyr instead?

Even back 30 years ago (hello TRO:3025 2nd printing!)  I thought it was a deliberate choice at shorthand and was more curious about the ones that didn't match the name.

Wait, you mean there are people out there that don't realize the model #s are a shortened version of the name in 99% of all units?

Huh....how.....  I'm going back to bed.

the first part, yeah. it's the part after the dash

GRF. ok i see what you did there

GRF-1N. my brain has been completely compartmentalizing each side of the dash not noticing they used the variant designation to spell out the rest of the word. and now i'm cranky my eyes were opened this way after thirty damn years

WHAT WILL IT BE? STAY TUNED

Thanks Billy! I'm here now to tell you about the two new technologies we've found on Jardine! Based on the Word's examination of Clan tech, we're introducing two radical products.

First up is Oxy-Clean. This product will run through any heat sink system and clean out any buildup! That's right! A full coolant flush without the need to drain everything and start over!

Then we have Flexi-Seal. A more cost effective version of the Clan Harjel system, this plastic compound will seal up any gaps in your armor! Without you doing anything!

Sorry, couldn't resist.

----------------------
On another note, I'm really impressed by the scope of history in The Crazy Eights. I'm sure TTS: Jardine will be just as impressive.

Funnily enough, both of them have different designations in german translations, Tarantula being TRN and the Fireball being FBL.

I do wonder if there's any sort of fluff explanation why their code doesn't match their name like with pretty much every other mech
