So as some of you know I paint combined-arms battalion units for fun. Done 58 of them in the last 7 years or so.

There is a Grand Plan - initially one unit per major IS house, Periphery state, C*/WOB (inc RoTS ;) ), favoured Clans (Smoke Jaguars and Jade Falcons), and "other Clans" per major era. This plan is well in progress.

I recently did a battalion for the St Ives Lancers in the SIC era, and followed up with forces of the Tikonov Free Republic. Which connected in my mind with the FRR unit I did many years ago. Here's a new category - "Failed states!" (okay, add short-lived ;) )

So, moving forward, I need to identify failed/short-lived states who
- existed in a given period
- supported 'Mech, vehicle & infantry forces of at least battalion total size
- preferably have a canon paintscheme.

I'm specifically interested in such states in the Jihad, early & late Republic eras, or the Dark Age - while I've got representatives for the earlier periods, I'm not afraid to have two if I like the sound of it.

These don't have to be nice people. Oh, no (says WoB's Risk & Compliance manager for the APAC region  >:D ) But it doesn't hurt either way.

I'll toss out some names - Illyrian Palatinate. Fronc Reaches. Empire of Hall? Don't be limited by these. The main Periphery states are in a different part of the Plan - currently have done Taurian, Marian, and Magistracy forces.

But any & all information, opinion, and discussion on viable unviable states in these periods, or others, most welcome!

Cheers, and thanks in advance.

The Lothians ... yes, they could work well in the late Republic/DA era. And would justify non-standard armour units ;) Keep'em coming!

Is there a canon scheme for the Aurigans? Is it in the Report that got published? Would make it worth buying if it had details on the armed forces.

Before the requested time period, but for flash-in-the-pan, how about the Empire of Stephan Amaris VII? :D

For newer...what about the Kaumberg Archonette, and/or their Democracy Now nemeses?

Any evidence they had 'Mechs back then?

Quote
Dame Lorelei Logan dipped deeply into the Lothian treasury to hire additional mercenary units, and her daughter Liesel led a small Home Guard BattleMech unit against the invaders with astonishing success.

Sarna mentions the above as of 3054, and it seems odd they wouldn't have existed before then.  They had two battalions of mercenaries earlier, and it would only make sense to have native BattleMechs to counterbalance any aspirations to rule they would have had.

Kaumberg Archonette may work, but Democracy Now was a rebel group with no established color scheme; they hired mercs and pirates.

Y'know, I thought it had, but looking again, all it has is an illustration of a Thunderbolt and a quick mention much later of red and gold.

There’s the short lived Malagrotta Cooperative, which broke away from the FedSuns during the Jihad and got mostly gobbled up by pirates, with the remains eventually rejoining the Suns.

Does the Calderon Protectorate paint themselves differently than the Concordant?
Duchy of Andurien?
Filvelt?
Circinus Confederation?
Rim Terriories? (I'm not sure there is enough info to paint them)

While non of really established their own state before the Great Houses started going all in once again, some of the break away factions within the Republic had some fun units. I'm actually going to miss the 'Raiders as there are very few Corporate funded Mercenary groups in the BTU.

For short lived . . . Free Star Republic

Yes, the Aurigan Coalition scheme is described, and even Royal is pictured IIRC.

Well, in no particular order - and mostly outwith the dates/areas you wanted - then the following states haven't been mentioned so far.

United Hindu Collective
Finmark Free Republic
Oberon Confederation - the 2775-2796 version which later failed.
Terran Hegemony Remnants - Alliance Core, Lone Star Province, Lockdale Province, New Dallas Province, Brownsville Province.
Federated Commonwealth
Brotherhood of Azami
Chainelaine Isles

Former Free Worlds League provinces - Marik-Stewart Commonwealth, Principality of Regulus, Duchy of Oriente, Duchy of Andurien, Duchy of Graham-Marik, The Protectorate, Regulan Free States, Mosiro Archipelago, Duchy of Tamarind, Rim Commonality, Silver Hawk Coalition.

Added to that you have the later 3130 provinces which had swalled up some of the smaller states, so the Marik-Stewart Commonwealth, Regulan Fiefs, Oriente Protectorate, Duchy of Tamarind-Abbey.

Things change again come 3145 and the reformed FLW with the addition of Clan Protectorate, Covenant Worlds and the Augustine Alliance.

United Hindu Collective

The collective existed for over 300 years, so I don't think that you could call it short-lived.

Chainlane Isles subfactions:

Far Reach Collective
Empire of the Stars
Florenzo Consortium
Hanju Imperium
Helena Collective
Rondane Syndicate
Paran Free System
Vannite Pirate Kingdom
Duchy of Vendome

Throughout the Chainlane Isles, 'Mechs are present, but rare, and supported by mostly conventional forces, with occasional stiffening by slumming mercenary bands.

The Nation of Hastur.

You could always say the clans only thought they got them all during Klondike.  ;D
Good news is the lab boys say the symptoms of asbestos poisoning show an immediate latency of 44.6 years. So if you're thirty or over you're laughing. Worst case scenario you miss out on a few rounds of canasta, plus you've forwarded the cause of science by three centuries. I punch those numbers into my calculator, it makes a happy face.

There's the Aurigan Coalition.... Maybe a bit early for your preferences.
i'm considering working up my IS mech kickstarter rewards as a "Aurigan Coalition In Exile" Merc unit (since i've been using the dark ages period for my AS forces.. and the Coalition territory is now owned by the Capellans by the 3130's). probably will be pairing it with the mass of microarmor tanks i have to fill out points.

I second this suggestion—any Pentagon Power during Operation KLONDIKE. These powers would fit the Succession War era of your grand plan, quiaff?
