Copyright questions on out of print rulebooks
« on: 06 July 2018, 10:54:51 »
I recently bought an older set of rulebooks at a garage sale. Namely, the classic BattleTech rulebook and the classic BattleTech master rules, revised edition. These are both entirely out of print rulebooks from around 2002. I want to play the game with these rules with a few friends, however, I only have one copy of each rulebook, and need multiple copies for each of us. Would we have legal permission to copy the rules, for the sole purpose of necessary use, when the original distributor has ceased production? We noticed that the BattleTech site has a section dedicated to out of print rulebooks at https://bg.battletech.com/books/out-of-print-books/rulebooks-superseded/; however, the site is currently under construction and contains nothing. I do not want to buy copies of a more recent rulebook, as that would start to get confusing.

My mistake. I've contacted the wrong people for this.
