Battletech Fanfiction Links
« on: 26 January 2011, 13:58:57 »
Finding battletech fanfiction is never easy- it's spread thinly all over the internet. The recent forum trouble hasn't helped matters either. So here are a series of links. Some are to Battletech Fanfiction sites, some are to specific stories. All of the pure Battletech stories are of a decent length and a good quality- no short, poorly written fics on this list.
There is, towards the bottom, links to every Battletech crossover I can find which didn't make me want to claw my eyes out in agony.

Battletech Fanfiction Sites:

Kerensky and Kurita.
Stefan Amaris killed Richard Cameron, and took over the Terran Hegemony, and tried to kill all of the Camerons, to remove all possible contenders for the throne.
He missed one.
Stefan Amaris held important hostages from the successor states, to ensure they would obey him.
The Dragon refused.
Stefan Amaris thought he could conquer the Terran Hegemony, and hold it.

Mechwarrior: Scorched Earth (by Big Steve, and possibly others)
A setting where a rift forms in the Huntress system, and in the Outreach system, linking both the Inner Sphere and the Kerensky Cluster to a war-torn world in another universe- Earth. Now, the Wolfs Dragoons help America (and possibly other countries) fight off the Smoke Jaguar Invasion.
(This is apparently a reboot of an earlier thread. Though Big Steve is the only one writing so far, he's encouraging others to join in.)

Gundam Seed/Magic Knight Rayearth/Final Fantasy 6/Gundam Wing
Archangel's Amazing Adventures
During the events of Gundam Seed, the Archangel is thrown into another dimension- along with the 4 ZAFT Gundam pilots who keep trying to destroy it. They find themselves stuck with oneanother, as the Archangel travels from dimension to dimension. Chapters 9-16 take place in the Battletech universe, during the Clan Invasion, and subsequent chapters make great use of salvaged mechs from the battletech universe.
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3729961/1/Archangels_Amazing_Adventures
(Note: The author, for all his various weaknesses, is very good about letting his battles be decided by simulating the battles on tabletop, and sticking to the roll of the dice.)

Gundam Seed (And various influences from most other Gundam continualities, and the odd bit of Sailor Moon)
Multimage Empire series
In a distant future of the Battletech universe, where magic exists (though is very, very rare), the Multimage Empire has learned how to travel between dimensions, absorbing people and technology from many incarnations of earth- especially the Gundam ones. Now, a fleet misjumps, through time and space, finding itself stranded in the Cosmic Era of Gundam Seed.
(Note: Uses battletech rules for battles, equipment, Clan culture, but does not take place in the Inner Sphere.)
Legend of the Jokers Wild: The Mojlner is stranded in the Cosmic Era. Takes place during the end of Gundam Seed, through the years afterwards, working up to the end of Gundam Seed Destiny (though this revision hasn't got that far yet)

The MultiMage Chronicles
The founding of the MultiMage Empire. The author insists events will eventually catch up to the Inner Sphere eventually.

My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic
The Thessalonica Legacy, by Dashukta
http://www.equestriadaily.com/2011/07/story-thessalonica-legacy.html
(Note: All chapters are on Google Docs. )
(Note: Yes, I'm not joking, someone actually wrote a My Little Pony/Battletech crossover. It's not bad either, the author has a good knowledge of both series, and can write well.)

Now if only a few more of the fantastic authors will continue their stories that have left readers dangling for months and years.

There were some good continuing stories here that have disappeared. That is a great loss unless the authors can bring them back.

If anyone knows of another link for Saotome Gambit it would be appreciated.  The one on FF.net only has the first seven of thirty-three chapters.  I have the whole story, minus the last two epilogues IIRC, on my computer but the files are too large to post.

Hey everyone, if you can find links to other battletech fics that arn't on this forum, (or missing parts of allready posted fics, like Kerensky and Kurita), post them here, and I'll edit the first post accordingly.

Specific Links wanted:
Part 2 and 3 of Kerensky and Kurita
The Misadventures of Darius Davion series
The rest of the Saotome Gambit

and any other worthwhile fics.

Personally, I find at least the first three chapters of that story (haven't gotten farther even with skipping) completely unreadable despite liking both Ranma 1/2 and Battletech.

Here and they're still available via the wayback machine last I checked.

I'll take a look and try to salvage some of my old Fic Rec thread.

No, the site just does maintenance, and goes down for half an hour a day.

EDIT: Revised list

The mods have said that the archive is just temporary- just like the old archive- and couldd be taken down at any time. While there IS one fellow whose looking into hosting the old archive himself, the archived fics are by no means safe.

So if you're an author, and your fics arn't on the new forum, please repost them. (This will also have the rather nice side effect of having them all concentrated, instead of spread throughout long threads, intersperced with debates and comments)

The best advice I ever took (on the subject of fanfic writing) was; firstly read your stuff aloud, it highlights typos and grammatical errors and where things just ... sound wrong, and secondly to plan the story before starting to write it. It doesn't have to be meticulous, just a guideline, which you can follow, or change slightly as you go. I tend to have four or five lines per chapter, and always end up adding stacks of chapters as I think of stuff to add as I go, or realise stuff will take longer to write than I thought.

That's what I've done for the most part.

I also try and incorporate as much as the campaign events from the solo campaign I am playing into the story line as well.  For example, on the Arcadia contract I suffered numerous supply failures.  Writing that into the story line is easy for me and serves a purpose because I can say it's the militia commanders stealing from the supplies to line their own pocket, which helps out in many ways.

Can anyone point me at copies of the Kowloon stories, by Cannonshop? They were spread out, in large part through the old forumarchive, and I can't find them all.

Still looking for the Kwoolon stories, and the full version of the Saotome Gambit.

Thanks a bunch to Tokage for continuing to post all of his Darius Davion saga.

A brief, untitled, one-shot crossover, told from the crossover character's PoV.  ComStar and the Clans are just starting to duke it out on Tukayyid when a new player deals himself into the game.  Why?  For the honour of the Regiment.   }:)

Well I know I had a few fans for my spare attempts at writing and since I should now have my hard drive with all my back ups on it of them I may see about doing some re-writes once I figure out a way to recover the data* and reposting when not coding my next project.

*The problem is more that I'm lazy than anything else and a slight possibility that I grabbed the wrong case.

The FF.net link for "We Lie, We Cheat, We Steal" is an obsolete version that I'd update but... I hate ff.net. I'm aiming to eventually repost the "Reven" series of fics here, but a lot of the side material that allows Operation Jungle Drums to make sense was lost in the board crash.

In the meantime, links to my "Dark Age" fic series.

The original version died two forum crashes ago.  :'(  I've got it saved to my HDD, but I'm not sure I should repost it (or put it up as a downloadable file) without permission from the original authors.  :-\

That stinks.  As for reposting, I have not seen the original authors around either, but because it was originally posted in a public domain you would probably be safe if you put it up as an attachment with a big obvious disclaimer that it is their work and not yours.  Of course, I am in no way certain of this and they still might not be happy about it, but if you cannot get in contact with any of the original authors after reasonable effort I think you are probably safe if you add the disclaimer and note that you will remove it if they want.

Heh. :)  Chanman can confirm in any case.

Going through my files, want to repost cleaned-up Sybil before cleaned-up Knock, Nock. Evidently, don't have the former on phone or tablet. Had hoped to restart posting while waiting in urgent care today (having this lovely "who stabbed me?" pain in my side when I cough).

Oh, and Quickoffice Pro can't read RTF files?  Really?

It does look like it could be very good, the first contact scene was well thought out with how it addressed issues like language and the incompatibility of airlocks.  I just hope the author ignores the idiots in the thread pushing for insane technologies like a KF drive that does not need jump points and has a drastically increased range.

For those who remember Big Steve's 'Scorched Earth' series (a near-epic-length BTech/Near-Modern Earth crossover), he's doing a reboot over on SB.com.  Clan Smoke Jaguar discovers a 'spatial rift' in the Huntress system which leads to a war-torn world... and the other rift in that world's system means that holding it could be the key to victory for (or against) the Clans.

Yes, let myself get into the thought of rebooting the ol' shame.  I blame getting my brain cooked in Florida's sun myself....

Anyway, the discussion/worldbuilding thread is there in part because I want to make the setting open for people to write their own stories in it, and I'll try to facilitate this by making things like OrBats and timelines available, as well as big events (I'm now kicking off the Battle for Minneapolis in the first main story; the next big event will probably be the Clan Invasion of Australia).  I suppose I might just post the threads here, though, with the links having been made...

Cameron's Legacy: A survivor of a Comstar kill team on Caph devotes his life to taking down Comstar, from within and without.

Normally I don't recommend stories after only one chapter, but the prolog for this story could stand on it's own.

Edit: The rest of the story turned out to be ass, but what can you do?

For what's worth, folks, here are the ‘local’ links for the Virginia War stories on these boards:

Ense Petit Placidam
Meeting Engagement
Pieces of War anthology
  - Sea of Heartbreak pt.01, pt.02, pt.03, pt.04a, pt.04b

Please be aware that the recent board migration broke a lot of the formating and special-characters, so the first two stories are a little hard to read at the moment.  I intend to go in and fix that, but I’ll be making some other edits while I’m in there (including patching over the science flub inherent to ‘reading someone's RF traffic from another star-system’), so if you want to save off the current versions despite the broken special characters, you’d best do it soon.

There is a designated BattleTech Fanon Wiki. It was not used in years, but I recently used it to copy over all Fanon sites from the Sarna.net BattleTech wiki.
There were a number of stories copied there, some of them not too bad.

(Disclaimer: I have nothing to do with the BattleTech Fanon Wiki except for having copied over content that was going to be deleted on Sarna, and I didn't write any of those stories.)

No idea. However since first chapter was originally written in 2003 and latest last year, it is possible we could see more of it. As far as I know, Grey doesn't have account on this forum and having copies of those stories on this forum could be pointless becouse this forum has been cleared before and likely will be in future.

In the aftermath of the most devastating war in history, a mixed force including the last descendants of some of Earth's most ancient military units vanishes without a trace. More than two centuries later it reappears above an agri-world named Planting.

Ghosts of the Futures Past
TH-X1138 is lost in time. Their first battle with the Clans was a victory, but at heavy cost. As the Inner Sphere turns a cautious eye towards them, other forces are moving and Seeker Atalanta continues a quest that may lead to peace, dishonor, or worse.

This just in from author of Concrete Dragons:

I haven't "retired" from anything except the Navy. But yeah, real life, and my computer gaming life (WoW, SWTOR, Skyrim, etc.), are both rather demanding. As for more Concrete Dragons stories...well, I have a few brewing. But the canon CBT universe post-3067 is a place I don't like very much, and that has kinda turned me off to the game in general, so I haven't felt much motivation to write.

Maybe that will change soon. Maybe. I just opened up HMVee yesterday for the first time in months...
You know what they say, don't you? About how us MechWarriors are the modern knights errant, how warfare has become civilized now that we have to abide by conventions and rules of war. Don't believe it.

In the middle of Ghosts of the Futures Past, frakking awesome work!  Enjoying the read immensely.

I second the above. Excellent stories both of them, and I'm eagerly awaiting the update of the latest.

One of the fact that most intrigues me, which the author has thus far carefully kept from the locals, is that the SLDF taskforce has a strength of 40 compact core jump capable warships and supplyships (including Battleships, cruisers, frigates, destroyers, carriers etc.

Taskforce. Yeh. Right. In 2780 maybe. At the time of the clan invasion, that's a damn fleet. The federated commonwealth don't seem to have realised this yet :D. I'm looking forward to when they and the clans find out.

BTW, Blacktiger I must confess I thought you and the Ferryman to be one and the same person. Your stories have similar themes, similar ideas, and are both so good that I thought they might be from the same hand. Please do take that as a compliment. It was meant as one.

blacktigeractual's writing is better. Oh, and I could without the Stackpoling fusion reactor in the last chapter and the rather bad attempt at explaining it.

it would be nice if they could make a section for any fans fiction that gets over a 1000 views to have the story posted in book format.  something like that anyway.  that way stuff that is older could be held any one who needed a fix could read them

Well, it would appear that the links to the archive are toast, which means that I no longer have access to DD/2, Drumbeat/Redux, or the Lucian March  >:(. I still have DD/1 complete and in PDF, and I believe that I still have Thunder of Eagles, as well. I will try to upload both shortly.

If any kind soul happens to have copied the other three above, or if anyone knows where they are now linked, I would sincerely appreciate the info....Thanks

Stumbled on this today- pretty interesting so far though I am unsure where the author is going as far as story

Having read the entire thing, it's more of a Field Manual for House Kerensky/Terran Hegemony as if the events had taken place instead of the Exodus. I would say they either use it for their house game or it is the results thereof. In time, maybe a fanfic will show up referencing it. Not sure if the buildup to the fork in the timeline was official or rewritten by the author...

Honestly, it needs to be PDF'd and the TRO fleshed out and turned into a mini-fanTRO with some kind of art. It's not to the level of the Terran Hegemony fanbook PDFs I see floating in the Internet, but it's a pretty well put together attempt.

Sorry if this is a bit of a dead topic but I found a couple of good fanfics of Deviantart. They can both be found in this gallery along with pictures of the main characters and the equipment used.

He's said he has no plans to work on it again. The dangers of not plotting a story before you start writing it.

Heh heh...something that tripped me up with my own writing. That and my fic is based off of the campaign I play in, so I have to change things here and there sometimes. I just decided that it might be better to write down ideas and concepts I really like in Word so that I can simply modify it to fit into the story.

That and I can keep up with college better when I don't have ten tons of ideas ratting around in my skull.
