About Patlabor 3Main character on this one is police detective. Division 2 & Patlabors are side characters. Serious stuff, no fooling around.
I found it to be a good film, but not as good a Patlabor film as the other two.

Saw The Irregular at Magic High School movie yesterday, & it was a blast! The plot was pretty short & succinct for this series, but it was handled well with enough hints of something else tying back to the main light novels! Taku Iwasaki's soundtrack stole the show - I can hardly wait til it is released!

Todays episode of In Another World With My Smartphone was a blast, especially the end with the big fluffy white summoned critter. Reminds me of KONOSUBA. At least this time around the god invovled isn't a complete AHO, but having a party of women... definitely feels like KONOSUBA

Let us hope it is a good thing for Funimation and let us hope they don't decide to go the rout Hulu did and force people to sign up to watch ad supported videos or pay more for add-free videos.

Except the girls in Konosuba at least had some sort of ... character.

I mean, we all know that Isekai Smartphone is pretty much ripping off Rem and Ram dynamic from Re Zero minus yandere tendencies cuz those are uncool, Yae looks like the LN artist read "female samurai" and shrugging her shoulder just copied her straight off a Sakura Wars cover; Soucie fills the "we need a random blonde British transfer student with an Engrish name doing nothing" spot in all the classic ways; Yumina is pure lolicon pandering, and that should be enough said about her. Uh, it'll continue from there in the same way btw.

Yeah, this story broke a little while ago. Reaction seems to be pretty muted - there don't seem to have been a lot of dedicated users of the platform, & despite it being created collectively by most of the major anime production companies, it never seemed to get the kind of strong support it needed to really gain traction.

With Sony Pictures's purchase of 95% of Funimation, I suspect Sony is positioning themselves to become the primary Japanese pop culture export conduit. The alliance of Playstation & anime seems like a no-brainer, & I see the makings of a unified content platform beginning to coalese around Playstation & Playstation Vue. Most Japanese companies already have sound business relationships with Sony by necessity, which will make it all the easier to leverage those relationships to score exclusive content. I'm sure the companies that have been paying to operate Daisuki are looking around and deciding they'd rather let Sony pay them to handle the distribution side.

Daisuki was pretty much dead even before Bandai bought out all other shareholders in March.

I never saw anything worth watching on Daisuki
I have seen anime in DAISUKI that are region blocked for me over at Crunchyroll. Just yesterday I started watching Eromanga Sensei at DAISUKI site. Before that I have watched through at the very least High School Fleet, Gangsta, Granblue Fantasy, and Pandora in the Crimson Shell. Not worth of watching, huh?

Also don't forget that, for the US at least, Daisuki was the "we got it first!" for both seasons of Iron-Blooded Orphans.

I wonder how it will effect what products they'll be releasing from now.  Sony may not allow or Funimation be able carry competitor's line of shows.

That's unlikely. Sony's got a working relationship with practically every content company in Japan. Owning their own production company (Aniplex) hasn't resulted in Playstation not providing content from other companies. If anything, it gives Funimation increased leverage in negotiating licenses.

I just hope they can slightly change Funimation so it's dubs aren't so edited/censored or different from the original dialog. That's one my chief problems with that company.

Problem is a lot of people, at least in the US, view anime as just a bunch of cartoons. Pretty sure he would have a heart attack if he watched some of the stuff I've seen.... Some of those uncensored shows...  :o

Just finshed reading the "All You Need is Kill" manga.  I found it to be pretty good.  Love the powerarmour design.  Ending was great.  Sad, but great.

A week ago or so I discovered I had bought Himouto on Bluray somewhere along the way(Acen maybe?) so I figured I'd watch it.

I have to give this one a resounding "meh".  I had some good laughs(I'll be saying poe-tah-toe chips and Co-LAH for weeks), but there really wasn't much there.  Enough to get me to the next episode I guess, but if the series doesn't continue I won't be disappointed.   :-\

That's been sitting on my bookshelf for awhile waiting to get read.   Is it something I could safely read at work?

Anime IS cartoon. When Japanese people talk about anime, they could as well talk about whatever it is Disney and Pixar have put out.

Anime is also called child porn. Not the hentai ones either, but the popular ones which don't even have kissing. It seems nowadays hentai and anything with rape and gorn don't get that much of attention.

There's some gore, and a single shower/changing into armour scene, each with barbie-doll anatomy.

Well, apparently it was announced at concert that the Macross Delta Idol group was performing that there will be a Macross Delta anime film project.

This is on top of the a anime television series planned to be released in 2018.  However, it's not been given any details what it's about.

Both are part of marking of the franchise's 35th anniversary.

I hope heck at least one of them different from the different tact that Delta took. I just didn't enjoy watching that show very much.  It lost it's semi-realistic hard scifi feel to it.  Then again, i never liked Macross 7 either.

On another front, a sneak peak in the new and up coming Gundam Build Fighters series has been released, Gundam Build Fighters: Battlogue.

Reported on ANN, now AI pilots can be added to your Gunpla.

This included 11 minute preview.

I'm not sure how i like having someone else doing the fighting for me, but it was sure as fun see different characters duke it out.

At first, I thought it was just a cutesy little animu, some good gags, but then I realized what it's about:

The masks we all wear.

To each one of her friends, Umaru is a different person. To her brother and brother's buddy, a spoiled little brat. To her neighbor, a perfect schoolgirl. To her gamer friend, a fellow gamer geek. To her admirer, an adorable little moppet AND the perfect schoolgirl. She takes great pains to keep them all separate and distinct, to the point that she's afraid of being discovered even in the slightest way.

It's got a quite smart philosophy hiding under the adorableness. I'm now looking forward to that second season.

I think there's two key things that rubbed me the wrong way.

1)She's a complete prick to her older brother and he puts up with it.  Why?  Yeah he clearly cares for her, but that's not enough to put up with all that.

2) She physically changes into the little gremlin.   I thought it was supposed to just be a representation of her becoming a different person at home, but with Kirie it became really clear she actually changes.  Many times a work of fiction requires some suspension of disbelief, but this one just requires too large a leap for me.  Doesn't help that I didn't like Gremlin Umaru.    I'd rather have seen Umaru stay normal all the time.  She was actually likable that way even when she wasn't being a "perfect teenage girl".
