I like the idea of air power being on board as much as possible so I am curious if anyone ha come up with a way to do so?  I have a way but I've not tested it out yet....

To allow true aircraft to stay "on the table":

Multiply the Aerospace move by x10.  This is the new move in inches while on board.

Do not use the +2 for airborne modifier. Use standard available movement modifier (VTOLs are more unpredictable In their movements so they should be harder to hit thus will keep the +1 for VTOL like Jumping)

Must move a minimum of 15 inches or it will crash

Must move a minimum of 10 inches before turning 1 hex side facing

Can only target ground units at medium range or further.

Only terrain features within 5 inches of a ground target are counted for modifiers.

Targeting Mecha Level: 1-2 terrain gives no modifier,  Level 3-4 terrain is partial cover,   Level 5+ terrain blocks LOS

Targeting Vehicles/Power Armour/Infantry:  Level 1-2 terrain gives partial cover, Level 3+ terrain blocks LOS

All others no change

Unit is considered to be flying at level 20 thus ignores ground terrain for movement purposes.

Example:

Mechbuster's MV of 5a becomes 50".  It needs to move at least 15 to stay airbourne and 10 before it can make hexside turn.

Thoughts?

If you look in Total War, there's rules in there for keeping fighters directly over the ground map. They're absolutely horrible, but you might find elements you can use for Alpha Strike.

Also, fan rules go in the Fan Rules forum. :)

Most of my dislike stems from its placement in Total War, as opposed to StratOps. Had it been placed in a more advanced rulebook instead of presented as an option for standard tournament play I'd probably be more favorably inclined toward it, because I'd never see players on the forum talking as if it's the default. It's very bulky to play(yes, even more so than the systems that require you to set aside table space for a Low Altitude Map or Radar Map), and makes it needlessly difficult to line up ground attacks while keeping your fighter on the map. The wording is often confusing as to when you can make a facing change, among other things. There's more, but it doesn't come to mind quickly because it's been a very long time since I stopped using it, and never looked back.

I cannot recommend adapting it wholesale to Alpha Strike, but if you really want to, more power to you.
