What is a “Battledroids sculpt?” Ral Partha sold at least 16 different miniatures in Battledroids branded packaging before switching over to an orange BattleTech branded blister. The 1985 Ral Partha catalog is the only RPE catalog to refer to “Battledroids” and shows only the initial 8 miniatures sculpted by Robert Charrette. The following year’s catalog uses the “BattleTech” moniker and lists a total of 25 individual miniatures, 14 of which are marked as new releases and reflect the BattleMech designations used in FASA’s 1986 Technical Readout 3025.
Of these 25 sculpts, only 5 were not re-sculpted within the first few years of the franchise: the Thunderbolt, Crusader, Phoenix Hawk, Archer (Bombardier) and the Flea. Generally, the remaining 20 original sculpts are often referred to as “Battledroids sculpts” even though some of them were never actually sold in Battledroids packaging.
