It really makes me wonder if Support Vehicle rules could make some of these systems... ;D

According to Strategic Operations, personal re-entry units are definitely a thing, used by both aerospace fighter pilots and sport space-divers.

That's basically my point... Cray (or whoever wrote that bit) was spot on! :)

Oh, it's absolutely Cray who did it.  He also slipped in inflatable lifeboats, which he's been wanting to do since at least 2004.
