Indirect Fire and Special Ammo
« on: 30 November 2015, 18:25:44 »
So the question came up this weekend - Can you use special ammo with IF?

For example, an LRM Carrier has IF3, LRM2/3/3 and is loaded with Swarm missiles. If it fires indirect, does it also get Swarm?

Likewise, would heat-seeking missiles gain the bonus?

I saw nothing that explicitly forbade the combo, but I have been fooled before.

You should probably ask this in the Rules threads for an official ruling (if you haven't already)

Otherwise, my "unofficial" opinion = So long as you deal the LRM special's damage [at the appropriate range] I think it would be fine.

I'd also insist that only the accuracy of the weapons be allowed; bonus damage should apply for directly-fired weapons.

Biggest reason it should be allowed: the munitions are "self-contained" and not guided with other direct (Artemis, TAG) or indirect (Narc) electronics.
Biggest reason it should NOT be allowed: making enemies out of your friends who disagree with you.
