Battletechnology did the Battleaxe way back in the day with two PPCs, two LRM-5s, and jump jets.  I always thought that was pretty cool.

As for homebrews, this forum is littered with my Blazer Cannon designs...  :D

Battletechnology's Wolfman.  Can't wait for the classic minis to be released so I can build a 3025 version.  This one was built from the Primitive versions.  Not sure I want to custom one from the PP parts since the PP Rifleman is pretty top heavy.

My top favorite is clearly the Linesman.

The runner up is BattleTechnology's Huntress - the first official ArtilleryMech.
I also liked the Guardian for its fluff; and I kinda sorta put it into my first BattleCorps story without mentioning it by name. ;) (Of course I couldn't use a non-canon 'Mech and had to step around the issue. Make your own guess what kind of SecurityMech "Guardian Company" uses.)

The Obsidian Idol from solaris7, a Clan 100 ton OmniMech with XL engine, F-F, and ES.  One configuration had 4 Clan Gauss Rifles.

The overall concept was using (and abusing) the Clan tech advantage to make a dangerous opponent.

IIRC, I also designed a 55 ton LAM, using the Malach walkers as an example.  Two sets of Claws, and a lot of medium lasers.  Their entire purpose was to be in LAM mode most of the battle, using pack tactics to pick a lone enemy to kill it.

Pity the old forums and database from solaris7.com are gone

What is your favorite unit from a non-canon publication?

Clan Punisher

You didn't say it had to be a physical item. I see it as a Unit as in which military organizational unit do you favor the most.

Not going to shill my own designs. But a fan build that I shall never forget:

Humvee
5 tons
ICE 9/14
1 ton standard armour
MG and 100 ammo, Turret
1 ton infantry bay

So elegant.

That Humvee doesn't seem to be workable with a turret. With front-mounted MG it works though.

Anyway, favorite non-canon unit...
Really difficult question really. Haven't seen many, and most certainly not many i like (talking about looks).
MW4Mercs Hellhound looks good, and was fun to play. Maybe that one.
MekTek's Black Heart had pretty striking looks. Incidentally Sarna has an article with art to boot, no idea where the art is from. http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Black_Heart_(MekTek)

Well, if I'm allowed to mention my own creations, then the EIN-1A Einherjar or the Tindalos Light Attack VTOL.   If not, then the HMH-3D Hammerhands.

Here are a few fun ones from Cray:
Compact core Superfreighter
A Dropship to carry a Company Combat Team (3 of them can carry a Regimental Combat Team)
When ammunition costs more than the launch platform

Various Battletech forum threads that had good vehicles
MechWarror 1 vehicles conversions
For when you need to spam missiles
L-5 Doberman submarine
Killwasp robotic infantry
Piranha robotic infantry
Several different robotic infantry
Dire Zamboni

One I found a while ago was the Stalin Battlecruiser.  No L-F battery, no Dropship Docking Points, just lots of armor and heavy naval autocannon broadside

Soooooo seconding THIS!

Back when I read about it and I realized I had a spare Wolvie and Rifleman lying around, they volunteered to become my own personal Wolfman! Need to consider doing something like that again!

Another good one! Tried to convert an Imp into one but just never succeeded to my liking.

The Mechs from the Unbound Adventure Book. While it was published under FASA, I don't know that it's considered any more canon than the events in Star Lord or Far Country.

The Japanese version of BattleTech.  Kinda wish those were made into minis, and the fact that some were included in the Solaris 7 boxed set is a plus.

I admit that I like cross-overs, so the stuff from Nebula California is up my alley, too.

I liked the concept behind the TR: 1945, but I think the limitations of the system focus made for poor application to the tanks.

Now, if it comes to units from other franchises I'd like to see BattleTech stats for:

Kenner's Mega Force die-cast combat vehicle line.  You've got standard vehicles from the 20th-21st century with some interesting sci-fi add-ons, like VToL Craft, and anti-aircraft tanks that can go vertical to get a higher clearance for its pom-pom guns. Then you've also got mobile structures, like the Scorpion attack tank with a unique looking hovercraft, the Brimstone ICBM launcher, and so on up to a giant mobile command center.

Heck, the Thunderwolf is what I imagine a Planet Lifter to actually be.

I'd love to see the Infantry Walkers from Dirtside (VOTOMs in any other name).  For that matter, Gears from Heavy Gear and/or the frames and ships from Jovian Chronicles would be neat.

Grav tanks and fighters from Centurion and Interceptor from the Renegade Legion universe.

There are many more - a lot of infantry suit looks that I prefer over what we get out of the source books, for example.
But I'll leave it at that for now.

Oh, yeah. I forgot that strange fighter from the BT Cartoon and the Somerset Strikers Source Book.  While it was underpowered, the versatility was unique, and I liked the look.

Kinda had that Bablylon 5 Star Viper vibe to it.

It is canon.
Interstellar Operations revised rules for certain equipment (such as the Virtual Reality Piloting Pod), and the Prometheus and the... other 'Mech (can't recall the name) can be found on MUL, ie they're absolutely canon.

Pretty sure the latter two books are also considered canon pretty much. Whether they'll ever be referred to again is another matter.
