... I wonder what kind of drugs the Wolvies are using to achieve such ... enthusiastic cooperation from a bunch who are traditionally less than open with outsiders.
very, very good ones, coupled with suggestions that the SLDF-in-Exile might be willing to help stop the apocalypse they all lived through. (that kind of hope is more powerful than ANY drug.)Perhaps, but it would be interesting to see the characters making that decision: that complete openness with this bizarre and heretofore unknown Clan faction is preferable over, well, asking to go home, and putting their trust in their own nation/worlds.
slip yourself into the Coasties' perspective for a moment, and imagine the interrogator starts off with the right...omissions? the right hinting? The right leveraging of desperation, hope, and isolation? If you've read the previous Ngoverse (I should include links) the horrors these people lived through, and the promise of 'making it go away' or 'making it not happen'? what would you do, if you found the clock rolled back, but you needed help to undo a horrifying catastrophe that scarred your entire life and cost you everyone you knew, what would you do to prevent something mind-bendingly horrible, if you had the chance, and damn the consequences because you've already seen worse?

‘We’ know the Wolvies are basically decent. These guys? Not so much. I understand the idea of ‘we can head off the plague, and the Jihad’ ... but I’d expect a lot more of ‘thanks for your help, but we should really be heading back to the FedCom to a) warn them about the incoming Clan juggernaut, b) that the Blakists are a big threat and c) watch out for plague’ rather than ‘let’s spill the beans about Black Box technology to these people who’s cousins are about to kill millions of Commonwealth citizens in a few years.’
I’m not saying that they wouldn’t make that decision ... but it would be nice to see them making it.
an excellent point, and one I ought to have considered, but I have to warn you, I tend to churn this stuff out in the raw, no prior editing or careful planning (I only do the 'smart' way when I'm working directly with a collaborator. This is just a 'tease' for a possible collab with Cawest) so I often end up with mistakes I ought not to make, this makes having an editor when doing what you hope will be professional work, so darned important-to catch those errors before they hit the eyes of readers. No problem. I’ve generally enjoyed your work, and I’m quite familiar with your writing style. I wasn’t intending to complain or nitpick, just to offer an outside perspective and perhaps to suggest a point or two. I’m quite enjoying this.
I'm enjoying your idea of TDS as a deeper connection to hyperspace. It's almost like how in Marc Miller's Agent of the Imperium, he has a character who is learning to Astrogate has to look through a portal during the jump, as part of understanding it. It's said to drive some mad, others find it beautiful, and some get nothing out of it.Probably going to catch hell for this, but it reminds me of the Pilgrims from the Wing Commander movie (no, I never played the games: didn't have a powerful enough PC at the time): by embracing space, they were gifted with a flawless sense of direction and the ability to calculate FTL jumps, in their heads, faster than the most advanced computer.
... sorry, I guess I’ve just missed the background details to make most of that make sense to me.Which part(s) are the most unclear? There are a lot of old threads to read for this stuff, but I can provide summaries if I know what needs covering.

"They read our service records, cross checked with the crew, and decided I've got...'a bonanza of research material' in terms of personality disorders stemming from my 'cognitive dissonance' between who I am, who I was, my experiences, religious faith and relationship with you. it's enough on the SLDF's standard scale to list me as non-deployable, they also suggested I'm seriously depressed and pose a risk to myself and others due to that depression. They want me to get scheduled for pharmaceutical intervention and long term counseling. sound familiar?"I get the PTSD bit, but the rest about relationships and religion etc ... are the Wolvies saying that somehow her lifestyle doesn’t match up with her religion? Or is it something about her sex change? None of their business. She’s not working for them, she doesn’t report to them ... technically she’s a detainee.

As a child/young teen, Nicholas Mihn was raised in a very religious Belter community, and thus to respect the faith and its elders... one of whom sexually abused him (dissonance). He was raised to be a heterosexual male, but was sexually abused by a man (dissonance between sexual self-identity and actual sexual history). He acted out on-line and (thought he) killed someone in the process (dissonance - religious respect for life v. I’m a killer), undergoing gender-transition as a (meant-to-be) temporary disguise to make his getaway (thereby adding gender dysphoria to the already frakked-up mix). Nicole Mihn spent time transporting pirates around and thus being a pirate by association (dissonance — raised to do right v. acting and living as a criminal) before engineering the ship’s capture (out of guilt for what she was party to) and being imprisoned. In prison, she survived the Arluna Flu (barely), almost starved to death before desecrating and cannibalising her cellmate’s corpse (and how many taboos does that violate?), then was rescued and inducted into the KCG.
In general, the dynamics between the Uptimers and Downtimers feels ... weird. Maybe that’s the idea, because it’s an unprecedented situation?

The problem is not who the Wolverines see, because it is none of their business and they know it. They also know that it’s the whole issue of ‘who does Nicole Mihn see in the mirror?’ that makes her a psychological disaster zone. Who is Nicole Mihn? Does she know any or all of the answer(s) to that question? Does she accept the answer(s)?
She was born and raised a heterosexual male, but she’s now been biologically female for the greater part of her life (and being a Flu survivor makes that irreversible), leading to gross confusion over her sexual identity and orientation. Is she a man trapped in a woman’s body, a woman who used to be a man, or was she a woman all along and simply born with the wrong plumbing fixtures?
Who and what is she attracted to? Currently, she self-describes as chaste, which seems to be avoiding the whole mess, but that’s a dodge, pure and simple. Is she genuinely asexual? If she was attracted to women, would make her a straight man, or a gay woman? Would being attracted to men (after one abused her as a boy) make her a gay man, or a straight woman? Does her original religion have any degree of acceptance for homosexuality, or does it proscribe it as an abomination? What does her current state of faith have to say on the matter?
Not to mention that in every way except sexual and legal, she and Linda Sithers are effectively each others’ spouses and one-true-loves. (And that fraks up Seether just as bad, because she self-identifies as a mostly-straight woman, but she’s utterly devoted to Nicole Mihn for complex reasons of her own.)
Nicholas Mihn was raised to have reverence for human life... and then he (thought he) killed someone with a hack-prank and ran to avoid responsibility for it. Nicole Mihn so hated being a transporter of pirates that she engineered their capture and willingly risked the death-penalty to stop her passengers’ depradations. Nicole ate flesh from a rotting human corpse to stay alive. Nicole was retrained to be a Coast Guard, a member of a group dedicated to saving lives — and as a member of this nominally life-saving organisation, she has had to kill, and kill, and kill. However necessary it may have been, she still ended up murdering thousands of helpless people to contain the Arluna Flu, then spent years at war against the Blakers.
That’s the problem the Wolvie doctors see: Nicole doesn’t have definitive answers to any of those questions, she hasn’t been able to reconcile her learned values with her deeds and experiences. The KCG has deliberately kept her so busy doing her duty that she hasn’t had time to find those answers, or process even a tiny fraction of the trauma and attendant emotions she’s endured, or make any kind of peace with even a fraction of what’s happened in her life and how it’s shaped who she is right now. (They knew that if they gave her the chance to stop and think, she would almost certainly implode or suicide!) Nicole will not be even close to psychologically healthy until she does find some kind of peace with all that she’s seen and been and done... but with a life that hellish, where the blazes do you start?
As as to the dynamics... functionally they’re castaways, marooned by a cosmic accident. As such, the Wolverines are doing their best to treat them as guests, albeit rather exotic and unexpected ones, and are offering them as much hospitality and assistance as they can pending a final determination of their status. After their catastrophic misjump, SOP dictated that that include routine medical exams, including psych evals. Which most of them quite naturally flunked, given the... mess their timeline has been through.
Well, at least someone's being reasonable about the unreasonable situation the universe has put them in... ^-^Or, to (mis?)quote two of my favourite movies:
well, getting the loonies dealing with the mything wovles....that is going to really get the shit to hit the fan. much less helping ms. ngo do her shit and help them out....ah god....her helping the colonys and the wolvies.....
I hope the Wolverines have the regeneration tech to grow her two fingers back...
"You know this man?"Um ... how? Seriously, how did this guy get from Wolverine space to being a Blakist higherup in Nicole’s time period?
"In another life, I executed him on the Konrad-Metis station." Nicole said, "he was responsible for the detention of half the leaders in the Metis Coalition in 3081, as the ROM overseer of the BTA in the belts. Department was Rho-Gamma...I seem to recall your faction by then was with the Toyama sect...and you were considerably older." he quivered with sudden fear, meeting her eyes. "Not quite that man yet." she said, "But you're ROM, Comstar intelligence, 'Regular Operations Maintenance'. How are you reporting back?"
Um ... how? Seriously, how did this guy get from Wolverine space to being a Blakist higherup in Nicole’s time period?

I’m still behind on the Copeland’s thread, so it’s possible he was a stray the trading-run picked up after Dunianshire (they occasionally get that kind of recruit, IIRC), but other than those trading runs, and occasional covert contacts with Dark Caste Clanners, until the Colonials arrived the SLiE was more or less a closed society. Fortunately, that very isolation makes it unlikely that he’s been able to report in to ComStar/ROM central and blow the Wolvie secret, but it’s still a bit of a puzzle to me.

uhm, remember, in the prime timeline, Zughoffer Weir was in Blakist service. so do the math.I kinda presumed that was a salvaged wreck, given I can’t imagine the SLIE actually joining ComStar. I was thinking this was a different timeline: in the uptimers timeline, the Wolvies never found the nebula, and were a rag tag band of survivors when ComStar found and swallowed them, or they just found the wreck (if the Blood thing isnt real), whereas in THIS timeline they DID, and they’re too secure, strong and cohesive to be pulled into the Blakist cult.
I think the implication is that this guy was a Wolvie convert to Blake via the ‘Blood’ feldercarb ... which means she just beat up someone who’s got no idea why she attacked him.An innocent man would not have reacted that way to her questions, much less had a contingency-tooth full of cyanide. He has to have been an agent for someone.

EDIT: on the bright side, Dinh just found his niche. Methinks we’re going to see a massive transformation in the SLiE Fire Service, and maybe even a smoke-jumper contingent forming out of this and his KCG firefighting background. Assuming he lives through this; Cannonshop has never been shy about killing characters when he feels it appropriate.
Just thinking.
If you're in a desperate situation, need firebreaks right now, and collateral damage is the least of your problems ... considered using a fusion drive?
A hovering, slowly moving DropShip could totally remove fuel from a wide band by virtue of incineration. And DropShip power ratings mean even the atmospheric buffeting from thermals can be overpowered by maneuvering jets.
Not for the faint-hearted, though ...

The Ones might get it, and want that cyberware for themselves.

Going back to speculation about the best way to fight the massive fire... am I alone in thinking "cold" orbital fire support - Naval Gauss for the win? Or just non-HE Naval Autocannon

Why not go truly cold? Attack the fire's triangle with cryonics, such as dry ice, liquid nitrogen or some other super liquid? Dropping several large vessels filled with said material on the fire should make the fire more manageable. It wouldn't completely put it out, but would take the wild out of the wildfire.
Not at all economically viable (fusion power helps out here), or may not be readily available (CS has say here, it's his world), and would definitely be a hazard to the firefighters, but should theoretically work.

:o :o :o Nice. Wonder what Leoben thinks as opposed to Deanna.“Bla bla bla water metaphor bla bla Will of God bla bla bla. Bla.”
Did they tell Nike about the rumours they heared about the helpful "Caspar" aka Tabby?
...There was another Caspar, during the war, it was supposedly on OUR side, ran by the callsign 'Tabiranth' though they also say it was callsigned "Sybil Luddington", Stone ordered a five year hunt for that one,...
But Tabby and Sybil was mentioned in Post #52:
I think, if Nike knows that they are other Caspars out there, she would most likely try to find them so she isn´t alone anymore.
Her past is fixed, but her future isn't... ^-^Always butterflies.
...that's my kind of evil >:D
So they promoted her again... nice... ^-^For all their bold talk of rearmament and taking the fight to the Clans/Cylons, at the end of the day New Circe is one remote colony-world with less than two million inhabitants that has functionally zero experience with large-scale warfare, much less a host of other issues like pandemics or large-scale forest-fires or organised crime or domestic abuse. In an environment like that, you have to make the most of anyone who comes along who possesses the necessary experience and skillsets, and KCGS Nuevo Peublo III was packed full of people who’d spent their entire lives learning skills and fields the Wolvies barely know exist, most often in ‘classrooms’ where continued survival was the closest thing you got to a ‘passing grade’. I’d be more surprised if Seether and Mihn don’t end up with flag rank before year’s end.
I can see them as O-6s, but Flag rank requires a bit more political acumen than either one has so far shown. Knowing your stuff better than anyone else will only get you so far.
With regard to Patrol Leaders and Squadron Commanders, I think you mean their "positional" titles are Captain and Commodore. Though I'll say Captain is a positional title for any ship CO. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Yep, she's a Lyran. :D
Traditionally, going back to World War 2, and up until changes in the 1980s, Special Forces as a career ended at Colonel. After that, you weren't SF anymore, you were just another infantry officer, often with a 201 file filled with too much Black Ink for a promotion board's comfort, and a decided lack of the usual merit-badges due to said black ink, pushing promotion possibilities downward. (this changed in the 1980s and resulted in a great many career officers going for the now-coveted 'tower of power' consisting of Airborne, Ranger, and Special Forces tabs...even when they really shouldn't have.)
Politics over effectiveness, say it is not so....
An interesting tidbit, academic, personal, or family knowledge?
It's not Lyran to be a professional.
More a joke about the Lyran military stereotype about having an excess of staff position. Of course this breaks the mold by being effective and efficient staff work...
Something tells me this was not just an unexpected side-effect of the test on D’Anna.Sometimes it's easier to seek forgiveness than permission
... Nike, please tell me you got permission for this?
Sometimes it's easier to seek forgiveness than permissionYeah, but Nike has a track-record for getting attacked by the Good Idea Fairy (remember what she did to Doral, and how it turned out she’d grossly misread his relationship with a Colonial woman pre-Fall?), and the Wolverines know she needs adult supervision. Especially since this particular ‘good idea’ could have colossal (and unpredictable!) ramifications for Cylon culture and the strategic situation as a whole!
You’re making a lot of sense, Nikki, but the ‘build for victory’ plan also requires manpower, and IIRC NC’s total population is less than two million. Even at the Wolvies’ (disturbing!) degree of societal militancy, you’re just not going to have the warm bodies to crew and support more than... what, one gunboat Squadron? Maybe two, at a stretch? I don’t have first-hand knowledge of these kinds of nuts-and-bolts, but AFAICT, if the gunboat force gets beyond the half-division mark, there just won’t be enough personnel — especially competent ones — to staff them all and keep the supporting industry and infrastructure running properly.
They have access to a Caspar, so they might already have a head start on developing automated technologies that will stretch their manpower considerably. Maybe not fully unmanned ships, given local cultural norms, but perhaps ones that could run with very small crews, not to mention the civilian side of things, where you can replace the unskilled labor with machines.

It's worth noting that the SLDF in Exile has already shifted quite a lot in doctrine from the old Star League Navy anyway though. They dismounted some of the HNPPC's and Naval Lasers from Zug and Bismark to mount on Galactica and Pegasus and in return received hundreds of Colonial Point-Defence cannons from the Battlestars.
They're also already building the Olympian Class ships (basically a scaled-up Titan dropship with a Colonial Jumpdrive, and multiple banks of LRPPC's, MPL's and LBX-UAC's for dealing with massed Raider attacks).
The notion is basically keep the battleships at home and when you run into heavy opposition Far-Jump the big boys in. Thanks to conscription and the reserves they have a lot more trained manpower than you'd expect for a population their size so they can keep the things running as long they don't have to continuously.
Jumpfighters (a Kirghiz with the FTL from a Raptor) are the other factor of course.
Oh, one bit of New Circe demographic trivia. Thanks to a 3.5% annual population growth rate, approximately half the population is aged twenty or under, so there are always plenty of draftees! Thanks to conscription and the reserves (you're liable to be called back to the colours until you're are at least 40) they have a lot more trained manpower than you'd expect for a population their size so they can keep the capital ships running as long they don't have to deploy them continuously.
It strikes me that the re-processing old hulls strategy overlooks building up mining and smelting capacity...
actually, it builds up smelting capacities first, while giving lead-time for prospecting and mining efforts to catch up.
Plus capacity is more than a shipyard. It is all the supporting industry such as the manufacture of capital grade weapons, or multi-Gee drives for ships massing several hundred thousands of tons, or even the high ten-k tons. The later was a major delay for the FedCom Fox class frigates.I can only wish i'd put it as succinctly.
Sounds like Minh is looking to scrap those hulls not just for raw metals, but major systems that are also inadequately robust for replacing wartime losses, much less serious expansion of NC's hull numbers.
Of the big capital ships both the McKenna Zughoffer Weir and Texas Bismark can carry a decent quantity of aerospace fighters ( 50/40 respectively) and small craft (16/16) so they are adaptable enough to keep operational, if not deployed methinks. Factor in that they can both bring six dropships along for added fighter-support (Titans and/or Olympians), that's a useful capability as well.
One problem with a Colonial FTL is that it can't Far-Jump (you need a modified K-F Core and L-F batteries) so it's handy to have a means to carry your shorter-ranged but tactically very useful Jump-Dropships along on.
Zug and Bismark as strategic Carrier-Carriers ;)
The Black Lion Rickenbacker should be mothballed though given that it's not needed to support lengthy expeditions back to the Inner Sphere any more with the era of Far-Jumping approaching.
The modified Riga/York Class Yukon is quite a bit smaller than the ships above but can still carry 50 aerospace fighters itself (plus 3 small craft) so I'd think of that as a definite keeper. This is especially true when you consider it only needs 240 crew which is less than a third of the Zug for the same number of fighters.
Say two operational battlegroups, one based around Yukon, one around Nike, with Olympians making up the numbers.
Zug and Bismark kept at home, mostly crewed by draftees and reservists not regulars, but ready to go.
In a humorous aside you could even carry a Viper on top of a Kirghiz, with that being carried by an Olympian and the Olympian carried by the McKenna.
Making Zughoffer Weir a Carrier-Carrier-Carrier.
Ba dum tish ;D
I can only wish i'd put it as succinctly.
My own suppositions (and correct me if I'm off-base here) but the New Circe government will likely veto entirely the scrapping plan, but approve the construction of the infrastructure and many of her proposed changes to deployment and training using the new ship designs-because that LATTER part makes strategic and tactical sense to them, though there will still be fights over deployment durations and 'radius of action' estimates.
So what do you call bigger Sampans?Sand Pebbles.
*snip*Well, that probably explains the encephalic inhibitors right there...
In the last four months, Cylon technology had advanced by leaps and bounds. Study of captured Battlemechs, some intact, showed areas of comparative brilliance. The computer systems were relatively primitive, but the materials technology and some of the weapons designs were brilliant.

TDS is a mental illness? ???
I know what it is, hence my question...Think of it like arachnophobia. A lot of people get uneasy about encountering spiders — it’s just human nature when confronted with something that has too many legs and eyes to be trusted. People who have rooted-to-the-ground panic attacks or screaming hysterics in those same circumstances get odd looks and, in a lot of cases, therapy or sedatives for what is manifestly a gross overreaction to something that, in the vast majority of instances, can’t do a human being any real harm. But a certain culture sees something different in those arachnophobes’ moments of freezing or babbling panic, moments of clarity that let them tap into the secrets of the universe, something that might make them conduits to Anansi, the spider-god of knowledge and wisdom.
"You were five, Hank. I'm still amazed you remember it at all. Aunt Thanh's ship was doing cargo runs out on the Davion side periphery around the Taurian areas, then one day..poof. gone."

and we reach the end of 3048. A crew of Wolverines and Colonials under the leadership and instruction of a Kowloonese from the Sol Belts is 1050 light years from home.

Liz still won't forgive him, though... he HAS to know that...
if you could save a loved one from a horrible fate-but it would cost them never forgiving you for doing it, would you? How far would you go? what would you sacrifice to save your sister or your brother from an agonizing death you 100% know is coming for them? And when he discovers that his new benefactors are lying through their teeth? That they have no way of helping his sister, and they’re just using that hope as a tool to manipulate him into fighting against his own people?
that's kind of where Henry's headspace is-he's acting on hope after burying despair, choosing a path that one hundred percent will hurt, that she won't forgive, because he knows what she's facing. Lizzie was too young to really know Uncle Truc, and henry was small too-but not AS young when their father's brother succumbed to Cholmann's. he knows, without question, what her future looks like if he doesn't take this offer.
mind that he doesn't know the Clans never really licked it so much as just screened it out, but he knows what the universe for his sister looks like and he's been offered a hope to change that, and being a good man (well, good boy still, at this point), he's making a meaningful sacrifice for someone else, that won't ever be rewarded.
and he's willing to do this.
(for those who've read the previous stories, Liz learnng this was a watershed moment that changed her on a fundamental level.)
With the loss of Blackjack, how about throwing money at Sakhara?
"Yeah. I know what Liz wants me to do-get out and get things straightened out back home after our father's been a shitty absentee landlord, but she's wrong, see? I own enough assets to outfit a proper merc unit, or hire one, that can do a deniable operation deep in enemy territory. I just have to be out of the service before I can do that."To quote John MacLane in everyone’s favourite Christmas movie: “No, you macho ******, no, no!”
Well if Loeben can put the appropriate baseball bat in Liz's hands, maybe she'll be able to talk sense into him...Even if she could read Pat’s mind, she’s not even on the right planet to carry out the needed percussive persuasion. :(
I'm 100% certain the regency on Kowloon is operating well outside the bounds given to it, and I'm also 100% certain Hanse didn't expect them to stir up this much trouble. They'll get what they deserve, and Hanse will sleep just fine at night.Sure, AFTER he deals with the cartoonish villains who are screwing not only with his wife’s nation, but his SONs inheritance ... and getting CAUGHT doing it, because even in Hanse was going to approve this kind of shit, you can bet that it would take more than a fourteen year old Nancy Drew to realise it was anything more than bad luck, piracy and a local economic downturn.
Plot twist, Hanse sent them to Kowloon because of their corrupt tendencies and wanted a deniable way of dealing with them. Actually, he's disappointed the 'Loonies took this long to live up to their reputation. :D

Even Hanse ‘The Magnificent Bastard’ Davion can have an off day, especially since even he has to delegate some things in a realm as XBOX-hueg as the FedCom, and if he trusted the wrong person’s assessments of Stonecipher and Condit....Exactly: he would not only be furious at Condit and co, but at himself for allowing their crimes to be carried out ‘in his name’.
I mean, I get that Liz has a persecution complex and sees the blackest motives to everything and everyone around her; I’d be surprised if she didn’t, given Kowloon’s history, much less her own, is basically tailor-made for inculcating that kind of mindset. But this could well just be a case of ‘Hanse trusted the wrong guy(s)’, instead of ‘Hanse Davion acting with malice aforethought’.
Aaaand the Hanse bashing continues. I deleted my earlier comment, not wanting to nitpick ... but from what I know of Hanse Davion, he’s most likely to be the first to demand that Stonecypher and Condit are put up against a wall and shot (well, maybe Condit can ‘retire to a new posting on a planet that mysteriously gets hit by pirates.’ I can buy that Stonecypher is doing this to toady up to his First Prince, and maybe he’s invested in the same industries, but ... he’s doing it in Hanse name.
Hanse takes personal responsibility seriously. If anything, I can imagine Melissa’s talk is likely to horrify, then enrage him. I could then imagine him ordering an in depth review of any other such regencies, and former Federation nobles who have been assigned feifs in the Commonwealth, to see if anyone else is abusing the trust he put in them, and blackening his name via proxy.
I get this is from Liz’s perspective, and maybe she’s just making assumptions ... but if you’ve decided that Hanse Davion has ruthlessly decided to order his leigemen to rape the worlds of his wife’s nation for his own personal gain, while assuming that there was no way his wife, a rather clever And empathetic lady, would NEVER find out or care ...
Hanse isn’t perfect, he isn’t blameless and he isn’t absolutely pure of motive ... but he’s not stupid. In fact, he’s known as being somewhat above average in the brains department. And this plot of Stonecypher’s is stupid on many levels.
After which, they made a try for child number six.Elizabeth Stiener-Davion, perchance?
Elizabeth Stiener-Davion, perchance?
vanishingly unlikely. it would be like naming your kid 'Vendetta', or 'Atrocity', or 'Misfortune'.I'm not sure about other two, but it's pretty Hanse to name his child Vendetta.
The horrible part is not so much the execution, they were traitors in wartime after all, but the fact that a teenager had to do it and publicly to boot.

11 bits in a Centurion's name? ???For the computer illiterate amoung the group, this means. .........?
Nick is in for a surprise when he figures it out, and I don't think the cylons as a collective are going to like it...
11 bits means a macimum of 2048 Centurions - highly unlikely.
It's probably a nick name .... pune intended.
"I do her caring, so she doesn't have to, yes." Jack said it so flatly, so sincerely, so offhandedly, that Liz had to fight the frantic giggle fit she felt rising.
What I'd like to know is who's going to notice the effective command circuit a minor noble from the Lyran periphery just used... It might not rise to Hanse and Melissa (thought it might), but SOMEBODY is going to care.
It sounds like after her initial hop Liz's "shuttle" rode commercial jumpships the rest of the way. At most paying for messages and the jumpships to wait a few hours each to let her ride them.

Lt. General Kristobel got the hint. "please...I can correct this."
"Correct it, do not allow it to happen again." Liz admonished, "The next visitor may not be so...understanding and kind as I am."
"You're going to report it?" she finally asked.
"Yes." Elizabeth said, "We've got imagery and audio. it's all going to be sent to someone with influence who has even less tolerance for slackers than I do."
"who is that?"
they rounded the bend off-post, and there was a military-style vehicle with the symbol of the Kell Hounds on the doors.
"Oh, probably Morgan Kell." Elizabeth stated, "He apparently heard I was in town. I may be in some trouble for this stunt."
LOL! He let her off light... ;D
And sure, she'll be there... AFTER a shopping trip! :D
Gina and Sharon can help her shop!
At least they're not on Tharkad. A Lady's shopping trip to the capitol can get... expensive.
Holding her own, I see... I guess the data feeds haven't gotten to Arc Royal yet with the details of WHY she publicly executed those two... individuals...sensationalism moves faster than facts. that she executed two nobles for economic crimes like embezzlement and mismanaging the planet probably is out. but she probably kept some of the finer details, like the 'creative redistribution' that was going on, out of the media and under wraps. the public doesn't need to know that one of Hanse's political appointees was stealing from the lyran state to enrich davion family members and their corporations. i'm sure it'll get out eventually (after all, the business side of how she responded can hardly be hidden, or the fact that the hardware those comapanies were using and needed Ngo Inc help to unfrak was listed as stolen) but by the time the actual facts get out, the media will have found something else to focus on, and the nobility ought to have found out the broad facts if not specific via word of mouth.)
Heh... Green doesn't NEED to know where the money's actually coming from... ^-^To quote an old Reunification War veteran:
I understood that reference! :DIt's the Mercenary life: so long as the cheque clears and the MRCB are happy...
That artificial gravity tech is going to be one of the biggest game changers...Especially if they can get it to work on Dropships, too.
What the heck, Mels?
What the heck, Mels?

Okay, guys, what kind of Propaganda/media is going to result from this? Remember, the Combine is an Otaku wet-dream in the canon, complete with a very cinematic view of Bushido.
so weirder ideas are better.
My first pick, is a "Cylon Anime!!" complete with Centurion plushies. Overnight, at least in ONE realm, the 'face' of the Kowloon Coast Guard has a roving red eye and lots of chrome, or has a female face who looks very uncomfortable and accidentally let slip she's terrified of being on a planet...right in front of the media.
what kind of weirdass shit is that going to trigger?
bonus points if you can think up something from the Davion/Steiner-Davion side that also plays off this in a humorous or silly way.
[/out of story]
*snip*That's TOO easy!
It probably wouldn't take much to draw a Cylon Centurion with samurai like esthetics.
Hanse was about to let her off the hook, too... ^-^The Fox always had a sense of humour
Hybrid? ???
Yikes! Wouldn't that be close to a "slave" for Liz? ^-^
No it would not. But it might make the wolverines even more suspicious, given what they've found recently (https://darthmojo.wordpress.com/2009/06/12/bsg-vfx-anatomy-ancient-cylon/)

How much "want" does a hybrid really have, though? ???
Those orders have exactly zero brass fingerprints on them... they're all Crown, all the way... ^-^
Sounds like Ms Rowe is at least a semi-competant human being, here... so long as she doesn't get a wild hair up her *** and decide "Hey, let's restart the RWR! Great idea!".....
he put the sensor array away. "Yeah." he said. "Affordable my ass. it looks cheap, but I'll lay a wager that any stick-builds on this street are there intentionally as chaff. I noticed surveillance cams in the drainage grates, and that roundabout we passed is just about big enough to house an air defense artillery installation."
"The whole housing development is the fortress." Daphne asserted.
It just doesn't look like that when looking down from above, or taking shots from a dropship coming in or leaving.
Dear Mrs Helgemayer;
I am writing this to explain why Jimmy was not able to turn in his homework yesterday. I know it is something of an odd thing to happen, but I'm sure you recall yesterday's unpleasantness. Unfortunately, while we were out to dinner, a battlemech stepped on our house. Jimmy's homework was lost in the debris. I am sure that if you can see it in your heart to allow it, he will be glad to rewrite it.
Thank You,
Bethany Qua
Dear Miss Qua,
I suspect you are unaware of our new computer system upgrades donated by Cy-Lon Industries to the school. Including a 'cloud based' data storage system for homework assignments and submitting them. The regrettable destruction of your home terminal did not render unrecoverable young Jimmy's homework. I even pulled up his work folder with my administrative access, and it is all right there. And looks exactly like three other students' work, that I suspect Jimmy hadn't had time to rework to appear different. Attached is a list of scheduled times to come see me for a parent-teacher conference to discuss with Jimmy this incident.
Respectfully yours,
Mrs Linh Helgemayer.
Heh... it's not just the one Cavil that doesn't get it... ^-^Or he does, and is trying to nip it in the bud before it spreads
Heh... it's not just the one Cavil that doesn't get it... ^-^it's endemic to his model line. as i mentioned earlier in describing cylon voting, individuals within a model line don't usually vary much. i suspect this is because that they each receive a pre-packaged personality (either a baseline for their model or more likely an amalgamation of the model line's archived experiences) when they are "produced".
i suspect the Falcons will get the "honor", just in keeping with the usual kowloon meta-story. of course, this kowloon has barely begun its army overhaul and uparming process, so the attack will probably play out differently in details (if not in outcome).
on the otherhand, they have the cylon republic watching their backs, the Cavil's nutjobs are on their way as well (what do you want to bet they arrive around the same time?), and the wolverines might be able to provide a bit of assistance on the sly.
what model of warship was the SLS Belleau Wood, and was it ever said what happened to it in the other renditions of the 'loonieverse? what are the odds that it entered clan service and will be making a serendipitous return visit soon?
"They will welcome liberation."
To be fair, they don't know everything. They certainly don't know the that their glorious ilkhan may have... arranged things so that the situation will blow up in their face.More to the point, that he failed to orchestrate sending the Clan he wanted to send. Vipers being Vipers, they didn't let the Jade Falcons step on that land-mine out of some misplaced competitive urge. Kerensky's setup would have been more reliably executed if the Vipers weren't so damned contrarian, first by openly doubting the threat, and then by bidding sharply to be teh ones to disprove it.
Plus the Vipers seem to always to get hit with the stupid stick. both in canon and fanfics.I prefer to think "Naive", or "Idealistic", rather than outright stupid. Their ideals might be enough reason for most of the Inner Sphere to (once understood) want to shoot them in the face, but their laser-focus on being good at fighting (and with those marksmanship and piloting skills, they really should be good at fighting.) The problem is their lazer focus on individual excellence rather in that way that you only get in the Hothouse of competitive sport fighting. A viper would rock the sox on Solaris, but as soldiers they're maybe not so great.
*snip*He CAN learn! :D
His heart felt like it would stop.
What glorious things the AFFC could do with a Potemkin. Smart keeping the Droppers, best way to enlarge your merchant fleet and/or augment the KCGM. Turn some of the Clan Droppers into pocket warships or whatever. Miss Ngo is thinking, there's always profit in war. She'd make a fine Ferengi as she follows Rule 34 of the Rules of Acquisition.
Karl walked into that interview under prepared on who Elizabeth really was...
I think even Maggie Doons has underestimated Liz... I give it 50/50 odds at BEST that Melissa can "sit on her".
I can imagine Melissa being confused why all the different opinions on Elizabeth. i.e. Doons, Morgan, Hanse, Rowe, her military and her intelligence services.
Would she trust Doons and Rowe since they have or had personal relationships with Elizabeth or the so-called professionals or her family?
IF we forgive only those who deserve it, then we have nothing to forgive, for the deserving have done nothing wrong.
Did not see that coming.....
Nice to see the knife in hand bit reused, but set me up for the accept warden wolves bit.

Question: how - in 'game' terms - does a Centurion compare to an Elemental?
I'm suspecting 3MP, no jump, and I'm inclined to treat them as light armour, but with more space for equipment. And yes, I can see heavy & assault Centurions in the works.
Any particular reason you’ve moved the Wolves Exile forward five years or so?
Edit: and didn’t Liz’s speech in previous versions argue AGAINST accepting the WiE into the Commonwealth?
I definitely read that speech as ripping Phelan up one side and down the other. It does make me wonder if she might eventually forgive her other brother after all...Phelan was politics, not personal
But if she treats her brother differently, that will have political consequences...Only if her brother defects from the jade falcons and seeks asylum.
Only if her brother defects from the jade falcons and seeks asylum.Wasn't her brother killed by the Loki team spent to retrieve him?
Her speech covers her brother staying clan.. Unlike phelan and his wolves, her brother is not taking the first step to show the desire to change, thus has not earned a chance at forgiveness. Yet.
aww, guys, you give me SUCH bad ideas.
Verses the legal heir backed by Galaxy of Falcon's finest. Yeah, messy
But we'll see what Cannonshop has up his sleeve.
You misspelled that. "Collaborator" backed by a Galaxy of Jade Falcons vs the Legal Heir. It might not be just Liz that considers Peter her only brother if what Henry did gets out to the public. Though I'm surprised he and other Freebirths weren't shoved into the front of the fighting to absorb casualties and Wolf munitions first.
Liz already declared Evelynn Mosovich her heir. Remember Liz is very much into contigency planning, including her disease progresses faster than the best case scenario. Her doctor already upped her meds earlier than estimated.
As opposed to " 'Liz the Usurper"? Henry was a prisoner when she "assumed" the title, and her forgiving Phelan did not help her case. And its not like he has had a chance to go before the Archon to be anointed, or declare an heir. But he can live long to father one. Nor has he legally abdicated the title.
All this would have been easier if the Loki team did kill him. But all of this is just guessing untill Cannonshop writes the next part.
Part of that depends on how understanding/forgiving Melissa is though. Once captured and actively fighting for an enemy she'd be well within her rights as the liege lord to vacate the title and give it to 'Liz wholesale.
The Estates General probably wouldn't even balk at such a move as they'd figure it'd be easier to try and take advantage of 'Liz even knowing what she's done and likely to do if they cross any lines.
But if they just use their superior experience to just out play her in making some deals there wouldn't be much 'Liz could do but fume.
“I can cure you of your illness: all you need to do is surrender your world to my Clan.”I approve of this post. This is a very Liz thing to say.
“... screw you. I’d rather die in agony and insanity than submit my people to your authority, and even if I was stupid enough to agree, my own people would lynch me. We’ll take that cure when we run your barbarian horde to ground, hang your leadership and free your slaves.”
Henry is by definition a traitor to the realm. He is coming not as a supplicant as Phelan did, requesting aid and forgiveness and bringing his clan to ally with the realm. He is coming as a Falcon loyalist, expecting to use his claim to the Duchy to transfer the planet's allegiance to the Clan. Lawfully, his claim to the title is attainted and forfeit the moment he swore his loyalty to the Falcons.
And, importantly, he should know this.
Not quite. The moment it becomes public that he's turned, it's over -- his claim is gone.
Traitors to realms don't always have their titles vacated by their liege Lords in Battletech.Except Kowloon, as I understand it, still has a civilian, elected government who have to approve the Duke/Duchess. I would imagine treason invalidates ones candidacy, at least on Kowloon.
Henry's got the advantage that even if it has been stripped from him if something did happen to 'Liz it wouldn't be out of the question for people to dispute succession and challenge 'Liz's will on grounds of mental health being impacted due to the narcotics she has to take for her Cholman's and nominate Henry just because it is his birthright on the hopes that like Phelan he can be returned to the service of the realm.
or make sure they catch a case of the quick acting Russian Lead Flu (144 grains at 600+ m/sec)Yeah, sudden onset lead poisoning is a bitch
The original cylons STILL don't get it... ::)
I really want to see how the internal MRBC politics play out over this... >:DProbably enough paperwork to crash an Atlas
Probably enough paperwork to crash an AtlasCertainly that, but also some serious arguments between various factions... ^-^
I'm thinking it was the wolverines... ^-^i find myself thinking it wasn't. the wolverine's use fighters that the Falcon's would recognize, while the performance described would be higher than you'd get with Raptors and Vipers. nor do i think that the wolverines would target civilians in that manner, or strike targets that close to civilian facilities.
I'm pretty sure Liz will slash his throat at the first opportunity.
And now that I've seen more of the attacks, I agree... New Circe hit the Jags and Bears, while Cavil's people hit the Wolves and Falcons. What a mess!
"And she threatened to kill me. If she were a Clan warrior I would be so turned on by her you can't even imagine." Nathan said brightly, "She is adorable, like those little creatures that drop on humanoids and tear through helmet and skull to eat the brain inside!"
And we have a new competitor for the "Completely Missing The Point Award, 30..."
What year are we in again?
*legitimately laughs out loud at the idea that someone, anyone, could "tame and civilize" Kowloon if they didn't want to be.*
Technically, one could say Liz did that. But Kowloon, unlike Condit & Stonecipher, mostly wanted it, so.I think it's a case of them being curious to see where she's going with her grand plans, safe in the knowledge that she'll be dead in a few decades at most.
And Cannonshop is kicking FASAnomics in the teeth a lot on top of that.I once had someone call me out for the "impossibility" of having a planet with several billion inhabitants field an actual Division, as in three Brigades, as a standing military, along with another two Brigades of militia (mostly second-line and conventional forces). So I pulled out the maths and showed them how, proportionally, the planet actually had a smaller military than the 21st century United States.

If you're willing to standardise everything you can, even a minor world should be able to support a massive amount of infantry and armour. And while, unit for unit, they may not be able to stand up to BattleMechs, quantity has a quality of its own, especially well motivated...
I know stats for the Patton were posted in an earlier thread, I just don't remember which one. It was probably one of the v2 or v3 threads.
Just remember, last run-through? She married him.Uh, that was Morgan Icaza, not Nathan Roshak. I’m moderately sure Roshak didn’t survive the Falcon attempt to take Kowloon in that timeline — and I can’t say I like his chances in this one....
And what camo scheme does the Militia use? I'm thinking a Kowloon battalion would make a nice entry in my AU category ...Past materials like For the Liberty of Others have referred to ‘sand and spinach’ camo, so my own mental pictures defaults to something like the USAF South-East Asia scheme (https://www.cybermodeler.com/aircraft/f-4/images/f-4_profile02t.png (https://www.cybermodeler.com/aircraft/f-4/images/f-4_profile02t.png)). Ground vehicles and ’Mechs likely forego the haze-grey underside.
IIRC the primary change was swapping the auto cannon for a PPC. Obviously the hull would need considerable modification for hauling troops IRL.As I recall, the turret and crew compartment were shifted to the sides to allow for forward and rear infantry ramps for rapid deployment of the embarked troops: apparently it looked kooky, but could move large numbers of troops to keep up with the main battle tanks.
Here it is, Link (https://bg.battletech.com/forums/index.php?topic=32957.0).
Thanks! Interesting, & makes sense. I'd have tried to reach for the extra tonnage to get 4 tons - I suppose it'd be simple to drop the small laser, to fit squads of Centurions ;)
BTW, do the Centurions form up in squads of 4, or some other number?
yes, they deploy in fireteams of four with one fireteam per 11 man infantry squad.Yeah, when those infantry rules with their ‘mechanised infantry vehicles’ came out I mostly ignored them in favour of foot platoons mounted in conventional APCs.
3 squads make 1 platoon.
3 platoons make 1 company.
mixes adjust by mission type, naturally, but generally 4 centurions are backing up every 7 infantrymen. with IFV deployment this ends up with 2 IFV's per squad. Air assault is with de-jumped raptor variants serving as the 'slicks' for helo borne infantry (Airmobile units) and the percentage of light infantry is higher in those units, with a dedicated "Cylon Squad" of 12 centurions as the heavy weapons section for those platoons.
no, you probably can't model these as Battletech "Mechanized platoons" as the organic vehicles are all a lot heavier and capable of serving as combat units of their own.

Commerce raiding in support of a broad based strategy works.
I hope Liz and the AFFC pull it off.
So, wait, Nicole is turning herself into a Hybrid? That's... more than a little nuts.
You don't have AP Mounts for the infantry weapons. If you add them they'll validate correctly.says i have to place crits for the prototype armor.. but no crits for prototype armor appear in the list to be placed.
"The Archon and her husband" says everything we need to know about how Liz views her rulers... ^-^She's a Lyran, through and through

The fact that they *needed* help, combined with help actually *coming*, are the only bits of leverage Hanse and Melissa really need to exert over Kowloon and Elizabeth. This is the thing: loyalty in a feudal system goes both ways. The people at the top need to step in and protect the ones below them, no matter how far down, or how much they may personally despise them, because that's how the system works.
Showing that they, as feudal lords, will execute their duties on behalf of Kowloon diligently, is sufficient to make a point to Elizabeth, and probably the most *effective* way to keep and reinforce her loyalty besides.
Points for originality, but fail on reading the room.
Also, anyone else think Arthur has a crush on Liz? If they do find a way to "fix" her, I could see Melissa playing matchmaker...
There are WORSE potential matches out there, I've explored more than a few of them in past versions, some with the cure, some without. I think Arthur's just being...smart. I doubt he'd have a crush on her beyond that white-knight urge some guys get in their teens. If i were betting on crushes, he might have one for her Blonde assistant (The various Ginas) or, if he digs asiatic looking women, the Sharon line. You're the author, so I'm not going to question your stance, but between his conversion with Jack & Nick (including asking if they'd seen her naked), and wanting to help Liz now... it's a direction you could go
then again, he might be digging the Goth-grrl look and Liz does seem to rock that to an extent.
We came to liberate the Star League from the unlawful tyranny of a Usurper, only to discover the true depths that men can go. Genocide is a crime, it is a crime against nature, it is a crime against civilization, and it is a crime against humanity.
Genocide, is the systematic, deliberate and premeditated extermination of a people. It may be motivated by many things-a desire for revenge, or resources, a desire to impose a system, or to eliminate it. In ALL cases, it is a fundamental violation of the very spirit of the Star League, it is abomination, a crime to be punished, to be prevented. The victims of attempted genocide are to be avenged, not oppressed, and their thirst for Justice must be supported. This is a fundamental value, without it, we are become no better than that which we fight.
We are here, to uphold and support, to protect the Star League, and to avenge those whom have been wronged by the actions of our opponents. The Light of the Star League is not the spotlight of a death camp, nor can we long tolerate such and remain in keeping with our oaths as officers and soldiers of mankind's best chance and last hope of salvation.
This must never be permitted to happen again, to anyone, for any rationalization, no matter how compelling it may appear to be in the heat of the moment.
The voices of the murdered are not silent now. The victims did not die in vain.
In short, Never Again.
The War criminals will be pursued, they will not be able to hide.
Never Again.
We will never allow this to happen again.
it is my pledge, and on my honour, and on the honour of every officer serving under me, we will not permit this sort of horror to be perpetrated.

One "wrong" keystroke, and she's Archon-Princess...
Archon-Prince, and legitimately.Didn't canon Kathy style herself "Archon-Princess"?
The title of First Pricnce was without gender.
Although, she could be a Willie Keith...
Didn't canon Kathy style herself "Archon-Princess"?yes, though partly that was because she wasn't eligible to be First Prince. she was reigning as a regent, but wanted to sound like she was the legitimate ruler.
Because, you know, crazy ego and all...

"What are you going to do?"
"I'm going to break them with it."
Bracing for a Cannonshop rebuttal... :oIn all honesty, I'd be interested to read his take on the man and his legacy
Kerensky's characterization suffers heavily from canon incoherence. You literally cannot have him be what he's 'directly' depicted as in canon, because there's so much contradictory stuff going on, so he's ultimately forced to be subject to whatever fanon interpretation a person prefers to come up with based on which parts of canon they emphasize, and which they discard as bad writing.
In all honesty, I'd be interested to read his take on the man and his legacy
but how often do men fail to live up to their ideals? It takes a pretty low bar for someone to fit perfectly into the mold of their beliefs. To be honest, your ideals must be paltry indeed, for you to achieve them in all of your actions. the only time High Ideals are reached by mortals, is in fiction.
I was more referring to him being depicted as a competent general, but failing to do basic things like send scouts into the Hegemony to ascertain if the SDS was offline or not, instead giving Amaris years to get it online.
Or him jumping ships carrying ground forces into the Sol System during the *first* wave of the assault.
Things that senior NCOs would be smacking butterbars not to do on their first deployments.
Also, does this board ask me to prove I'm not a robot every single time I post, or does that leave off after a certain post count?

A fun AU would be Kerensky getting a Christmas Carol styleIn the vein of Davion and Davion (Deceased)? Hoo, boy. It’d depend on what he was told, and when, and how much he can do about it. The problem is that once Simon Cameron dies, the SL Council will still make Aleks Regent for Dick but deny him the ability to act like it (because they still want to use the power-vacuum for their own ends). That will leave the field open for the Fat Man to sink his hooks into Little Dick, in which case it’s too late for the Star League: the coup has been generations in the making, and Stefan getting to warp the young Cameron’s mind just tied a bow around it all.

And no matter how much fore-knowledge he has, I just can’t see Aleksandr approving Stefan’s assassination until he’s exhausted all other options... which will probably be at too late a junction to make any real difference. And even that would assume that killing S.U. Amaris is enough to prevent the Coup, which isn’t something I’d be sanguine about going with.

Liz sure doesn't believe in half measures. I'm pretty sure that her invitation will be taken up quite eagerly by her invitees. She is after all on a very tight schedule...
The right tools for the right job.
The Clanners are really big kids, you need a really big ruler to thwack them with in order to get their attention.

I think between the cyclons available tech and the SDS drone ship in Wolverine space, and possibly with information from the derelict found by the explorer, the Space Elves, they will be able to develop a means to do it....getting Liz's mind transferred over to a cyclon human form Elizabeth Ngo......
Eh, what?? ???
"We have screens." Giao said, "Windows present opportunities for people to fly their fighters through your command center, I'm given to understand you guys stopped your invasion for a year because somebody parked a Shilone in the bridge of your flagship by making a door through the big, pretty picture windows." she gestured, "I use a periscope if I need a direct view outside. it's a bit harder to ****** up."
Actually the US Virginia class submarines got rid of the traditional periscope. What they have in its place is effectively a digital camera on the end of an extendable mast. It makes handling pressures easier not having to run a tube out of the pressure hull and through the sail, and makes the mast harder to pick up. Though they have been putting shrouds on them to mimic a more conventional periscope, since the return and appearance is unique enough to tag the boat as a Virginia if it is spotted.
I can't wait to see the look on Liz's face when Melissa says yes >:D
I can’t believe he thinks the Khans would accept this: even the ‘smarter’ Crusader Khans want to become permenant ilKhan and essentially First Lord. They don’t just want to recreate the SL, they expect to rule it. Any home grown League without them is patently false, a sham and a mockery of the Glorious Futere under Clan rule.It keeps the Clans fixated on a planet above the truce line. A self-sufficient planet that has already proved it can smack an entire Galaxy around before they make planet fall. A planet that's in the middle of a gravitational minefield that makes feeding in additional troops difficult to say the least, and has an abundance of space-based defences and strong points.
Honestly? Melissa has very little incentive to say yes: she’s still a Lyran, and knows a bad deal when she sees it.

She's also aware that the powers of the Inner Sphere are really, really experienced at making wholesale slaughter-the very thing Nick's rules of warfare were meant to prevent, and they have a history of doing so, especially when united, and finally, the last game changer, is that the Star League has been reformed. a mutant, evil, dark star league from her perspective, but it means infighting and mutual suspicion aren't going to be working to the advantage of the Clans when, not if, this new Star League, with thousands more factories and a vastly superior population base to send, come knocking with attack ships that can be on top of your bases or capitals before the detection grids even hint they're on the way.
of course, the second course is when the spicy heat of the first really hit, and between the two, it became a contest to eat more without taking a drink to ease the burning their mouths.Oh, please tell me they're stupid enough to reach for a glass of water >:D
The food was good. peering up, she saw and was comforted to see the Not-Named were having similar reluctance with their meals. fine, I will eat to insult you.
after a few moments, she found her eyes locked on the eyes of a woman across the floor, a Wolverine officer with naval tabs, who apparently came to the same conclusion, creating a sort of staring and eating contest between them, each devouring portions with more intensity.
I eat your heart you bitch..for Dehra Dun's sake and memory, I devour you...

I really think Liz could have just nuked them in orbit. That jump in, nuke 'em, jump out tactic is a killer. Honestly, she erred in letting them on planet at all. They would have been easier to control at a Rockjack facility. She's looking to win the war, not a single battle
How much fleet would the clans really have left if she wiped out this wave, though?
Quite a bit... I came across a good dozen-plus Potemkins alone, looking up where the Belleau Wood might have gone, and they still have most of the old SLDFN ships in mothballs.Trained crews might be a problem, even if they call up Merchants
In front of her khan, too... ::)
To be fair here, we're talking about a fist fight between an Aeropilot phenotype, and a small framed, asian teenage girl. it's about as even as you can get in terms of physical stats. It came down to a couple factors;
1. Liz is in Stage Two-means she's got a delayed shock reaction, and an extreme pain tolerance because she hurts all the time. Mix with the personality and you've got a fighter, who will be undoubtedly uncomfortable for a longer than normal time, but hard to incapacitate with injuries, powered by days-to-weeks of suppressed rage.
2. Harper isn't. she's normal. her first kick would have at least made a normal person rethink what they were doing. her mistake was picking a brawl with someone who wouldn't go down and might not even react to broken bones. the modern equivalent might be seen as picking a fight with someone on PCP.
I never imagined it was fair. I can't believe Harper watched the video of Liz at 11 and still picked that fight. Pilots aren't supposed to be that stupid...
Evelynn's a much better choice to run a meeting... :)
And if anyone gets too stuborn, she can offer to postpone things till they can deal with Dutchess Ngo, again. >:D
Though her cybernetics might be freaking the Kobolians hard.
Thought what would Captain Kara Thrace think of Liz Ngo?
Thought what would Captain Kara Thrace think of Liz Ngo?"I don't remember having a kid..."
It wasn't the Fourth Royal Guards, after all, that nuked the better part of a Clan Galaxy in their dropships on the way in, killing comrades without giving them the chance to fight back, using technological superiority to destroy a largely unaware foe with stunning efficiency.
So when do we get to see the 171st's trip to avenge Kentares?
You CAN'T drop that tidbit with no follow-up >:D
I wonder if Liz has any clue as to the sheer effect she has had on the Cylons she has been associating with. They seem to have literally imprinted on her. Talk about charisma...
Also the intra Cylon model network is probably giving the Cavils ulcers...
That last exchange- in some ways, they aren't too different from perceptive Inner Sphere Officers. They can look and make ideas, but the Brass had made it's decisions, and they have to implement.the difference is that in the clan system, those officers don't have to worry about non-military issues until they reach the level of being or working directly for a Khan as staff.
Often poorly.
she reached to her briefcase, and held the document up, "Because of this, I will do this thing. Some burdens do follow from one generation to the next. The last time the 171st took the field, it was violating the orders of the Archon, they waged war in reply to Shiro Kurita's attempted genocide at Kentares IV, because they believed in this. They rode to the aid of an enemy state, to stop a genocide, and they almost made it. how could I do less? especially with so many more 'honorable' others refusing even to look or consider?"I suspect you mean Jinjiro. The only Shiro Kurita who springs to mind was the 24th century founder of the Combine.
it. Ended. Badly.

"Incidentally, does anyone in the room happen to know a really good lawyer that specialises in patent infringement?" Captain Ferry called out loudly as people started getting out of their chairs. "Just a random question you understand, no particular reason for asking" he said as deadpan as he could before peals of laughter started echoing around the building.

attempting to replicate the 21b social control virus, Ellen?well, i suspect that if/when the scientists end up working for Kowloon, one will quickly be rearrested.
well, Archon-Prince. Victor was the Archon now. Melissa officially stepped down in his favor this week.
HIS first act was to offer her the option of either falling into line with the Militia Acts, or accepting the role of Theater Margrave and becoming responsible for the protection of nearly a dozen nearby worlds, paying half the cost to arm, equip, and train the self-defense forces and provide a "Kowloon Theater Militia" covering the expense of twelve RCT-sized formations.
Half of that cost would be carried by the AFFC, but she had to fund the other half, either locally through taxation, or out of pocket. Ten of those worlds couldn't have supported a battalion without collapsing their already fragile economies.
"The...runt...wants to break me." Liz said, "or his advisors do. These balance sheets are a mess, there is so much red ink here that shouldn't be, I'm wondering if he's hoping I break out the stakes and a postholer. It'll take a ****** lifetime to clean out the dead-weight and get this mess in order."
"But you think it can be done?"
Liz nodded. "Yeah. I think so. done and under budget...christ. this is a ****** mess...Jack, bring me the green phone, I might as well get this over with-now that I've got legal cover to do it."
I can see where Nathan is going with that ...David Attenborough voice over: "And here we have the courting display of the Jade Falcon Trueborn Warrior..." ;)
David Attenborough voice over: "And here we have the courting display of the Jade Falcon Trueborn Warrior..." ;)It's telling that I automatically read that in his voice
Given Melissa is probably one of those advisers? I think in part Victor seen what she could get for her budget, and is looking to see her clear out the deadwood and inefficiencies. Even if the AFFC half is the battlemech regiments and Kowloon raising most of the conventional forces?not to mention i bet that Victor knows that the dirty dealing of the sort Condit was doing is common out in the periphery districts of the fedcom, and is hoping she and her intel teams will help clean it up.
It's about time Liz got some more responsibility... too bad she's falling for Roshak's nonsense...
Rooting for Archonette Ngo, here. :)Sounds nice in theory, but that path led to a civil war in at least one timeline, thanks mainly to the mental defects of the Steiner-Davion in charge, and it majorly contributed to the outright secession of the plague worlds in the Arluna Flu timeline(s) as well. She’s achieved all that she has by being honest and efficient, two things that are alien and anathema to the graft and peculation that are the lifeblood of most of the Lyran nobility, and her rivals have refined chopping down tall poppies to an art-form.
that's why i figure him giving her the whole region to manage is him wanting her to cut out that deadweight. then he can point to the Kowloon region of the Lyran state as an example of good management and start working on reforms across the lyran and davion states using policies she proved work. It’s a wonderful ideal to work towards, but I think you miss my point. Victor can campaign for reform all he likes, Liz can be his shining example of the benefits of integrity and good management, but in the end they’re both trying to fix a system that will actively resist being fixed, because too many people with too much power will profit too much by keeping it busted and will lose too much if it gets fixed.

They want to make this a party, we will party harder than they can even concieve. Am I understood?"And upon that day was born the mighty Jade Falcon battle-cry, "TOGA! TOGA! TOGA!"
it wasn't until he was walking out into the light of Kowloon's double suns, that it really sank in for him. I can go anywhere! the benefits packages and the payment were enticements, because they knew he could go anywhere to work. No work assignment, no begging a Clan Council for dispensations, no having to manipulate some department head, no fearing for his life for speaking to someone from another Clan.
I can go anywhere I want!!
he paused mid-step. anywhere I can afford. But I suspect with my skills and knowledge, I can get that paid for as well.
He didn't need the Society to do it, or ask some geneticist who knew nothing about physics to do it.
He was free.
"Reputation is what other people know about you. Honor is what you know about yourself."
In Liz, they're one and the same.
"Ah, what are you looking for?" she asked.
"Sheet plastic." he said nervously.
I recall seeing explicit mention at one point that captured hardware had issues because they couldn't fit things to the omni connectors because the other end wasn't set up for them. (I just forget which end it was....)the first gen omni's exported from the Combine didn't have the connector ports to work with Clan weapons pods. First gen omnimechs shipped to the DCMS however did, despite walking off the exact same lines. it understandably was a sore point for the other nations fighting the clans who were buying those first gen omni's.

As for Omnis... there are pros and cons there.
Pro: So long as you have the right modules, it makes a lot of things easy.
Con: If you don't have the right modules...

unknown to him, Diana Warren, was a Three. a Humaniform Cylon employed by the newly established office of Service Audit for the Kowloon Theater March Militia. and she remembered very well what they did to her, and it counted for a lot that she was willing to let the human justice system deal with these men.
being crushed and 'chipped' to death hurt, being raped by twelve men in her quarters? that was much worse. It made airlocking seem somewhat less awful.
Remembering Elbar: an anniversary retrospective of the Liberation of Running Deer Mountain and the Crimes of the Rim Worlds Republic
Quite literally playing devil's advocate here, but you could build a defence case that "killing" a Cylon shouldn't count as murder, as they resurrect. Assault, sure: probably even assault with a deadly weapon, GBH and a whole host of other crimes, but murder? Hard to calk it that when the victim is in court, giving evidence, alive and well.
Prosecution would probably have to prove that the accused had no idea that the victim wouldn't stay dead, and that comes down to how open they've been on the tech.
Not saying it would be something I'd personally support, but it's something a good layer might try and spin to keep a high paying client from dancing the Tyburn Jig.
As a side-bar, Liz needs to talk to Ray about angels, and how you only get one...
In short, this guy is boned no matter who takes his case.

I’m seeing a cultural side to this that you may not be considering. While the devil’s advocate approach might work in other areas, you have to consider that Kowloon was settled by people who literally believe that even though a body may die, the soul remains, therefore the fact that a Cylon can “resurrect” is irrelevant, since they would view the murder of even a normal human as consisting of the destruction of the body, not their soul.If you're high enough up the food chain, it would be kicked upstairs to Victor, and he's more of a pragmatist. That and there is the question of jurisdiction: is it under Kowloon law or not?
In short, this guy is boned no matter who takes his case.
Attempted murder, just because they refuse to stay dead did not mean it was not attempted.
You could probably argue ‘attempted murder’, if the accused didn’t know he was ‘killing’ a Cylon. “I have no intention of letting the accused go free, simply because they failed in their attempt to kill this citizen.Agreed, but again, I'm talking legal technicalities here
The first, most important statement in all of scientific development, is "I do not know". The follow on to this, is the second most important directive in science: "Let's find out". Without those two, all of your work as a scientist is essentially the work of a technician, a cook, following a recipe blazed by someone else who does say "I don't Know, Let's Find Out".

no, they should tag-team a leoben and a centurion to mentally break them down. the leoben's because they're good at getting under people's skins, the centurion to be "good cop" and know exactly where the process has to stop to stay within the law.

"Then I decide if the mission had merit or not." Victor stated. "If it did, no harm, no foul." then he smiled, and his smile could cut glass. So, have we ever gotten stats on those weapons and birds, and if we have can someone point me at them?
Because I really want to see what those things Stat out as.

"Aye sir."

"...Brotherhood of Cincinnatus. We've got confirmation, we just need to decide whether to release the information."
Victor nodded, "I want them arrested...hell, I want them gone. what's the word from kowloon?"
"Their suspect is still alive, your Majesty. Listen, we need to move on this, there's no telling when the slippery bastards will-"
Alexi Mallory spoke. "It's too late. They know."
"You can't be sure of that, we only JUST cracked-" General Stephenson was about to argue.
Alexi gestured to a viewer, "They know, and they're already taking actions."
Victor scowled, "Get me ahead of it...get me Evelynn Mosovich, those aren't Coast Guard troops."

You know, I think a truce between Clans, Wolverines, Inner Sphere and that guy on 1st avenue is pretty easy--Because all anyone has to do is ask: When Cavil's happy band get tired of playing, how many worlds can a base star with jump capable raiders carrying nukes destroy in a month?first they gotta convince the Clans and the IS that Cavil's bunch exists and is separate from the bunch working with kowloon. the IS i suspect won't take much convincing, since ideological splits are something they understand pretty well, so it would just be a case of providing sufficient evidence. the Clans might take longer. especially since dealing with Cavil will require working alongside the Wolverines and the friendly Cylons, two groups that the Clans as a society have been indoctrinated to hate and distrust. (wolverines specifically, cylons as part of the distrust of the idea of advanced AI)
Everyone else may have goals that people don't like (conquer the IS, found the Star League, etc, etc, ) but Cavil is the guy with the 30 billion plus bodycount and the clear desire to eliminate humanity as a species.

Well, there's going to be an aisle involved somewhere, I'm sure. ;)

I'm thinking the shotgun will be wielded by someone named "Steiner-Davion", actually... ^-^

While I have little doubt Cannonshop will resolve it as well as is reasonably able, having an evil robotic swarm go full Von Neumann is kind of terrible storytelling.
It's not just an inhuman threat, it's an unbeatable threat. The only way you can deal with it is some kind of arbitrary plot device or another. It narrows the drama of the story down to a single point, and beyond that, one which is clearly going to be handled more by author fiat than anything else.
Even that kind of plot device can be decently handled; throwing the One Ring into Mount Doom, for example, because while difficult, it is a matter of great toil and struggle to reach the point where that objective can be accomplished.
With something like this, it is so clearly going to be 'And then some piece of advanced tech solves the problem.'
Making an external threat so great that it's functionally impossible to overcome by human means dehumanizes the struggles of the characters.
Still, it's the great pathos of the story I'm here for, not the details of a given arc.
just remember, Jason Riverson's only human, and while he's had a hell of a run of getting it right, nobody is entirely right all the time.
As I understand it, the Cylons are effectively linked into a peer-to-peer network. As the number of units linked with the network increases, the size and complexity of the network grows exponentially - every single unit added means a number of additional links equal to the number of units already in the network. The total processing power, on the other hand, only increases in a linear fashion.
That would suggest an upper limit somewhere for how big the Cylon network can become (i.e. how many Cylons there can be in total) before all its processing power is devoted to the network and nothing is left for peripheral functions like committing genocide against humanity.
My understanding of networks are limited, but I would like to adventure a guess that after a certain number of Cylons, each would become its own node with a Model 1 Cylon in control, and the network to coordinate said forces would consist of 1s, and spreading out from them to their forces....

I wonder what economic deals can Liz do with the combine if the coordinator had brought his cousin chandreskar kurita (aka Uncle Chandy)
Assuming they have their naval yards sorted at Gibson and a few other places,Gibson is deep inside the FWL. i highly doubt it would be in capellan hands or producing capellan battleships. (i'm also fairly certain it doesn't have a shipyard)
Dude,
That's a book in itself, Chandy and Liz would be a partnership from hell,
I would lay money that he has a couple of Miles full of missiles waiting for a deal
Also how old is little Hera (Athenas half cylon daughter) by now? Because i can imagine her as a mighty wolverine mechwarrior (in a upgraded centurion mech).
She's got that many in one of her smaller nuclear stockpiles. 'Eat weaponized u-235, you Clanner bastards!'BT wouldn't even need U-235, or even Pu-239.

A big capacitor laser and a container of hydrogen. Makes a nice big fusion explosion with out the pesky radioactives.
So pure fusion warheads have the advantage at smaller scales (down to 5 decaton satchel charges) and the fact that you don't need uranium to build them, while fission initiated warheads have the advantage in weight at strategic yields.
And Kowloon has an extensive history of work with fission devices and power supplies, and apparently plentiful fissionables in their asteroid belts.

Oh (expletive deleted)... even the WORD OF BLAKE is getting reasonable.no, they just remembered maxim 29. The enemy of my enemy is my enemy's enemy. No more. No less.
Nice story update! I wonder if there was a way to direct the destroyed imperial Cylon raiders to another resurrection hub that would be in control of the other Cylon faction?
"...a repayment for a kindness shown once in Arcadia"I'm sure that the people still living on Alshain aren't too bothered about that particular debt of honour being repaid.
I definitely want to see a Taurian response to a cylon attack... 8)The Taurian Concordat: where they play the 1812 Overture with nukes
One issue that needs to be addressed is prolifrating colonial jump drive. Because the rest of the IS needs it, ASAP. As long as they don't have it, the imperial cylons can just jump into a system, let the IS forces jump in--and then leave, confident that they now have a weeks window to slaughter people in every other system.Well proliferating the drive also requires proliferating the tylium mining, refining and support infrastructure. Tylium is tricky stuff. I can see whole new industries and corporations setting up to support it in the Inner Sphere. In fact the logistical limitations of Tylium drives mean that they will not completely supplant the KF drives in military or civilian use. Raiding the Cylon fueling operations has been a tactic used by the Wolverines way back in hunted tribes. It may also be what slows down the Cylon Imperiums offensive later on.
Granted, this is one of the Wolverine's big advantages, but I think at this point, everyone should agree that "who wins our squabbles" is a fourth quarter problem, for which you must survive the current quarter.
and now we get to the point where Cannonshop mugs FASAnomics in a dark alley. One thing to remember about FASAnomics in regard to a planets military. The combination of Battlemechs and dropships means that an invading enemy can do to a much larger planet military force what the cylons are doing to the clanners in space. You can have enough tanks and infantry to shoot the hell out of your foe ten times over but if their mech forces keep smashing key targets and then buggering off to another part of the planet before your tanks and infantry can get there well that is a problem. So your own mech forces in dropships are likely key to reinforcing those areas fast since mechs can just jump out of a dropship embarking and disembarking faster than heavy armor.
19 Founding Clans? Shouldn't that be 20?
Oh that can't possibly end badly... ::)
So the best way of beating Pryde's play is not to play by Clanner rules at all. Make Roshak voluntarily defect?and Marthe still wins, by exposing Elizabeth's hypocrisy-to Elizabeth. Marthe Pryde's not blind, and she's got pretty good information on Liz. Elizabeth's constant insistence it's a relationship founded on vendetta instead of love, when it's obvious enough that even the bleeping robots are shipping those two and discussing possible wedding plans?
As someone who is hard of hearing, to the point I have a bone anchored hearing aid or I'd not be able to hear 90% of what goes on around me. I thank you for this chapter.
"ONE thing I have learned in seven years in the Inner Sphere, seeing excellent, loyal warriors like Nathan Roshak drifting away, we can not change them, without changing ourselves. I want a handle on how that change happens lest we end up something savashri a few generations down the line, something dezgra and even evil. whichever Clan becomes IlClan, will need to be able to manage trillions of people without being overwhelmed by so many they run out of bullets and overheat their lasers before running out of foes, and without losing at least the grasp of the concept of Honor."
So... the Wolf OZ is back in the FC, then? ???By the sounds of it, although probably with a great deal of local autonomy until full (re)integration can be negotiated.
I've seen this guy's name mentioned a few times... glad to finally get to see him in action... :)It should prove to be... educational.
Liz wins again, no matter what Pryde thinks... ^-^
She can claim (whether Liz agrees or not) that Liz accepted the trial system. I don't agree either, but I can see other clan types thinking so...
Does anyone see what Marthe's game is now??By being the first Khan to cross the floor, she's taken the moral high-ground, and positioned herself, and her Clan, to be the representative between the Clans and the new Star League.
consider the following:
What is leadership?
What is the purpose of the position of IlKhan?
What does it mean to be a Crusader (not an idiot, not someone looking for a cheap land-grab. the PHILOSOPHICAL purpose of the Great Crusade and Operation:Revival)?
THIS is why Marthe Pryde didn't need Liz Ngo to lose in order to win.
I suspect Phelan will give her a run for her money...He's got his hands full putting Clan Wolf back together
I suspect Phelan will give her a run for her money...But Marthe has actively demonstrated leadership on this issue, and made the first moves towards a united front. The other Clans have followed her example in rallying to the banner. If Phelan tries to challenge that, he’s going to have to show up to the conference himself (as history is made by them what turn up) and overcome that advantage, in which case he’ll be fighting uphill against a perceived incumbent. (And note that Vlad quietly discussed the matter with her, then let her do this. Wanna bet it was because he figured ‘better a Trueborn Crusader Falcon IlKhan than a freebirth Warden Spheroid Wolf’?)

But when he finishes, I think he'll be in a stronger position. I also suspect Vlad wouldn't have made that deal without Phelan's knowledge. It looks to me like reuniting the Wolves was the first actual act of reconciliation with the IS...
Also, how much are the Wolverines going to shell out for Romo Lampkin's retainer for the lawsuit against the Coyotes for the first Omnimech design? >:Ddepends, what % will they insist on taking as royalties on the aggregate estimated value of every Omnimech ever produced?
*snip*That's one of the things I think Cannonshop does best, and with that said, I like his own characters even more.
Also, you've got the characters down as reasonable extrapolations from the official BT characters.
so Liz hasn't found out that it was over a landgrab attempt by a real estate developer yet? much less about how the developer manipulated the legal system to achieve it.
I'm sure the auditors will dig it all up. If Wilder knows what's good for him, he'll be properly horrified to learn the truth and offer his resignation before he's fired...
So he'll be fired, but not wrapped in tinfoil and loaded in a gauss rifle first :PUnfortunately, someone ran the maths on that: it only works if your name is Vlad Ward.
And probably will be :)
So in the new Star League, what are the rules on who sits on the throne as the 1st Lord of the Star League?
[out of story]
SHIT!!
I knew when I wrote the last few segments, I was forgetting something.
the Kids. What the hell is going on with the kids?[/out of story]
So, did Nathan copy to his paternity yet?

For those who don't know what a Broward Beast is, it's an apex-predator animal, makes an armorbear look like Teddy Ruxpin, its got an armored body and a triple redundant circulatory system, three sets of jaws, six legs, and a triple nervous system along the spine, which is buried in the body. Killing one is...challenging. It's amphibious in lifestyle, a swamp dweller and fills the same ecological niche as a saltwater crocodile. Killing one usually involves killing it, then burning the corpse before teh dormant young hatch and eat their way out of the mother.

Sounds like you need a gun that will set the target on fire too.
The phrase you are looking for is: "Let´s take off and nuke the site from orbit. It´s the only way to be sure."
So the local Falcons suiting up in a Salamander suit to hunt one is considered a daring down bid?
*snip*This is the part that is going to make me giggle every time I read it... ;D
In the Annals of English Literature, the book is held up as exactly what you do not want to write, if you want your professors to like you. This book made its author one of the wealthiest men on old Earth, and financed his descendants for somewhere close to the next two centuries of vigorous intellectual property lawsuits.

50%? ??? ::)
What's Nathan and Liz bloodtype? BSG stated that cylons were type O like Amanda...
"You better make sure, Trinny." Riverson said. "I, for one, will watch on the telescreen from a distance, because I was one of the people who cheered when Amanda Ngo was gunned down, and I'm not sure I lose it and see a chance to kill Stalin before he became Stalin."
"It's simple enough, Commodore. the Three-P's Deal; Peace, Prosperity, and Progress."Giving me flashbacks to SLA Industries and their Three Ps Contract (Progress, Prospects and Prosperity). :'(

Wait, what? Has the piece that has this event been reposted anywhere? The last repost on the list posted to SB...five years ago, wow...was Sweetness and Light. Is there a better list somewhere, because this fic has had my undivided attention and I would love the opportunity to re-read the older stuff so I can understand it better.
At least Vaun's listening...The price of Democracy is actually having to listen to people.
Smells like WoB to me...
Oh, THAT.
Old habits die hard, I guess. Plus, they´ll want to be prepared for when the war against the Cylon empire is over.
I can only hope none of the Centurions saw the technical data... that wouldn't be erasable... :-X
With something like 21B, I certainly hope that research doesn't happen at Liz's university. Ellen was absolutely right about this being something "man wasn't meant to know"...
For proper containment you don't investigate this on any planetary surface. Instead locate it on something you can nudge into the local star if you lose containment.
Better idea, use some of the anti-matter, like a couple 100 kilograms of the stuff, nothing would survive that.... :whip:
Wait, what? "Focht" is not to know?? ???
"Gotta fund it somehow." Liz said, "You were an education secretary..heck, your public profile is a former teacher. I was rejected from every higher education institution in the Inner Sphere because of my cholmann's diagnosis-because every other major school in the Inner Sphere is there to train soldiers."So places like Tharkad University, University of Washington on Donegal, Doons School of Business, Kyoto College and Raina University don’t exist in the Ngoverse (and that’s just in the Commonwealth: the Federation has excellent civilian universities on the Golden Five Worlds, especially the ‘Gilded Halls’ of El Dorado)?

The University of Washington on Donegal is a Lyran Commonwealth academic institution on the planet Donegal, located in the Queen Anne Hills on the continent of Seattle. The school focuses on computers and communications and has some of the Inner Sphere's best computer science facilities outside of ComStar, and is heavily funded by both House Steiner and Nashan Computers.[1]
The Doons School of Business on Donegal is a Lyran Commonwealth academic institution on the planet Donegal, located in East Marsdenville. Considered to be the pinnacle of corporate education programs in the Commonwealth, the school bears the name of the president of Nashan Diversified, which itself offers many internship opportunities to the school's students. Programs at the school cover every aspect of business and economics.[1]
Raina University on Skye is a Lyran Commonwealth academic institution on the planet Skye, in the city of Raina on the continent of New Scotland. It is largely considered to be the top aeronautical and aerospace research and development university in the Commonwealth, and following the fall of the Star League it played a major role in the rediscovery and redevelopment of DropShip, JumpShip, and WarShip technologies, while continuing to push the bounds of those technologies in the present.[1]
Skye separatism has hindered the ability of Raina University graduates to find employment outside of Skye Province, despite the school's own neutrality on the matter.[1]
The Rewland College of Fine Arts on Tharkad is a Lyran Commonwealth academic institution on the planet Tharkad. It is considered to be the best fine arts school in the Commonwealth, covering topics as varied as acting, dancing, painting, and poetry. The famous Mechwarrior-poet Jamison Henry studied at the school, among many other famous and popular artists and performers.[1]
Admissions to the college is contingent on applicants passing exams in their field of choice, and the school's tuition is often offset by generous grants from the government.
Perhaps in the Ngoverse this is simply pro Steiner propaganda?
"can we get them back?"oh hell.. the Cavils were trying to make a cylon Liz? talk about terminal idiocy, that's a weapon you can be absolutely certain will stab the cavil's in the back.
"I would ask 'why would we want them back'?" Hel laughed, "His new models will be wracked with constant pain, do you know who they copied? billions of humans and they chose the defective one!"
"ours?"
"Fixed, healthy." hel stated, "some loss of gifts, but healthy and normal."
oh hell.. the Cavils were trying to make a cylon Liz? talk about terminal idiocy, that's a weapon you can be absolutely certain will stab the cavil's in the back.
:o
Victor: "You mean I really can have a Liz Ngo for each individual planet in the FedCom? It's Christmas! Break out the good booze!"
REmember, Debra, in teh timeline that won't happen, survived the death of her world, of everyone she knew and wasn't broken. Harm her or those under her protection at your peril.
I'm sure Maggie Doons agrees, Sir Chaos... :D
Are the three Ngo models going to take the names Alecto, Megaera, and Tisiphone? Or perhaps Alice, Megan, and Trish? :oHe could go with Clotho/Lachesis/Atropos or Verthandi/Skuld/Urd, but I think the Furies are more appropriate to Liz and her sense of justice. I would go with the greek equivalents given the BSG tie-in.
Speaking of Hel, I'm curious how they managed to make a Hybrid sane and functional... THAT information could really mess up the Cylon empire...
Hence the inclusion of the major Norns
Correct, which is why the Furies are a better fit for Liz... You want fate, Nikki is the way to go...
The implications are that the Hybrids always have been sane and functional, just unable to communicate cogently with non-Hybrids. Or something.
Hmmm... Jaws theme or Gospel choir singing "Ain't no hiding place". Tough call which seems more appropriate.

I was getting visions of Liz singing Weird Als Eat It
For just a moment there was the light of hope. Then I realise it's the inbound kinetic impactor. It seems there was some meddling. The ones wanted a model to help plan the doom of humanity. Congrats first step is get rid of the ones
That's why New Circe has pickets far enough out to see them before they can pop in on the planet instantly.
Nice update! I wonder how archon-regent Peter will clean house with just the AFFC? Or will it include the alphabet Intel agencies? But it will take to long to clean up the house, and I say this as House Steiner fan.
So the former nobles on Arluna thought they could put a palace coupe and live against Liz's select planetary ruler.
So the Cylon imperium got their version of Liz and she has no idea who she is and is quite strong For a petite Cylon woman. I'm looking forward to he next updatelooks like they download one with Liz young personality installed... Bhahhhhh and love that the Centurion saw here and just went okay
Earlier in the story, Hel stated that the versions downloaded on the Colony are going to be in a great deal of pain / just waiting to see how that plays out in the story....
Nice, maybe he has a plan... but the Colonial IFFs will confuse things for a little while/
