Schreck PPC Carrier
« on: 20 June 2017, 04:23:48 »

This phrase from the Sniper Short Story fit quite well.

It was a long progress over many steps but finally I think I've kept the TRO 3039 text alive (hull down, long accelerator barrel, magnetic lense, cramped crew compartment) without sticking to the "exact" artwork.

Based on a interesting discussion with Kit deSummersville and Natascha Kerensky back in Februar - i designed those PPCs as LINACs. Interesting I did not read the "new" TRO Text for the Schreck until today -and there its exactly mentioned that the Schreck uses longer accelerators for more particle speed but less particle material.

The reason for the exceptional wide body are wide tracks for low ground pressure and the space consumed by the fusion plant.

There are still some things to do (radio equipment, active kill systems, bits, nuts & bolts) - and finally the AC version  }:)

Oh..wow! This is brilliant!  Whilst I like the fluff of Btech's vehicles, some of them just make the ex soldier in me scream in terror at all the shot traps :p  With the track and mesh armour as well as the lovely low profile this looks very much like something we could make.  Do you have a Deviant art page or something as i'd love to view any other work you've done.

As vidar put it ... "Very nice."

Are you sure?
I usually tend to not finish my work  80/20.   :(
I'm working at a Yellow Jacket (7th restart) and Warrior (5th restart) version Rommel (just started) SRM Carrier (2nd restart)

Tanks are more simple - but helicopters.... and the volume magic of BT is painful

Some times I think that BA and infantry must be mounted in underwing pods, like rockets.

For BA maybe.... the best idea i had about the Warrior with BA was to put them in positions on the flank like Deltas on the MH-6 LittleBirds, or in emergencys on the subs of Cobra or Apache.
But the warrior is a high speed helo with a pusher prop - and the toads have the aerodynamics of a brick. (at best i need to tailor the positions for the BA.
Of course the Warrior has a take of weight of a CH-47 (Chinoock) - so space shouldn't be an issue - but in this case you have again the issue between "look and feel" of a combat helo and the size of a transport..... as said very difficult for me

If you want a REAL clown car check out the Galleon Maxwell

http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Galleon

The Galleon looks like an ultra-low profile tank, kind of like the Swedish S-tank so where the HELL are shoving 4 BA troops.  There's NO space in there for them and the crew, and engine.  Is it going to be like Jeremy Clarkson's dunebuggy with its V8 that his colleagues said "Wasn't in it, its like he'd reversed into a V8 but not quite fast enough."

Epitaph on an Army of Mercenaries

These, in the day when heaven was falling,      Their shoulders held the sky suspended;
The hour when earth's foundations fled,         They stood, and earth's foundations stay;
Followed their mercenary calling,               What God abandoned, these defended,
And took their wages, and are dead.             And saved the sum of things for pay.

nothing fancy just a different point of view and some rendering.
- ok you might got an idea about the hydropneumatic suspension system. Although the techs of the 31st century might use myomer or other stuff

Well I know this threat lies dormant for more than a year. The main reason is that I switched from Sketchup to Blender and so needed lots of additional "learning" time.

However - with most Sketchup Work lost - i started from scratch.

This might be the AC version of the Schreck (putting 4 machine guns in the turret was a pain, but I think it looks ok.)
Its missing the body machine guns, additional armor, and well its still has its fusion engine.... :-X

Did some retexturing, still far from finished and I need a better rig for sure.

When I'm finished I will publish a less detailed version for printing (all variants) if some are interested I can provide this one for a test print.

Just realized that those ACs are large tank guns (should be the Armstrong J11) but it would be better from lore aspect to have Imperator A's from Rifleman or the stubby Oriente from the Hermes.... need to get an idea for the HermesII AC first... any other Mechs with 240 Fusion Engine and AC or builds that swap ACs for PPCs?
Clint and Rifleman are hits for both

Some weapons that were used (and should be used, mark the PPC without extension)

As usual in the design process I've reached a point were I getting headaches.
Is the Schreck a combat tank or more a kind of SPG and pure support unit.

Most tanks in BT seem to have a front mounted power pack.... is there a reason other than rule of cool.

OK I might have found a reason - the Schreck is based on the Demolisher and this used 185mm binary propellant cannons, and reloading is much simpler when you have a rear ramp, especially when you have such heavy shells, same is true for the Alacorn - and the Sturmfeuer needs the space in the rear for the missile battery.

While not a nice picture I have spend several hours to make the Shreck printable... at least I hope that I did.
Look for it in Thingiverse (the old version exists, but I think the new one is clearly the best of all my versions - I really love it, today)

and if some want to have an icon:

You are the reason for this, without your commissions to MattPlog I would have hardly as many ideas... this artist is really the magnificent one.

great looking tank!

In fact I can see this chassis being printed in several sizes to represent vehicles from 20 to 100 tons, with varying turrets. it could work perfectly fine as a vedette or scorpion if you printed it smaller (and with an AC turret), or double up as a Manticore or Po as well.

Thats the plan, the Shrecks hull will change into a western mbts hull with front engine. (Same could be used for Po and Fury as example as well.
To mount a rear engine will need a slightly different chassis.

For tracked vehicles I might need 4-5 tracked versions - two are near finish (the Maneater - for example looks like a BMPT on steroids)

I plan to have also visible engine modules and as well some turrets, hope to be able to reduce work by making them interchangeable.
In the end I hope to have a "model kit" that allows players to configure and print all kinds of BT tanks.
