Well, it's cheap if nothing else. I'd be surprised if the chassis and powerplant cost more than the main weapon. Kind of an mini SPG, save that it can barely get out of its own way; when a light vehicle is passed by a Demolisher, then you know you've got problems.
-
Much like a Hetzer or the Urbie, the point of this thing would be to hang around behind cover and give a very bad day to the first unit that stumbles upon it. It's neither fast nor tough and has little range, and combined with its fixed forward-pointing gun with five whole shots, going full ambush predator is the only doctrine available to users.
I still like it, though. The price point is very attractive compared to the Hetzer, and the low armor goes well with the minimal ammo stores. Would consider this for city fighting, or maybe a variant with the Thumper Artillery Cannon.
-
Since it's only a mobile bunker anyway, dropping to 1/2 would get you two more tons to work with for armor and/or ammunition.
The Thumper Artillery Cannon is only 10 tons... you could almost do that on a full speed Scorpion. A real Thumper is 15, and seems to be what you meant.

Fun fact:
It doesn't. :D

20 shots? With only 3 tons of armor? I'm thinking that ratio might be a little off...

Hey man, I made a 2/3 variant because I wanted some speed. LAME. :))
-
But... but it can sprint! Oh, wait... :D
-
It's like... I kind of want to keep the turret for the sake of insanity.
Quickscell be like "Speed? Don't need it. This bad boy is either going to park or follow around infantry and Urbies anyway. If you need to move, just use the boomstick to give you a boost. Timmy tested it, it works."
Might as well go big or go home. It's quirky, and you know what? Slowest tank in the game. Take that, meta gamers.

...... It's perfection to me. I'll still take a dozen.
-
Fractional accounting and shaving off some MG ammo would get it back up to three tons of armor...
-
Yeah, but where's the fun in that?
-
Heh, good point... ;)
-
Sometimes cannon fodder brings its own cannons...
-
Interesting to compare these to my Scorpion LAG (https://bg.battletech.com/forums/index.php?topic=8512.msg976188#msg976188) with an AC/10. Both from a gamer perspective (what's funniest? What could I use?) and an in-universe perspective (how and why would people make them? What do crews think of them?). :)
-
We're pretty close.
I can see these 1/2 or 2/3 move guys working with infantry, Urbanmechs, and SRM carriers in dense urban terrain. I think the turret is the better choice, in both cost and the 360 firing arc. These would basically be mobile turrets... kind of like a 'Mech or Tank buster. The cost is just ridiculously cheap.
Tempted to paint up a lance of these.
-
Or roll them into predug positions around your base and use for base defense. It will be a big surprise if the attacker thinks they are standard Scorpions.
-
I think an AC/10 variation with more armor might actually be better because of range. The AC/20 and near-immobility basically require you to use these like minefields and hope someone is dumb enough to nearly step on one.
-
My AC/20 Stug version has max armor for the tonnage, but putting it into a turret would change things a bit...
-
I would regard this scorpion to be an upgraded field gun.

I'll take that as a compliment! :D ^-^

Any chances for a 40-50 ton version, so it can be carried in Light Vehicle Bays? Be a great surprise for anyone trying to send Mechs after the Dropship, and they don't scout well enough.
"Any SRM carriers? Nope? Probably just a bunch of APCs, nothing to worry about?"
-
If I only knew how.
FYI, these guys won't be so bad as long as you stick to the road. 2/3, baby!
-
Yeah, it looks like the most you can get on a 50-ton chassis is two (IS) AC/20s, not three... clan AC/20s are a different story.
-
I made a few design like this until I discovered the field guns for motorized/mechanized infantry, which is much more effective and not much more expensive to build.

Psh. That's not fun.

Psh. That's not fun.
Hide two platoon with 2 AC/20 each in a building and fire these four autocannons in the poor mech that cross your way. This is fun.
Place another platoon in woods firing 4 AC/5 and see enemy mechs firing PPCs and LRMs at you and just killing one or two unlucky soldiers. This is fun.
