Fun fact: Cruise Missile/50 ammo is 25 tons a pop. The King Karnov has a cargo capacity of 76 tons and comes with a lift hoist

Very interesting... ^-^

...the excellent Hunter (and I'm not talking about that shitty 3058 "upgrade" either).

I like the way you think. O0

Anytime I modify the Sturmfeur I slice about 4 tons of armor off to bolster the ammo supply.  Even at 15 tons of armor it is one of the heaviest armored tanks in the game and more than enough protection for a missile tank.

Know what else is eeeeeenteresting?

If someone was committed to being a total clandestine jerkass and loved support vehicles... each trailer in a Galaport Ground Tug can carry either a Cruise Missile/50 with one shot and  8 tons left over for crew/systems (I'm still a bit fuzzy on the Support Vee construction rules) or 3 reloads with 13 tons left for cranes and what not.

For those going for all-out wacky thought, the Cloud Nine carrier airship and the Eckener Airship tanker both have 400+ tons of space in hangars or cargo that the enterprising ne'er do well might convert into a bay for air-launched cruise missiles.

The funny thing, of course, is that CBT cruise missiles are so large, that they are actually more analogous to real life ballistic missiles. And I don't mean ballistic rockets like Scuds - those are only in the 4-7 tonne range. 25 tons is double ye olde V2 and in the ballpark for SLBMs (The old Poseidon was 29 tonnes, while the Polaris was lighter and the Trident much heavier). Cruise Missile/120s at 60 tonnes are at the heavy end for SLBMs and in the ballpark for intermediate range ballistic missiles.

Food for thought.

Not sure if you could fit a CM into either of those(though I'd love it if we could). In addition to tonnage, artillery and CMs get huge slot requirements when you try and cram them into a support vehicle. You might be lucky if you managed to fit two CM launchers into a naval ship the size of Tico.

Mmm....Virginia class...

True as far as the launchers go. The funny thing? Is that even on support vees, as long as you have the tonnage available, the bin for your actual missiles then only seems to take up an entire single slot... :D

Ammo bins in Battletech have always involved dark magic, just like infantry bays. I figure that someone secretly developed the bag of holding in the 2200s or so, and a shadowy cabal of disgustingly rich people have kept the secret ever since.

It's 2100 tons minimum to have the spaces to mount a CM/50 launcher including the ammo bin.  That's not including minor nice to haves like communications equipment, cargo space, or something to go pew-pew with when someone decides they've had enough of you lobbing ballistic missiles at them.

Doesn't the ammo bin take up a slot as well Moonsword?

If they survive long enough to get annoyed, you've done it wrong. Drats. Blasted support vehicle multipliers.

Yes, it does.  I think you'll find that it's included in that figure I posted just like I said it was right after the number.

Once, again, sorry to post in such an old thread.

Sarna mentions that there's a WoB SturmFeur variant powered by a LFE. For weapons, while retaining a forward firing LRM-20 now enhanced with Artemis IV with a single ton of ammo. It also has a B-Pod on each facing and C3i. In the turret, it now mounts a TAG, double ER medium lasers and pair of Artemis augmented MML-9s with 2 tons of ammo.

It's referenced to JTP: Hesperus II, which I unfortunately do not have.

So just wanted to check if this is canon, and how it compares to the other variants. Is it one of those instances that the WoB actually improved upon (cost notwithstanding, like the WoB Pinto), or like quite a few other machine variants they modified, made a hash of things.

I thought the WoB Pintos were the basic House Amaris model?

99.9% sure he's talking about the upgraded Pinto VTOLs and not the WarShips...

Yes the WoB variant Sturmfeur is canon, but we've never used it at our table so can't really comment on how it compares to other models.

If you mean the one with MMLs and an LRM 20 I have gotten to play that once.  It did quite well for me as I hid behind a wall and fired indirectly at my targets.  THen as they came around the corner I started firing SRMs.  I was actually able to take out one enemy heavy mech which was good because the rest of the team I was playing on was just some power armor vs I think it was 6 custom heavy and assault mechs.  My tank took a ton of punishment and refused to die.  It took the combined firepower of several mechs to bring it down.

The added MML seems like a good idea. The B-Pods are probable still better replaced with something like small lasers but it's better against battle armor than standard MGs.

Personally, I'd wish for the design to drop a ton or 3 of armour so that the MMLs and LRM have more flexibility and endurance.
