(Answered) And yet another specialization question
« on: 14 March 2013, 08:41:55 »
ATOW p.222 "When making attacks using his chosen weapon, the weapon specialist applies a +2 attack roll modifier (instead of the usual +1 for  Skill  specialization).  Unlike  a  typical  Skill  specialization, the Weapon Specialist Ability does not produce a corresponding penalty for the use of non-specialized weapons."

Does this mean it eliminates the Gunnery Specilization penalty for non-specialized weapons, or that there is not and ADDITONAL penalty for non-specialized weapons?  Does the Weapon Specialization replace the Gunnery Specialization?

For example: A pilot with Gunnery Specialization/Laser and Weapon Specialization/Large Laser.  Would this give him a +2 to Large Lasers and a -1 to Ballistic and Missile weapons?  Or would it give hime +2 to Large Lasers with no penalty to Ballistic and Missile weapons?  The latter doesn't make much sense as the pilot is concentrating his training even more on lasers, but the way it's worded I just want to be sure.

+2/no penalty. While specialized in laser weaponry, he's skilled enough to not let it detract from its performance as 'mere' specialization would.

The solution is just ignore Paul.
