I really want to get a MAD3R yet I can't seem to find any for sale, could I use a MADII model sufficiently, or should I keep searching?

because battletech is not a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) game yes you absolutely could substitute (aka proxy) an alternate mini, although at least they are both marauder family mechs.

you can order marauders from Ironwind Metals, they have 5 marauders listed under the search I did.
-
If you are near them you can go to the factory and buy stuff in bulk.
I was so happy when I found out they where only an hour away. My wife, not so much.
-
I think the OP is looking for an unseen mini.
However; there is nothing stopping you from using a later casting and describing it as a downgrade, depending on the era in which you are playing or the understanding of your group. Most people will be okay with proxies or even cardboard/paper standees printed out yourself.

I'll PM you with some suggestions.

judging from some of the more recent artwork, it's really likely we'll get re-seen classic marauders in the next while.
If you want vintage unseen marauders, I'd suggest watching e-bay or flea markets. They've been OOP 20+ years, though.
-
You might also want to look at the MAD-4X -- there's a number of folks on the board who've modded it into a 3R configuration. One thing with it, though -- when assembling, make sure you have something for the left leg to rest on. It's lifted relative to the right let, and the right knee will NOT be able to support the upper body's weight all by itself.

IIRC the Classics marauder -3R has already had a master made and was on schedule to be released by IWM when the HG lawsuit hit, so i would assume sooner rather than later is likely.
until then if you don't want the Project Phoenix versions, the marauder -4X is your best bet.

Not the case. It will likely come out in plastic by CGL in some form first.

The particular word you just used does not fill me with confidence that it will be soon. I hope I'm parsing wrong.

I can’t imagine seeing a classics box before q4 unless it’s already deep in development
-
I would actually consider Q4 reasonably soon.
If the OP is looking for proxies reasonably close, I'd suggest these
http://ironwindmetals.com/store/product_info.php?products_id=1786 Nightstar
http://ironwindmetals.com/store/product_info.php?products_id=1719 Marauder IIC 2. Probably the best fit and looks cool to boot.
http://ironwindmetals.com/store/product_info.php?products_id=9862
http://ironwindmetals.com/store/product_info.php?products_id=2657 Phoenix Marauders. Doesn't look much like an unseen, but better than nothing or the -5L
-
yeah q4 would be a best case scenario gencon surprise announcement. it will probably be 2020 - and that assumes they have something in the works

the IIC 2 is a nice mini but also a damn pain. it has several decorative plates are roughly the size of grains of rice. I wouldn't recommend it for beginners

The Defiance Battlemech is a reasonable substitute for the Marauder, imho
-
The -4X is your best option IMO . . . its why I have one to make into a -3R.

I already turned a 4X into a 3R. Works like a charm
