To probe or ECM? Command mech questions
« on: 25 February 2019, 12:59:36 »
Ok, a little background.  I was playing around with the Royals and speculating what Terran Supremacy Royals would look like in 3095 for Empires Aflame.  By tweaking the Wolverine II (one of my favourite minis), I found I had the ton and a half left over.

Since the Wolverine and Wolverine II's role is 'heavy recon' (like a Charger, but more effective) I found myself wondering.  Which is better for a heavy scout command mech role, guardian for defense?  Or beagle for scouting?

I also note the stock Wolverine II pairs well with the Royal Griffin, which has ECM.

Thoughts?

BAP.

The Wolverine is a heavy recon as stated.

Not to mention the weapons all shine in the 4 hex radius of the BAP which under TO rules can get you a -1 to enemy terrain cover.

just woods

edit: and jungle

also if you're using C3, the woods reduction mod passes to the firing unit in the network (tacops, 99)

ECM . . . the whole point of recon is to see without being seen so you can fully exploit what you do end up finding.  ECM can also be set to ECCM mode to counter any enemies trying to hide under a ECM field- which will mess up a BAP's results.

I'd lean toward a BAP, but if other 'mechs in the lance already have at least one, a Guardian isn't a bad choice.

Since you're customizing, you might as well tailor it to the rest of your unit. If a lancemate has BAP then go ECM, and visa versa.

Agreed.  IF a lance mate already has BAP, go with Guardian.  If a lance mate already has Guardian, go with BAP.

And if they have both, go with ECM for a 3rd mech.
