Picked up a blister of Bolla tanks today. A few questions.... [tickedoff] Why are the front wheels so much smaller than the rest? and why are the middle wheels sticking out further than the rest? The TRO illustration clearly shows that the wheels are all the SAME size and are inline with each other. And why is the included turrets so flippin HUGE! They also resemble no varients listed in the TRO! For one of the turrets, the closest varient is C, but that gives it three extra missile tubes per side and leaves a minigun missing from the front of the tank. There is no varient that uses three six packs of missile launchers! Don't the sculpters even look at the illustrations that they are to be representing? MAN...this is going to take a lot of rework. [tickedoff]
-
Might those be for the old WoB versions? Slightly different configurations.
-
Even if they are, they're HUGE! Not kidden! they're like three times larger than they should be!
-
Hmmmmmm.....just dug up my jihad hot spots 3076....yup...the loadouts are the original primary and A......and the artwork is indeed different in regards to the placement of the wheels.....the mliddle ones do stick out further...BUT they ARE all the SAME SIZE in the illustrations!. AND the turret is not as large as the mini represents! it needs to shrink by 25% or so, and the rear of the tank needs major rework to get it to represent the illustrations properly (both of them). Damn.....still gonna be a lot of rework. [tickedoff]

you realize these are toys right? I think you are stressing out a little to much over scale

Didn't you just work tirelessly to raise thousands of dollars to fund the production of toys?
-
Lol
I dont piss and moan about scale in an abstracted universe

If painted properly, wouldn't it be Extremely Difficult to find these on the table once you've set them down? :o
:D

Gentlemen, Ladies... Can we tone it down a little bit here?
Don't make me come back and hammer out some warnings!

Geez guys, I am just griping on the sculpter's lack of perspective here! It's not life and death, but it would be nice if the sculpter that does these things would take a bit more care about his work. Thats all I am saying. It is going to take a lot of work to make it more correct...if I can even do it without destroying it. And as for losing them on the game board....I don't think so....they're fairly large.
-
Um "stealth" tank...nevermind, he was making a joke that apparently went over your head.
-
My only issue was that it was odd to include two different turrets- not BAD, but it was surprising. But it paints up VERY nicely- those deep panel lines and flat slabs of armor make drybrushing come up beautiful, particularly in WoB white. To be honest, this has become one of my favorite Battletech vehicle minis- I'm pondering eventually getting another pack of them, even though I'll likely not really use them in games. I just love the mini enough to want to work on them again.

I got it and chose to ignore it

JADE.....I like those aspects of it too.....I just wish the sculpter paid more attention to the artwork. From the turret back, the mini is nothing like the artwork.....it is supposed to be sloped down, instead the sculpter made it straight and flat and to long. The odd sized front tires are an easy fix, the rear is another story. I am going to see what I can do. I may make a resin clone of an original as it is easier to work with and so I don't scrap a metal one.

You didn't ignore it tho. You said you wouldn't loose it...It is fairly large...
-
I ignored it in my own way...... ::)

I like the mini and think it represents the art well. What am I missing?

it really doesn't matter, it's all a matter of perspective, everyone has differing opinions on different minis. If you don't see what packhntr sees then that's fine.

That's pretty much my plan. I see one of the game's better vehicle minis sitting on my workbench here- a little big, but very nicely sculpted in my opinion. If others don't like it, that's their opinion as well. I personally don't like the unseen Marauder, but I know I'm in the minority on that one- everyone has their tastes, and just because we don't agree doesn't make any of us WRONG.
*back to painting a Toro*

It is a very nicely done mini....just not as accurate as it should be (to the artwork). I am nit picking a bit, but for the money, it should be more accurate.

if it is good enough for the artist, it should be good enough for all of us.

if it is good enough for the artist, it should be good enough for all of us.
hard to argue with logic like that :-\

UMMM....NO I don't settle for merely "It's good enough for him" [tickedoff]

just saying we should ask Brent Evans Opinion as the the miniature since he was the original artist. I am gonna go out on a limb here and guess he would say "Ironwind made a mini out of this? Cool!"
-
I am glad they did too! The front half accurately represents the artwork.....the rear half..not so much.
-
Pics please? So we can see your fine art of painting Bone White on a mini.

his opinion would hold about as much weight as packhntr's does. just because he drew it does not mean that his opinion on the mini is any more important than anyone elses. If someone doesn't like the mini I doubt knowing that Brett Evan's does is going to change any of that.

No kidding. Just because the artist is happy they made a mini from their artwork doesn't mean I'm forced to like it. Twist my arm all you like, i'll never like the PP crusader. :P
-
Honestly, if he drew it, I'd like to shake his hand...the artwork is beautiful! It's the mini that is the problem....or at least the rear half of the mini.

God, I hope you don't mean ME. There's a long list of photos I've put up of shoddily-painted miniatures on these forums before. (Well, actually the OLD forums, but still- I'm horrible in ways that defy belief.)
I'll try to grab a photo when I get home of my Bolla tonight though if anyone really cares. (The other one still is just primer-grey)
-
Well practice makes perfect... I have done hand paint jobs, but I am most proud of a little color on an otherwise dull, but brightly colored mini.

Speak for yourself, not for the rest of as. Thx! 8)
