No fluff yet but i've got an idea for a quad clan general purpose assault and would like peoples thoughts on it.

But I ran it through SSW and I come up with 1.5 tons less armor.

Yeah I think I screwed up with the turret on Megamek, even the leg armour out and ya golden, and kind of a suped up Goliath yes. Same kind of design peramiters, keep an opponent at long range. The medium pulse lasers are there really only to ward someone off if they get too close whilst the LB can wear down an opponent at mid range.

Yea, I didn't go thorough any armor balancing. I was just doing a rough work up and noticed the overall armor coverage difference.
Plus I also wanted to double check DHS placement. That to me seems to be one of MML's listing downsides.
EDIT: how about 9/39( 8 )/28( 8 )/30/30 (H/CT(R)/L&RT(R)/FL/RL)?

That could work, it don't really need defensive weapons, if you can't bring someone down with a trio of ER Large and a single LB-10...then a pair of medium pulsers ain't gonna do much.

I've had this idea for a while.
A Clan Jade Falcon quad mech...armed with Talons and built to be as scary as possible for the Mongol doctrine to scare civilians into line.
Fitted active probe, ECM, and a battery of pulse lasers and plasma cannon this is meant to get in close in urban environment to the point of even savaging mechs with its talons.

Okay, tidied it up a bit, and yeah I was off with the turret, the ECM put me a ton overweight. So with that removed, and the medium pulsers replaced with jump jets, I was also able to armour the turret mount for the laser array.

That will work quite nicely, act as a SuperNova at range and if the enemy comes too close then fill their holes with cluster shot. :)

Thank you :) and with the JJ's its quite mobile, and the turret stops it being outflanked easily. Not sure what Clan would use it. As was said its liked a souped up Goliath, or a strange Supernova.

Aw, I like the Thunder Stallion. Although TRO 3060 was the first one I ever bought back when I was a kid, so I have a soft spot for a lot of that art even if it didn't age very well.

Designed by Clan Diamond Shark the Acheron was 'billed' to other Clans as a general purpose multi-role assault Mech that could engage targets at long range and provide support in multiple roles.
Its design was actually based, in part, on the Trebaruna although the Clan chassis was ten tons lighter. The mech was also more squat than the typical Quad design, not a towering eddifice like the Thunder Stallion or Goliath, but with its chunky body and comparatively squat legs working to give it a solid and muscular form. The Internal space was extensive but this was due to the limited amount of advanced materials used in the construction. Instead the Sharks opted to make their Mech simple to make and maintain, its lower production cost were also reflected in its low price.
Opting for a simple but effective mix of weapons the Acheron features a trio of ER Large lasers all of which are housed in a turret on the right torso. Additional armouring was then applied to the turret to stop it being disabled and jammed. A LB-10X autocannon is situated in the left torso along with its 3 tons of ammunition, giving the Acheron considerable endurance. Like the Trebaruna, the Acheron also features jump jets, but owing to space constraints forced by the extensive cooling system, these were not mounted in the legs. Instead they were mounted on the sides of the Mech, near its 'belly'. They are also installed on flexible mountings that allow the warrior to direct the thrust whilst making a leap, rather than just firing straight down. These variable pitch thrusters make the jumps stable even to the maximum 120 meter distance.

A - The A config was built as a support unit and is slightly more general purpose in nature. For long range firepower it fits a pair of Artemis IV enhanced LRM-15's in the turret. Space constraints however meant that the ammunition had to be stored in the adjacent torso, although its safely stored in a CASE II ammunition bin. Other weapons include a trio of medium pulse lasers as well as a single large pulse laser firing over the Mech's head. Finally the electronics feature a Watchdog CEWS.

B - The brawler of the config, the B is apparently modeled on the Barghest 4T and is built to sting opponents at long range and then maul them at shorter ranges. To this end the turret mounts an ER PPC, whilst an Improved Heavy large laser and Ultra-10 autocannon live in the other torso. The cannon is fed by two tons of ammunition but its main punch comes from its energy weapons. Most notably, all three weapons are linked into a targeting computer, making it dangerously accurate at all ranges.

Very nice. I like the art. But I have questions. Are Clan Quad Turrets different (I had to use the IS version because the Clan version didn't show up in the selection menu), because my version in MegaMekLab is 1.5 tons overweight (I had delete half a ton of armor and single heat sink to mimic your Prime configuration)?

If Mech turrets work in MML like they do in SSW, did you indicate that the weapons actually mount on the turret?
In SSW, once you put the intended turret weapons in the Crit section and have turret placed too, you then have to right click on the weapon and select 'add to turret'. Once that happens, the turret weight is then figured in.

Yes, I put all three ER Large Lasers for the Prime variant into the turret. And I also armored the turret as Marauder648 did.

I just worked it up in SSW as well.
Marauder, I think you forgot to add the Lasers to the Turret again.
I went and worked it out in SSW and I'm 1.5 Tons over as well with Clan CASE for the LB 10-X Ammo.

Without pulling DHS' out of the design, its either unarmor the turret and a ton of armor or pull a 1.5 tons of armor off. Personally I'd go the latter.
I'd do the armor this way: 9/41 [10]/25 [9]/32/32
But that's just me...

This is odd, doing in Megamek's mek lab, now I've figured out how to use the turret and add the guns to it, still lets me fully armour the hull, heatsinks drops to 17. Which results in this.

I would actually reduce the LB-X ammo by one ton and put back another heat sink. Three tons of ammo for a single heavy autocannon is a little bit excessive in my opinion.

yeah you're right, its one of my wee idiosycracies :) I prefer to lean towards larger ammo loads for big guns, for me 2 tons of gauss ammo is like the BARE minimum and Scientists who think one ton is fine need to have AT-AT's do line dancing on their heads. *nods*

Yeah, I also like two have enough ammo to last some time. An LRM-15 without 2 tons of ammo is just a waste of space to me.
By the way, you could actually mount both the ER PPC and the Heavy Large Laser of the B variant in the turret without additional weight gain if you manage to squeeze them both into the right torso.
I also played around with the mech a bit and made a generalist C configuration (RAC 5 with three tons of Ammo and two ER PPC's in the turret) and an D configuration that is a vehicle/infantry killer (IS Plasma Rifle and two AP Gauss in the turret, 2x SRM 6 with two tons of ammo (Inferno and Standard HE), Mech Mortar 8 with three tons of ammo (Airburst for murdering infantry) and an ER Large Laser for some ammo-independent long range-shooting).

Oooh..interesting idea! Megamek don't seem to take doing Mix-tech too well (or I'm most likely doing it wrong :p)

Space and weight constraints meant some faffing with the ammo for the weapons, and more armour has been added, this time to the hip joins, making this city fighter an absolute bugger to disable.

Based in part on the Trebaruna, the Mech that would become the Acheron was designed as a general purpose Mech that started off as an OmniMech but was adapted to be a standard one. Ten tons lighter than its progenitor the Acheron features a 340 rated XL Engine allowing it to hit up to 64kph at full speed. For additional mobility (both tactical and strategic) a quartet of jump-jets were installed allowing for 120-meter leaps.
Unfortunately, the design stage was plagued with delays and some of the Shark Scientists feared they were facing another Mad Cat Mk III situation. Initial placement of the Jump jets was to be on the legs for maximum stability, but space constraints forced them to be mounted on the Mech’s belly. But stability issues then arose during electronic testing of the Mech forcing several re-designs of the thruster nozzles before they were installed of gimballed vectoring mountings, allowing the thrusters to direct their force where needed.
With the stability issue fixed the biggest problem arose. The Khans had requested an 85-ton design, but even with only using an XL engine to save space, there simply wasn’t room to make the Mech up to its full combat weight, which would, even with the vectored nozzles, result in instability in jumps and excessive jarring to the Mech’s hips due to it being unbalanced.
This forced the Scientists to take a somewhat radical approach. Instead of being an OmniMech they could re-design it as a standard Mech, this would allow them to add or remove armour to components of the Mech’s internal structure to make up for tonnage difference between weapon loadouts, and to bring it up to its full weight.
This could then allow for increased numbers traded to other Clans who were hungry for new Mech’s as well as the Black Guard on Tukkayid.
Whilst the weapons and the turret would remain semi-modular making them easy to repair in the field, there was not much chance of changing an Acheron into another variant without significant amounts of factory time.
Acheron – Armed with a LB-10X autocannon fed by a 2-ton ammo bin and a trio of ER Large lasers in an armoured turret mounting the standard Acheron is versatile and able to engage at all ranges against a wide veriaty of threats. Able to fire all of its lasers without any heat build-up the Acheron is cool running and the LB-10 autocannon provides a hard punch and can be turned on tanks and aircraft with a high chance of crippling them with a salvo. Although not too hard hitting, the flexibility of the turret, the long range firepower and good mobility curve all combine to make the Acheron capable of engaging most threats it meets.

Acheron 2 – Designed for a more supporting role the A features a pair of Artemis IV enhanced LRM-15’s in the turret with 4 tons of ammo carried safely in a CASEII protected ammo bin in the adjacent torso. Direct fire comes from a trio of medium pulse lasers as well as a large pulse laser that fires over the Mech’s head. These potent, accurate weapons can easily counter the usual answer to LRM barrages such as fast moving Mech’s or vehicles.

Acheron 3 – Built for close quarters action the Acheron 3 is designed to get in close and engage at mid to short range. Although it only mounts three weapons, these are an Improved Heavy large laser, an ER PPC and an Ultra 10 pattern autocannon. These three weapons can deal a tremendous amount of damage in a very short time. Both energy weapons are mounted in the turret for the widest firing arcs, whilst 2-tons of ammunition for the cannon give it enough battlefield endurance.
The Acheron 3 also applies extra layers of ablative armour to its cockpit and gyro casing, whilst the laser and ammunition are protected by CASEII systems. Finally an ECM can jam hostile electronics.

Acheron 4 – Similar to the 3, the Acheron 4 also has only a trio of weapon systems, this time with a focus more on long to mid-range engagements. To this end, a pair of ER PPC’s are mounted in the turret, whilst the newly developed Clan made RAC-5 sits in the adjacent torso. Three tons of ammunition are needed to keep up with the guns ferocious rate of fire. Space constraints meant that the ammo had to be spread out but most of it is protected by a CASE II system. The Acheron 4 also has an armoured cockpit but lacks the armoured gyro of the 3.

Acheron 5 – Built for close quarters anti-infantry operations in built up areas or tight confines the Acheron 5 features a mixbag of armament to allow it to do its job. Most surprisingly it mounts a Mech Mortar, allowing it to engage dug in troops and support friendly forces without a line of sight. A plasma rifle and a pair of AP Gauss rifles provide the main anti-infantry and vehicle punch whilst an ER large laser and pair of SRM-6’s can engage Mechs or vehicles, or if the right ammunition is loaded infantry and battle armour with inferno rounds.
This version has also wrapped each leg joint in extra armour round the hip to make them harder to disable, but it is also the rarest of the Acheron variants.
