Era Report 3052 has a short writeup on the unit, two writeups for commanding officers, a touchpoint scenario featuring the unit, and special abilities for each of its regiments.
The original House Steiner sourcebook has a short writeup on the unit and mentions a couple battles the unit was in.

Thanks. Looks like this was a "disposable unit"

Yup, presumably the 12th Star Guards simply didn't have a guardian angel at FASA, despite being one of the larger merc units, and so they were chosen to be one of those smashed by the Clan invasion to prove just how big and bad the threat actually was.

Also one of the old housebooks (Steiner or Davion, IIRC).

Steiner.

It was in fact one of the 5 premier or elite Merc commands in the Succession Wars board game.

The others were Wolf's Dragoons, Eridani Light Horse, 21 Centari Lancers and 4th Tau Ceti Rangers

Some information is also available in the Clan Wolf and Clan Jade Falcon sourcebooks, though that deals with the destruction of the unit. The unit's deployment was noted in the 20 Year Update, as I recall. There might have been some other brief mentions that I used as sources for the ER 3052 writeup.

Hopefully we'll find out more some day about the Star Guards and others like them at some point.

They also appeared in the War of 3039 IIRC . . . which is where I got material for their assets and organization before ER 3052 came out.
