Some Savage Coyote and MechWarrior Game Love
« on: 23 June 2024, 10:28:07 »
My next modeling obsession became the Savage Coyote!  My version is an amalgamation of both official and commissioned works by Matt Plog as well as the current IWM sculpt, with some of my own personal touches.

I made the model, so of course I had to make another MechWarrior 2 Expansion concept  :smiley_star:  I call this:

MECHWARRIOR 2:  COYOTE CONSPIRACY

YOU ARE EITHER WITH US OR AGAINST US!  There is a conspiracy afoot in the Clan Homeworlds, where a faction of Clan Coyote is aiming to change the Way of the Clans forever!  Will you join this new society in its fight against the Warrior Caste?  Or will you defend the Clans as The Founder intended?

Of course in the end, everyone pretty much loses - but I'd definitely want the players to win on entertainment   I'd totally want a cutscene where CCS Ancestral Home destroys itself and CSV Perigard Zalman in a hyperspace attack!

For new 'mechs, I'd go with GBL's count and add at least twelve:  Savage Coyote, Rabid Coyote, Blood Asp, Canis, Blood Kite, Stooping Hawk, Hunchback IIC, Hellion, Solitaire, Turkina, Night Gyr, and Corvis.  There would be four BONUS 'mechs that may be unlocked depending on which path the player takes, which would include the Cephalus, Septicemia, Osteon, and Iron Cheetah.

There would definitely be new weapons, like heavy lasers, the ATM and iATM systems, light and heavy MGs, and equipment like improved jump jets, Nova and Watchdog CEWS.  NPCs would include protomechs of all kinds.  Maybe a cheat code would allow the player to take select some protomechs to use...

Some info about the box art:  The background image is a modification of a photo taken of the Moon Valley in Atacama Desert in Chile, with a second moon added.  The backdrop is supposed to represent Dustland on Tamaron, and Tamaron has three moons, so I wanted another one in the sky.  The MechWarrior fonts were lifted from the actual expansion pack boxes, with "COYOTE CONSPIRACY" done in a stencil font.  The Savage Coyote Prime model is my own work and wears a camouflage inspired by the MERDC 4-tone desert pattern.  The 'mech represents the 67th Assault Cluster, Delta Galaxy, Clan Coyote.

Excellent concept. I'm looking forward to seeing the model, or at least the 3D sketch, made available.

Thank you!  I've been fascinated with the Savage Coyote lately, thinking of it as somewhat an omnimech Awesome or Mauler IIC.  The original art and IWM sculpt doesn't do the chassis justice, IMO.  Matt Plog's private commissions were a huge improvement and I took some design elements from those, such as the arm omnipods and some of the proportions.  I also liked having symmetrical upper arm shields, which just scream MAULER or AWESOME!

The 'mech design itself doesn't seem very popular, being overshadowed by more classic omnis or even others that have appeared on game box covers (looking at you, Blood Asp!).
