I can’t speak to procedures at FASA or under FanPro but virtually *any* work for CGL requires an NDA or two or three. Those generally aren’t handed out willy nilly. Proofreading upcoming products grants a tremendous level of access.

You bought the box set and are ready to expand your bt experience. Now what? | Modern Sourcebook Index | FASA Sourcebook Index | Print on Demand Index
Equipment Reference Cards | DIY Pilot Cards | PaperTech Mech and Vehicle Counters

Proofreading for typos isn't.  Not at all.   :undecided:

I ACCIDENTALLY misspelled "Proofreading" TWICE and the word was underlined, calling it to my attention.  I know Word and Facebook do the same thing.

I'm glad were safe from wrung word choices and typos tanks to technology.

There are even PEOPLE that will read over things and Proofread them.  Different pair of eyes and all that.

Though, I DO remember 20+ years back, before "CBT.Com" was a thing even, when someone posted to the Forums, bragging about being a proofreader for BT fiction, and posting Spoilers about upcoming novels.     I can't remember NOW What they commented on or about, or even if they Genuinely posted Spoilers or not.  But that could be Why CGL stopped having outside people proofread for them?

CGL did not stop having outside people proofread for them, I can tell you this for certain.

If they have proofreaders, it doesn't show on quite a few of these newer books. Empire Alone's entry on the CapCon alone had such terrible grammar that it physically hurt to read.

Shrapnel has had a number of basic typos lately that should be getting caught by any decent amount of proofreading.

I've been a copy editor in the past and that's genuinely intriguing but I've no idea how that works.

Here's a question about a sort-of potential upcoming release:  Does anyone know if another print run of Total Warfare is in the works?

I've been out of the hobby since the Jihad, but a bunch of newbies roped me back in.  So I'm looking for the equivalent to my old 1990 Compendium as a master rules annex.  Great, except it seems that everywhere under the sun is sold out.  Obviously it's great to have your books selling like hotcakes, but with printing being what it is, is another run of product going to be coming soon?

Would you be interested in the Battlemech manual? That book is more widely available and eschews other units for a more complete Mech rulebook. I'm sure TW will continue to get reprints but this could be a more immediate solution.

Will second the Battlemech Manual.  If you're not using non-mech units like infantry and vehicles, the BMM is a fantastic rulebook that covers all the rules for mechs in Total Warfare and adds some advanced rules and equipment as well.  Highly useful since a lot of modern mechs make use of advanced tech that's not covered in Total Warfare.

That could be a potential bridge solution, although ultimately it'd be useful to have Total Warfare because of how fun combined-arms scenarios can be.  Thanks for the idea.

Total Warfare errata is up to 11.01, which means an eleventh printing is in the pipe. I’ve only seen up to the 10th printing in the wild

Are you opposed to PDFs?  I bring my Kindle to games and it has Total Warfare, TacOps, Tech Manual, Campaign Ops, Interstellar Ops, lots of FMs, ilClan, Shattered Fortress, other sourcebooks, and scenario books of various types.

Carrying the equivalent in books would take up more space than my mini bag and weigh a LOT more.

Fan of the PDFs myself. Not only easier for travel, cost efficient and easier storage (1 USB vs a whole bookshelf) I gave also lost most of my physical game aids twice in my life so it gives me peace of mind to have it backed up on multiple ways.

I think there's a place for both.  Yes, PDFs are portable and great as a backup, but when you're over the table at home a physical book is really convenient.

Just an amusing anecdote to share about a recent-ish release.
I ordered a copy of Recognition Guide Vol. 2 from Amazon and it arrived today. With five of its identical siblings.
I was only charged for one book (thankfully), but they sent me six copies. They were shrink wrapped together, so I guess whoever picked the order didn't feel like cutting the bundle open and just packing one.

I was mostly being facetious. I agree they probably grabbed the bundle thinking it was a single book.
The question is what to do with them. I've sold books to Noble Knight in the past, but five copies of the same new book may give a "fell of the back of a truck" impression.

That's EXACTLY how I felt about the A Time of War Companion when it was released several years ago.  But when I dared to complain about the LACK of proofreading, I got a Warning and my post deleted.     I didn't cuss, and I obviously didn't name any names (NOT that I knew Who to blame, and I wouldn't have named anyone even if I had known), but I still got a Warning.  Was told that I should "Volunteer" to proofread it myself if I felt that strongly.  Nope, not doing that for FREE, after they've Supposedly already paid someone to do it.
To me, Repros are 100% Wrong, and there's NO  room for me to give ground on this subject. I'm not just an Immovable Object on this, I'm THE Immovable Object. 3D Prints are just 3D Repros.

Alternatively, the current review team could do their jobs right instead of asking paying customers to volunteer to do the same job for free. Just a thought.

Maybe CGL should pay for editors? They can hire someone to maintain their website and do product announcements at the same time.

Those decisions are out of our hands; we're just trying to come up with solutions with the means we have available. The review team works very hard to make BattleTech products the best they can be and they should be lauded for their efforts but they could always use some additional members.
