This was the subject of my masters' research project, based on similar such remarks. Hypothesis: would intrusive online advertising really turn people off the product?
You'd think we had a slam dunk, but it turns out...
no. Sure, people are irritated. But they're not irritated
enough to not buy the product. Even when it was not an essential, generic or low-cost item.
Like it or not, advertising works, for the most part.
