New bomb ordnance

Something bigger than the normal bomb, and one a bit smaller.

Hardened Ordnance Penetrator (HOP)

As allied forces started encountering the fortifications of the Word of Blake Maginot line, several solutions were devised to overcome them.  Some were ground-based, such as the TSM-powered OTL-9R Ostsol.  One of the aerial weapons developed was the "Hoop", or hardened ordnance penetrator bunker buster.  Borrowing heavily from the anti-ship Arrow missile this bomb uses a combination of a reinforced leading edge with a rocket booster to burrow deeply into heavily reinforced bunkers before exploding.  For maximum effect sensors are included to count voids so empty upper floors used as buffer zones can be bypassed.

It is not a general purpose super bomb though.  The penetration capabilities means a hit in open ground buries the weapon so far down it has no appreciative effect.  Lighter structures offer too little resistance for reliable detection of floors, always resulting in detonation at the lowest level.

Game effects

This is carried and dropped as a bomb, occupying 6 bomb slots each.  It must be dropped from at least altitude 3.  When dropped the target level must be specified with the target hex.  If the bomb impacts a hardened building it detonates at the recorded level.  With any lesser structure it travels the full depth of the building and detonates at the lowest level.

Against buildings it is treated as a 15 point radius 1 AE weapon.  Using TW rules this works out as 45 points at the level of detonation, 30 points each at the level above and below, and 15 points in the level above and below those.  Each of the surrounding hexes, if they are part of the same structure, take 30 points with 15 points above and below.  Provided all levels are available this totals 135 points in the impact hex and 60 in each surrounding hex.

Against hardened ferrocrete, such as DropShip landing pads, it creates a depth 1 crater with rubble.  All other hexes are unaffected.

Smart Lightweight Munition (SLiM)

The post-Jihad period marked a reduction in both scope and scale of conflict.  Public tolerance for collateral damage was greatly reduced even though fighting did not completely dissappear.  Republic munitions experts developed the "slim jim" lightweight bomb to meet these requirements while deploying lighter (and in some cases, ultralight drone) forces.

The small size of this weapon allows smaller aircraft to carry more compared to conventional bombs, and even lighter RPV/drone craft to carry several.  Glide wings deploy when dropped allowing greater stand-off distances and improved targeting.  And the warhead uses a novel explosive in a lightweight fiberglass shell, delivering damage through localized blast rather than farther reaching fragments.  To ensure the limited warhead size is not wasted smart terminal homing prioritize targets.

A second generation, the SLiM II, includes TAG homing capabilities for use against moving targets.

Game effects

This is carried and dropped as a bomb, with every two occupying 1 slot each (round up).  It must be dropped using altitude bombing, dive bombing is not permitted.

As a glide bomb it may be targeted at hexes away from the flight path, at a maximum distance of 1 hex per level of altitude.  Reduce the altitude penalty by 2 points to a maximum of 0.

Once the impact hex is determined, randomly determine a unit in that hex.  If the TAG variant is used a unit designated by friendly TAG is automatically selected.  This unit takes 5 point of area effect damage while all others take no damage.  If there are no units in the hex the bomb has no effect.
Think about it.  It's what we do.

I like them both
My three main Alternate Timeline with Thanks fan-fiction threads are in the links below. I'm always open to suggestions or additions to be incorporated so if you feel you wish to add something feel free. There's non-canon units, equipment, people, events, erm... Solar Systems spread throughout so please enjoy
