I'm not sure if this is going to work but, I have set up a blog to try and gather together the Battletech community in the UK.

I'll publish news reports, gatherings, club venues, gamer details, events, gamer reports, points of sale and anything else to do with Battletech.

Let's get the ball rolling, send me anything you want and I'll try and organise and publish it on here.

I thinks it's time to get organised......

If you are reading this you are a part of the  BattleTech community. Paint it Pink signing out.

OK, looking at people who've posted their locations (in no particular order):

Battleclad: Northants
Shin Yodama: SE Cheshire
warden: Macclesfield (Cheshire) / St Andrews (Fife)
doubtlesswonder: Warrington (Cheshire)
viridianuk: Morecambe Lancashire...
Tokage: Croydon.
Chinless: Derby.
SteveUK: Warwickshire
blackguard_alpha: Cumbernauld, North Lanarkshire
Challenger: Worksop, North Nottinghamshire
Davion_Boy_74: Stafford, Staffordshire
Paint it Pink: W London
Robert Anstruther: Rugby
Mart_UK: Oxfordshire
Leon Shirow: Nottingham
DaveMac: Buckingham
ElectricMonkey: Beds/Bucks
Firedrake: High Wycombe, Bucks

It looks to me as though we have two main clusters of people, in/near Cheshire and London/Buckinghamshire, though we don't know how mobile each person is.

I suggest that the near-Bucks contingent try meeting in a pub somewhere to have some beer, lie about the old days, and see whether enough people turn up to make it worth getting a game together. Worth the effort? DaveMac, ElectricMonkey, me, maybe Mart_UK, Paint it Pink, Tokage...

(Did someone post something about sending me a PM? If so I didn't receive it. If I don't reply to you, you could send me email - to stalker at tekeli.li)

I'm up for it, a weekend would be best of course.

Perhaps a pub lunch in a nice pub could be a good starting point?

If the others could give you a more accurate idea of where they are we could start to narrow down a possible meet site.

What about the Cheshire folks?

Macclesfield, Warrington and Kidsgrove aren't that far from each other (hell, I was in Macclesfield on a job interview) - do you guys fancy brushing the cobwebs off?

I can travel (not too far with the price of fuel lately) or I can host - I have a 'workshop' attached to my house that could easily accommodate quite a large game, and coffee and tea on tap. Also, I have rules, maps dice and 'mechs - you'd just need your record sheets really.

Hey Guys and Girls - I posted my own topic about this but I'll post here as well so I can get in touch with all of you (or as many of you who are interested)

I'm Sam (A Canadian) - I'm a Demo Team Agent - I'm moving to London in the first week of January (specifically moving to Beckenham, which I think is in Bromley, which I think is technically South London - but still Oyster Zone? anyways).

Anyways, as a Demo Team Agent, I would like to keep my skills sharp between conventions by running a regular gaming event either out of King's College London (where I am a student and will shortly be forming a Gaming Club)  or a pub or something.

I would like to run events on at least a monthly basis, if not every other week. I know there are only a few people close to London (who I have both messaged) - please, if you are close to London, can travel to London and are interested in playing, let me know.

things I have in mind 1)a mercenary campaign - all the players are mech warriors/tank drivers/whatever in a mercenary company. I have experience playing in one of these campaigns and would love to run one of my own. I was thinking either a 3036/3039 campaign, a Clan invasion era campaign, or a Jihad era campaign. Please let me know what you would be interested in.

Other ideas include just drawing up company on company battles, and having at 'em.

I'm also interested in going to local conventions - so if people know of gaming conventions around London that I can run battletech at...

my email is samamclean@gmail.com. PLease don't hesitate to drop me a line.
Title: Re: UK Players Roll Call
Post by: Firedrake on 29 November 2011, 07:01:37
Sounds like a good idea. Beckenham is in Zone 4, about 20 minutes from Victoria. I can't promise to be 100% reliable for a monthly event in London but I'd certainly like to give it a try.

Of the campaigns you mention, pre-Clan is my preference - I've just never found them all that interesting as a narrative element. But I'm flexible.

Haven't been to one of those since I lived nearby, but well worth a shot as a meetup site. Also Warfare in Reading, though we've just missed that.

I'm thinking about doing a campaign just after the formation of the Chaos march - that way there are plenty of enemies to choose from - Clan, WOB, Comstar, all the houses, pirates, etc. Lots of opportunity for doing things. It might be interesting to run a campaign based on a merc company hired by WOB

"Yay, this month we got shot at by the enemy more than by our employers!"

"That doesn't sound like cause for celebration."

"Wait till you've been out here a few more years, kid."
Title: Re: UK Players Roll Call
Post by: Antooine on 05 December 2011, 14:29:28
THis is going to be a once a month thing - hopefully that way the most people can make it any point.

Would people rather I hold the campaign event at a game store (like Dark Sphere) or at a ... alternate location (like one where drinks and food can be purchased and consumed?).

Also, if everybody can find a copy of the A Time of War .pdf or (or the real book - pdfs are probably easier to find and cheaper), build yourselves a character out of that - we're going after the fall of Terra to the WOB (you guys will be forming your merc company just after).

You can do what you want with your characters within the rules - if you want to make slight alterations for plot line, send me an email and I'll okay/nay say them as they come up but I'll say yes if they're well thought out and explained. All players must own their vehicles - you don't *need* (bold, underscored) to be a mechwarrior, but I *strongly* (bold, underlined) suggest it. That said, it would be fun to have vehicles along side tanks. That way I can bring out my ALACORNS!! (otherwise my tanks will be relegated to opforce... tho I do love using vehicles for opfor.)

I do plan on making a facebook group to make this easier to coordinate - i have some players who aren't on this forum - please shoot me an email if you're interested (vaguely interested) so I can start coordinating things through my email = just to remind people its samamclean@gmail.com

I will be getting a UK phone number, and when I know that (probably on Jan 6) I will send it out through email

Hey everybody - Since I"m moving to the UK in a week (holy crap already).

I'd like to set up my first game for a week after I move in - so Friday January 13th. I'd like to do something at Dark Sphere (which is in Central London - right near Waterloo tube station).

I'd like to do a company on company game (speed battletech but *not* quickstrike rules*) depending on how many people show up we may splite it into bits.

I have minis that I will be bringing - I'm thinking DLC + DOnegal Guards + whatever vs Marik Milita + Syn's Hussars + Cappies.

Would anybody be interested in playing? Or if people don't want to go to a store, I may be able to host the game at my place.

Let me know if people are interested.

Hey there,

My name is Matt and I live near Hull.

Long time fan of the Battletech Universe since I picked up the box set back in the early 90s, though I only ever played a couple of games, and from playing all the computer games starting with the SNES one (just recently played through Mechcommander 2 and have started Vengeance again). Really getting back into the detail of the universe through reading the all the novels from the beginning.
Would be interested in finding someone to play a couple of games with. Also keen to try out some Quickstrike as the more streamlined version appeals to me after years of WHFB and 40k.
I prefer the Succession and early Clan Invasion eras, mainly because that is what I have read about and I am not keen on all the fancy weapons and equipment from later on.

Matt

It seems that running battletech at London Anime Con may have fallen through since I can't get the organizer on the Horn.

Hi Sam, how did the game go on Sunday?

Sory to hear about the Anime problem
Title: Re: UK Players Roll Call
Post by: Antooine on 13 February 2012, 11:50:18
The game last Sunday (A week ago) went rather well - the two players who came over had to fight for control of a dropship. It worked rather well, I thought.

I actually managed to get ahold of the London Anime Con people and ran some demos for 5 hours or so on Saturday - I'm not sure if I've won anybody over.

I think that my next match may be this sunday, the 19th but I have to figure things out with players first - we may put it off for a couple of weeks, but the next session is going to be a testrun of something that we're putting together for next year's GenCon, so as many players as can help out would be wonderful.

Yup - I think we'll be putting off the Vimy Ridge test run until the next time, to see if I can get more players.. speaking of which.. this Sunday - March 11- I'm running another Battletech event at my place.. any players near London (I'm in South London, technically Kent but I'm in Zone 4) who want to play, please email me or sent me a message and I'll send you directions.

That's what happens when you enlist in the DCMS.

The next event will be April 15 and will be.. .wait for it... the first day for the campaign. It will start with making sure al lthe characters etc are ready to go, and then starting a first mission (to make things simple, you will be only offered one mission to start with).

I'm going to be setting up some stuff on Dropbox so that all the documents can be easy to find/access.
I've had two more people contact me - one from Oxfordshire, one from SW London so hopefully I can get both of them plus another bloke i know from school - neither of the extra players we had last time want to join a campaign (one is going back to Canada and the other isn't interested in only running one mech at a time)

If you can make it for April 15 - email me and I will get you hooked up with the Dropbox

Looking to get back into the game, so I figure this is a good thread to start looking. ;)

I'm Dan and based in London (live in South West London) but life is busy (as Paint It Pink can sadly confirm)

I'm also pleasingly useless at playing so generally make for an easy victory when playing

I'm also happy to play MegaMech with people but would probably need a bit of time to confirm I've got the same version etc but have played a bit with some of the other Team Davion regulars

I've just posted up a gathering for UK players for an event in Coventry (strictly speaking it's Nuneaton, but it doesn't sound as good.....The Battle of Nuneaton, more like a task at a weight watchers weekend).

Peter in Chester.

It has been a few years since I've been on this list. Been playing BT since 87/88.  Have virtually all the games and books up to 2005 and a few of the later ones. Got the 2007 Introductory box and Total warfare,Tech manual & Strategic ops. Just got Alpha Strike. I have a big collection of mechs & vehicles - a fair few are painted. Always willing to bring models to play with. I too am a bit rusty but was a fair player back in the day.

Hi Gang,

Would there be much interest if I went ahead and grabbed us some space at the upcoming UK Games Expo 2014?

Taking place in Birmingham.  30th May - 1st June.

A few of us are going but I would be happy to schedule some organised play or demo/participation games if people were interested.

Fairly central point and easy to get to with some of the Irish contingent also flying in.

Let me know and I will kick off a proper event/challenge entry on the forum.

Right,

All being well there are a few of us attending Expo just to visit and lay out the ground work for running something there next year with a formal programme of support events leading up to it.

Expo seems to be offering a good venue and good organisational capabilities so I'm looking forward to planning something with them.

Never considered that con for BT, but if we do wind up doing something for next year I'd love to help out or stop by. Never actually tried the tabletop unless you count megamek but I'd love to get involved in that, I'd suggest we consider trying to drum up a virtual "league" or gaming group as well. There are plenty of us and it'd at least get us interacting more, plus we could demo the same at the con to hopefully garner a larger niche of ourselves and more of a public presence in the community.

As an aside it'd be nice to try for an annual meetup just to game or hang out as a group, possibly as a new year's event or something similar.

I have the 2008 intro boxset and Total warfare plus loads of mechs and tanks. Started playing when 2nd ed came out so still have loads of the older books & mechs. I have just started to get into the Battletech game and could do with someone/a group to help me learn the rules. Been a fan of the universe since Mechcommander 1 and always enjoyed miniature collecting, but I finally decided I need to actually play the game! Got plenty of models and I am located in Derbyshire (halfway between Birmingham and Derby). I work in Birmingham too. So if anyone is in the local area, do let me know!

Hey Guys,

Recently South London based (Greenwich) down from Lincolnshire. As it's cropped up in the thread.

I have the starter box set as well as the battle lance.

Up for casual games and perhaps a campaign. Though have always wanted to play a full on time of war-total war campaign, but I appreciate the level of involvement in that.

I'm quite rusty and haven't played a full game to completion yet.

Player around with megamek and against the bot type campaigns, so I feel I have a reasonable grasp of the universe.

Dark Sphere is a cool venue if any of you have been before? Good pubs nearby too and being near Waterloo the connections are pretty decent. Not sure what the requirements are to get a table there.

Thanks,

I'm based just down the river in Gravesend.  We have a modest Battletech community of five or six players with differing levels of experience at the local games club.

We're currently playing a campaign set in the Second succession wars and I'm planning a Jihad era campaign for later in the year.

Cool. I looked it up and It would take me an hour to get there from Deptford for an £8 pound off peak return. What days of the week do you usually play? I see that the club website mentions wednesday night but not sure if you play outside of the club schedule. I work freelance so plans can often change last minute. But would definitely be up for some skirmish matches at some point.

6-7 players seems a bit more than modest. I have struggled to find a group of players in London so far. I'm sure they exist. It's just finding them.

The wargames club meets only on Wednesdays, but directly opposite the pub we meet in is a games shop called The Mug and Meeple.  All off us are regulars in the shop and we often game there at the weekends.
http://www.gordianknotgames.co.uk/the-mug-and-meeple/

If you drop into the Mug at any point, tell them that Matt (that's me) told you about them, both the guys who work there are close friends.  I also can usually be found there all afternoon on Wednesdays because I don't work that day or have anything better to do with my time.

Short term, if you'd like to get a game in sometime in the near future, drop me a line and we can work something out.  I have commitments on Monday and Thursday evenings, but otherwise I'm not too busy...

Title: Re: UK Players Roll Call
Post by: Getz on 04 March 2019, 18:54:54
To be honest, anything you like - although I'd prefer if it was an official design and if it's using any exotic tech I'd appreciate it if you brought the appropriate rules along, although I will have my copies of tac-ops and interplanetary ops available.

However, I'd suggest bringing a "stable" of four or more mechs, one in each weight class and using relatively conventional tech.  The event is meant to be for beginners as well as veterans so be nice and only bring one horribly abusive machine...  ;)

I'm running the event so I'll be bringing a butt-ton on mechs of different weights and tech levels for people to pick up and play, so I should be able to match something reasonably fair against anything that a player brings themselves.

Hey, Birmingham here, never played a game other than MegaMek, never even touched a mini (gasp!).

I've only played a handful of real games and normally struggle to get MegaMek to work

I don't think so. I am hopeful that some traders will be selling Battletech...

There were a few items in the bring and buy, but didn't see much else last year. Obviously that was prior to the release of the box sets and map though. Hopefully they'll be more this year.

Well, really enjoyed the Expo this year. Alas, not much in the way of Battletech products for sale. Do you think Catalyst will try and push the new product lines in Europe?

Would be great to see Catalyst at UKGE next year

Hello all. Kind of a new player in London. Have played the Wizkids Dark Age game and PC games for Many years and been picking up the books for this version to read for years but only really started playing a few months back. Looking to get a lot more games in. Have been mostly playing at Dark Sphere in London and am looking to go to the event at Warboar later this month.

I'm in Lancaster SanchoPanzer.

All my books etc are back in Australia,Clan Invasion Kickstarter will be me getting back in actual tabletop, after more than a decade of almost purely megamek, and not even megamek in the last few years!

Does anyone know of any good gaming stores for finding BT players in the northwest?

Hey, I live in grays and I'm interested in playing some battletech. I've bought some of the rulebooks and mechs, but never played it. Are there any groups around London that play battletech and would welcome new players?

Yo, I'm in Plymstock, not that Plymouth is big enough for any part of it to be that far away from anything else!

Do you play anywhere at the minute, or would you be game for a meet up?

I am in Burton so not too far away, if you fancy trading AC20 Shells let me know and I can always make the drive down there for a game or two.

Hello!

Despite having a slight obsession with MechWarrior and the Battletech Universe for the past 25 years or so, I've only recently acquired some miniatures (thanks to the new boxed sets)!

Anyone local to Bristol interested in a game with a relatively new player, or know of any groups that play?

I’ve played against a guy that lives in Grays a few months back. If you have Facebook there is a Battletech UK Southeast. Mug and Meeple in Gravesend is doing a Battletech event on the first. Bit of a pain with the bridge toll. Could always ferry across?

We have a growing community in the SouthEast of England.  We have a facebook group at BattleTech UK Southeast https://www.facebook.com/groups/1245801392236276/

I also have a blog at https://comstar.home.blog

4 days to go before our War of 3039 Narrative Event, at the Mug and Meeple, Gravesend, Kent, UK.  Still time to sign up.  Beginner friendly - all you need is a BattleTech : A Game of Armoured Combat box to play.

Hi all.

Throwing myself in here too, as am moving back to the UK at the end of January 2020.  Will be based near Liverpool, at least temporarily, so up for some games if people are available nearby.

I'll just put the link here:
www.stagstelford.co.uk/ (http://www.stagstelford.co.uk/)

Currently, we've got about 4 regular players, including myself. Mainly play in the 3050's at the moment, due to the campaign we're running, but I personally don't have a problem with other eras. If you're thinking about coming down, you'd probably be best contacting the club first to see if there's a game on that weekend, as we have to share table space with a lot of other systems.

I'm just South West of Liverpool, on the Wirral, so quite close.  If you are still looking for games let me know.
