Modular (mostly) terrain for Alpha Strike...
« on: 08 November 2023, 07:29:13 »
I was able to finish painting a set of modular terrain for Alpha Strike. I have another set in the pipeline, that will get flocked green in the end.

I shamelessly copied the procedure Knorpelkeks specified in his thread here:
https://bg.battletech.com/forums/index.php/topic,78423.0.html

The only difference being I drybrushed some brown on the sides, for rainfall runoffs.

Here is a one-piece rock/mountain I made out of xps board leftovers, from multiple angles, as it's a more going on for it in all three dimensions than other pieces:

I hope this will inspire others to create their own terrain pieces, the same way Knorpelkeks' thread did.

I would like to seal and protect these pieces in some way, but I am not sure how to proceed with that. Any tips would highly appreciated.

EDIT:

Finished flocking the other set of terrain I made. Album is here -- https://imgur.com/a/toyoIQR

Hey man! Awesone work! Very well done and thank you very much for your support.  azn

To be honest I never thought about sealing because I always put a little bit of white glue in my paint. I would rather use a water based brush on varnish or spend a little more money for a foam save spray.

Thank you all!

To be honest I never thought about sealing because I always put a little bit of white glue in my paint. I would rather use a water based brush on varnish or spend a little more money for a foam save spray.

I have sealed most of these with a watered down decoupage glue that I previosuly used to prime/undercoat them (with added dark grey paint).

It does the trick, it's mostly self leveling, so it doesn't leave brush murks, but it should not be applied thickly for that to work.

It leaves a satin finish in the end, so a coat of mat varnish should fix that. But with this way of sealing I can be sure that they will last a long time.

Looks good.

I think the gray color will make it pop a little more then if you went with
a brown or tan.
After trying to set it on hex maps you might have to come up with some house rules
before starting a game.
When terrain features don't exactly match the hexes that often happens. That's the
price of making things look more realistic.
