.... the audience for Total Warfare may only be the same hardcore BT players that appreciate the tribute ;)

That's not the best way to insure the long term of the health of the game.

Recycling old art is a great way to save money though.

I'm not huge on the new cover either, but at least I can admit that it's just because I don't like the piece. Come on, folks, you don't have to come up with elaborate conspiracy or market theories to just say that you don't like the cover, either.

I was hoping for the Compendium: RoW cover myself

I like the cover because it's simple without being boring, it's detailed without being busy, and there's no major detail around the periphery of the piece to obscure with the title, subtitle, or other cover greebles.  It also helps that the Atlas is a pretty damned iconic BattleTech machine in a way that most of the things on the original Total Warfare cover weren't.

ColBosch & Scotty both make interesting points . . . I also think its interesting they used the Atlas rather than some of the other recognizable mechs- for all the complaints about lack of tying in to MWO or HBS releases, both use the Atlas as part of their branding.  So if you are going to reuse some old art, an Atlas is not a bad choice.  I think the 3025 Atlas cover might have been better choice, especially if the Awesome was left off.

As much of a fan as I am of Chaffee's work, the TRO3025 Revised cover just didn't do it for me. The 4th edition boxed set cover is the best color Atlas artwork I can think of, off hand. Though the new TW cover is still purty.

Same here.  I do like the new logo, reminds me of Mechcommander.  The Atlas image, not so much.

Just seems perception wise, that it is a step backwards from the "New Ruleset" feeling that I got from all the new art when these books first came out.

The Tac Ops cover with that Uziel remains my favourite by far, to me it is a shame that it will be disappearing.  Still, I'm glad all the eratta is getting rolled in, makes my life a lot easier.  And I've always got the battlemech manual for teaching new folks/getting them interested.   Mad Cat sells battletech.   ;)

Minor housekeeping note: I've updated the subject line to reflect that TechManual and Tactical Operations also now have new versions with updated errata. As we roll out more announcements in the coming days, this will be a good place to continue the discussions about those products.

The new printing of Total Warfare has a street date of Aug. 22.

Print availability for the other volumes has not been determined yet.

I am glad that the game is continuing to receive updates and support. The continued printing of the core rules will make it easier to attract new players.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but with the new printing of Tech Manual, maybe I can pick a previous printing at a reasonable price to complete my set.

I will pick up the core book when it comes out.  I'm not in hurry anymore to carry a physical new new one. Only because cash is tight, unfortunately Battletech games in my area seem to be out of sight.

Will purchasers of the prior PDF versions of Total Warfare (via the Battlecorps or Catalyst website) get an update to the fifth printing, or will this be a pay again upgrade?

(The download link in my account still seems to provide the fourth printing.)

I feel like the cover art is a bit dated. Seems a shot in the foot. New players don't want retro images, they want modern pics that draw them into the universe.

Hope they don't change the Tac-Ops Uziel as that is a cracking, modern, dynamic image...

Last I read, that was the plan.  I too have only old printings.

It's good to have a lonely retro Atlas in static position as cover on a book dedicated to Combined arms warfare. Sells the product.

Weird. I hated the cover before, but after that comment, I'm warming up to it.

I like the cover, don't see the problem. It reminds me of my old Battletech Manual. I dunno what the problem is, maybe it's my 3025 tendencies but the Atlas is the iconic BT image for me.

GenCon was still running two days ago.

General rule of thumb: pretend at least a week after a major convention that the lights are out and nobody is home at Catalyst in an official capacity.

Interestingly that makes dropping new product at that time a bad idea.
