DA Hoverbike Squad
« on: 28 August 2013, 21:35:48 »
Hi All!

I was looking to make this:

into a standard unit.  I know many would just call this hover infantry, but it has 2 guns on the front, one looking like a laser and the other an MG.  Plus it has a dish that screams active probe.

So how should I make the stats?

Thinking about a 10 ton Hover, though that is a bit heavy, obviously.

Any suggestions?

The thing to do would be to treat it as a mechanized hover squad from the infantry section....or so I think.

I like the looks of the 5 tonner.  I think that would realistically be it, and the speed makes more sense.

Thanks!

If you went with a regular SmL and MG, you only need 1 HS, which will let you use a FuelCell Engine. It's slightly cheaper at 59k for the 5t version.

If you accept a 13/20 move, you can fit 1 full ton of armor for 59,992cbills.

FCEs still need power amps.

Of course for a unit like this using fractional accounting is pretty reasonable.

Are you married to the idea of making it a conventional combat vehicle?

Because ultralight support vehicles would seem to be a good way to go.

Hmm, ok. The version of SAW I have doesn't assign PAmps to FCell vehicles.

Ultralight support sounds good, but I don't have tech manual and I am not sure how to make them...

Do you have a an idea of a build?

Whats the point on the HFF armor when you don't get any points from it, and it costs 10k more?

I think I like the 5 ton design with the ER Small laser the best, it makes the most sense :) Or the one with the medium laser, but swap it with a small pulse, better Anti Infantry that way :)

5 tons with an ER Small Laser can be surprisingly scary.... and while the medium, or even an ER medium can be scary..... I'd prefer to handle it with small weapons.

Too bad we can't use protomech weapons and construction for micro vehicles. So many kilograms for this or that, and you could build some very nice combat vehicles that would add a lot to the game.

Make it unarmed, and have it be ridden by a BA trooper. :P
Well, I suppose the rules don't support that outside AToW

If you want more AI, replace the LMG with a flamer.

You can make it a 5t Omnivehicle with 8pts of armor and 1.5t of payload, 17/26MP
Prime- ERSmL + LMG
Alpha- ErSmL+flamer
Beta- ERML, ERSML

If you restrict movement to 13/20, you can have 2t of payload, which opens up an SRM2 + 50 shots, or twin ERMLs, etc. (basically a lighter armored SavannahMaster with more weapons).
Heh, 4 RL10s anyone?

Make it an Omnivehicle and then a squad of BA can ride it ...
