Chicagoland July game
« on: 06 July 2024, 22:40:58 »
Hello,

The April game will be on Sunday, July 28th.

The game is at Games Plus.
(Start time approx. 11:00)
101 W. Prospect Ave.
Mt. Prospect, IL 60056
Phone: 847-577-9656
http://games-plus.com/

This is a unit tactics, bring your own game.

Every player is allowed 7500 BV to build a lance, a star, or level II.

You must fill all spots in the unit. I.E. 4, 5, or 6 spots filled.

For the clan units, 2 vehicles count as one spot, as do 5 proto mechs or 5 BA troopers.

You must have at least 3 mechs in your force no matter which formation type you choose.

Aerospace and artillery of any kind are not allowed.

Any book stock mech made before the Dark age are allowed, basically up to 3085.

Any faction restrictions, requirements that all of the units chosen be available to the same faction/era, or limitations on P & G skills?
I'm not sure I can make it, but I will at least prep a force or three to be ready if I can attend.
If you turn your back on science, it will take you from behind.

While i am not going to be a major stickler,  i always recommend following thr MUL. A clan star using a Wasp is hard to justify.

For P/G, the withing 2 rule for the max difference between the2piloting and gunnery. Otherwise, you can sink all your BV into 1 unit. It just means if it dies you are left with the crappy units. The pilots are paid for in the BV, so just keep it at 7500 or less.

Btw, since I said it elsewhere, you cannot have a full lance of all clan mechs or a star of only IS mechs.

One or two is fine for flavor,  just not all.

Dumb question: Are mechs from later periods that have only tech that was tournament legal in 3085 allowed? I'm thinking of units like the Viper (Dragonfly) M.

Not to answer for Reaper here, but doesn't that get into the slippery slope of fluffing out a future configuration as a "early one-off" to justify it for the scenario?

I was given to believe that "book stock" 'Mechs meant configurations and variants that have record sheets with the "Year" field to be less than or equal to 3085.

What I've done for December "Kill the Agents" games is to go by TRO: Prototypes, which has a list of tech whose rules level changed between 3067-3085.  In the past, the tech has been OK if it was listed there as Tournament Legal as of 3085. So for example, an Improved Heavy Laser would be disallowed but a Heavy Flamer would be permitted.  That keeps out tech whose complexity is not desired while not excluding configurations of existing designs simply because of when they were designed.

While I admit I did allow it for December, given that I have told people to use the MUL as the bases for what units they are limited to, I must say no to anything made after 3085.

I was going to show up with a full star of Ghost bear to fit in back to the drawing board.

Guessing showing up with a single mech and a Solaris stable paint job isn't appropriate?

You can do that, they just cannot be all IS mechs in a clan star.

Do you want our force list with the BV and piloting gunnery sent before hand?

Really wish I could figure out how to get 40pts extra.  If I change the gunnery or piloting on 1 unit I go 11 over the 7500cap.

Unfortunately, I'm not going to be able to make it today. I hope everyone has a great time, and that some one can post some after-action reports.
