Warship/Dropship AS cards
« on: 19 June 2019, 10:53:55 »
I was reading through the new aero rules in commanders edition (which I am overall really happy with!) and wanted to check some DropShip cards to get an idea what some of the rules might mean in play. However, I couldn’t really find any. It doesn’t look like there are DropShip cards on the MUL, and I didn’t have any in my collection of various physical AS cards either. I know I have seen one outside of the rulebook somewhere (probably a GenCon or Origins game), but can’t for the life of me remember where it came from. I thought I had seen one for a Warship at one point, but that is a much fuzzier memory...and honestly I’m more interested in the DropShips right now.

Does anyone know of a source for DropShip AS cards that I might have missed? I could probably work one up with the conversion rules if needed, but it would be more convenient if there were pre-mades somewhere I could just look through.

Turning Points Fronc Reaches and Vega 3039 had some. They both have a Union. Don’t recall if Fronc Reaches had a second DropShip card.

Ah! Vega! Yeah, that was definitely one place I saw one. I’ll have to go do that up, as a union and leopard were two things I was looking for.

When the MUL can support the cards, we'll have the data uploaded.  That's not my ballpark however.

There exists a spreadsheet with most of the stats.  A few cards as well.  Facebook groups have them somewhere.  I might be able to find them later.  Unlesd someone else finds them first.

Well I spot checked your work and found it good! (We don't talk about the threshold thing.)  Actually given the amount of stuff in that spreadsheet, very good job.  Thanks for the time spent.  And having found your numbers to be good, I made these a few years back using your numbers.

How about a Clan version of those, so we can at least get a proper Clan Invasion going on?

We'll work out the rest later in time, I'm sure...

@Thunder what's up with your transport specials? I'm seeing on the Leopard (For example) MT4D4

I'm guessing it is [unit type] Transport [# of unit carried] Doors [# of doors]
So MT4D4 means it can carry 4 mechs and has 4 doors to deploy them.
While the Union's MT12D4 means it carries 12 mechs, but only 4 doors.

If you really wanted to be able to crank out these cards, we would need a PDF with fill in the blank spots.  Sadly I'm techno-illiterate in this field.

And if the attachment works... a PDF version of the Union-C.  Which was not much better to create then using paint.  Slightly better ability to go back and edit text,  but the website (PDF Pro or something.) has a 3 freebie per month rule... so not a long term solution.  Also not the solution the MUL needs. (Which mostly involves filling in database numbers on top of a picture. And then making a picture out of that.  I know Skyhigh can do it... just need to get his attention on battletech long enough...)

In other news,  Minor PV discrepancy between what I calculated and what the Spreadsheet says.  Spreadsheet says 74 PV,  doing the calculations myself yielded 76.  Not much of a difference, but given how basic large craft PV is to calculate, something that needs to be looked into. (And mildly hilarious, since the last batch of errata didn't change the large craft rules at all, even though they should of been.  Wonder if commanders edition will finally fix it.)

As for math.
17+18+13+4+4+3+4+4+3+7+7+5 = 89/4 = 22.25 Offensive value (Short medium and Long damage in all arcs divided by 4 because its a spheroid.)
4*.25(Thrust)+29*1.5(armor)+6(Structure)+(3*2/2)(Threshold) = 53.5
53.5+22.25 = 75.75 rounds normally to 76

Hey folks, just found this and it's very useful.
I want to include a grounded Union-C in my next game and I have some questions, maybe I just missed some rules:
1) If I understand correctly, only the left and right arcs of the grounded Sphere can be brought into play against grounded targets. The "Front" in this case point straight up?
2) How do weapon crits work against the dropship? There's this STD/CAP/SCAP/MSL thing but the Union C has none of those except STD. Does that mean a weapon crit will always hit STD weapons?
3) How tall is a Dropship (in elevations)?
4) Does Damage Threshold for Aerospace apply when the dropship is on the ground?

1.)  Correct

2.) In the Union's case, yes.  All weapons crits will hit the STD line.

3.) As the Union is "Very Large" it covers a 4" diameter template and blocks LOS.

4.) Yes, Damage threshold continues to apply.

Height is definitely an issue if I want to use it in e.g. the Canyons maps. If I want to determine where it can be seen from.
The height is listed as 81m, and one elevation is I think 6m right? So that would make it 13-14 elevations high?

I believe height for DropShips is standardized. You don't look at the TRO. I don't remember what the height in AS is.

Is it possible that we ever see “AeroTech” or “BattleSpace” or warships for that matter in this scale?  It seems perfect!

What I was hoping for was a fast play version of the rules for warships similar to how alpha strike plays for the ground game.

I saw the above stat cards for the dropships and was hoping that something similar could be done using the warships.

Good news then.  Warships *have* been done with that system.  We're just waiting on the MUL to get the card graphics ready.

Should the Cargo Transport specials (CT#) for these drop ships have a number of doors (D#) following it?

This is my take on AS StatCards for grounded dropships.
We have already used the Union in a scenario once and it worked quite well (you really don´t want to get too close to a grounded dropship with any kind of ground unit...)

The letters after the damage values in the range brackets are abbreviations for the different firing arcs: n=nose, w= wing, a= aft, L= left, R= right:

I also modified the aerodyne firing arc diagramm (we play on hex maps):
