No Headcrest on Neanderthal
« on: 06 February 2020, 10:49:01 »
So I was a very sad boy when I put together my Neanderthal and there was mo Triceratops-esque head crest for the brute. Is there a shareable reason why this was omitted to anyone's knowledge?

Mini was created off new orthos due to some style changes that were wanted.

So sad as this mech had a real unique look and would have made a great mini.

I actually like that better.  It looks less goofy and more in line as a media portrayed Neanderthal.

Well the big reason it took so long to have it done was because it was goofy looking. It came up due to not many 3145 mechs were left to do and we got okay to create new orthos for the mini to be based off of.

Is that why its wavemate the Jupiter 3 has a different communications array on its head from the DA figure?

Honestly, i'm kinda sad the crest isn't there, because i don't think it's silly at all.

Ion Raptor had done a model of the Neanderthal with the crest and i think it looks really great.

Yes, part of the variant conversion was adjustments to the look of the mechs head.

Well dang. I guess I just felt a little deceived. Like, I bought a mini with the hope that it would look like the art, with no pictures available at the time of the model, and got a pretty decent generic-looking assault with a hatchet. It doesn't look bad - with the exception of some gripes that I had with the panels on it's back that look like they were sculpted with a toothpick - but still.

lol that's my model. I'll post pictures when I'm done with it in the Minis forum here probably early next week.

Not that hard to add your own with a bit of greenstuff or styrene.

Personally I was extremely displeased with the stylistic choices with the Clicktech game, and it felt like to me that Battletech was possibly going to disappear in a flurry of the figure games that were rampant at the time that really didnt have long term staying power.  Even Lego gave up on the Dimensions line.

:D I don't know too many real names vs forum handles, but I probably should've guessed that coincidence, considering how new the mini is.

That was one of my first thoughts. It's not terribly different from a Reseen Rifleman's or Galahad's radar.
