Seeking Input for a digital record sheet for AToW
« on: 29 September 2020, 22:32:37 »
I know it would be of benefit to my gaming group but asking here to see if there is any interest in a digital character creation/record sheet. It's something we've been mulling around for for a while to help us as we do enjoy the RPG aspect of BattleTech.

What I'm wanting to know from the community, would anyone else actually want it and/or use it?

Do eeeet. I don't know if I'd use it any time soon (see my reply in the longer system discussion), but I'd be very grateful to have digital entry and output in my toolkit. If nothing else, to grease the skids for players.
Alas poor Photobucket. I knew him Horatio, a fellow of infinite jest, of most excellent fancy.

Hmm.  I don't have much related to the RPG aspect - I'd say go ahead.

A tool like that would go a long way to convincing me to give ATOW another try rather than staying on MW2

Anything y'all would like to see in said tool? Besides just module/purchase XP options?

I'm not sure - you are talking about playing, right?  Something  like the old D&D 2nd Ed. Character sheets?

Hmm.  I could scan and convert to .jpg, then type to fill in the blank.  Cool.  Too bad I don't play it anymore.

I'm talking about a two-fold app. First part to be used for creating a character, another to be used for actually playing the game with. A proper digital record sheet.

Slow progress on a digital record sheet..... (maybe 2 days of work thus far spread out over the last month). Creation and Adjusting attributes thus far work in real time.

Edit: Software finally allowed me to add it.

I wonder how modular it is. For instance, I made a character at 5000 points (basic starting character) and wound up with 28 skills and 17 traits at the end. Can those sections be expanded or are they capped at the size that they're at?

Have you thought about putting a spot for page references for skills and traits?

Looks good though!

Haven't done Page # Refs yet as they may change between printings. Was thinking of having tool tips for basic info though. Each section is scalable by how many there are, skills automatically splitting left and right down the middle. Even the combat section with armor and weapons.

Oh, I hadn't considered the page references being automated, more of just a place holder for the user to enter the info, but obviously its a step or two beyond what i was thinking.

Some of the Paths are kinda confusing, such as I created a clan chara, and then had them lose and become a bondsman to another clan during startup... suppose to replace the bonuses with new clan, but then you lose the abilities gained.

Which sucks...

Would this allow them to continue with previous abilities, and / or replace them as normal?

I say allow them to continue but at half value round down...

There are rules for dual affiliations which I'd have to look into. Alpha version will be strictly point buy and the life paths will be coming later if CGL will approve it.

Did some work on the AToW Character Creator today. Personal Data, Traits, and Attributes are all customizable.

My spreadsheet (linked in my sig block) has some of the optimization math worked out (in formulas) when you get to that point.

I appreciate it but I'm no where near that. Still need to add in XP adjustments for Fast Learner/Slow Learner, properly handling multiple identities, skills, combat, vehicles, etc.

Following. I have been hoping for something like this for a while. Daryk's spead sheet is handy and our groups current go to. But I have been hoping for a true character creation program. Especially after using Chummer for a Shadowrun game we held over discord.

Thanks for the vote of confidence and providing more proof stuff like this is needed and wanted. Here's hoping my grand master plan comes to fruition. (Now if we could just get the email notifications to trigger since I still don't get them after months of complaining).

Id have no issue running it through my email service which could handle the load just fine. Costs less than $5/mo for what I imagine this forum generates in a month. I'd cover that cost if it were that to get the issue fixed. Right now it's using a Gmail account to send all mail from what I've gathered from others.

Made a little progress today on skills today. Need to figure out the skill display on the front side char sheet obviously (displaying inside an SVG and word wrapping doesn't really work with single line text lol)

Is Protocol supposed to be broken down like that, or is it just supposed to be the Primary affiliation? I've always just assumed the Primary affiliation (so Protocol/Kurita rather than Protocol/Kurita/Galedon).

But I can't think of anything that actually backs up my take on it.

Book says Protocol/By Affiliation so.... but it's probably meant for the main affiliations but I set it to this level for added options. Can still select the higher level if desired.

I look forward to getting a MVP Alpha out so others can play with it while I start on another BTech related project and get it to a MVP Alpha state.
