I am not planning to purchase a resculpted Highlander myself but one thing to consider is how many variant arms/launchers/covers/etc does everybody think is reasonable with a single miniature and how much extra are you willing to pay for the miniature and the spare bits that you may never find another use for.

Would it be better to consider additional variant bits for a separate fan funding effort assuming this would then mean the separately funded bits would be available as a "refit kit" or even so that a different variant can be sold as a separate miniature?

I really don't see the issue here. The parts don't necessarily have to be sold with the miniature; they can be sold separately in the shop, like the redone Thor/Loki legs and the alt. config arms for the Blood Asp (third sculpt). Not everyone here is a master at modding, and I think folks who like the Highlander should have options available to them.

HGN-738 would consist of: Right arm, replace Gauss Rifle with ER Large Laser, right torso, replace Medium Lasers with Heavy Gauss Rifle, center torso, add Streak SRM 4, left torso replace LRM 20 with LRM 15, left arm, replace SRM 6 with ER Medium Laser, head, add ER Medium Laser.

Assuming this requires a different torso, head and arms I would be in favor of a separate mini or conversion kit. As I said above I'll toss in another $150 to help make this happen but I assume it will take more than that.

I'm pretty sure I can make all of these variant parts work with the original design.  Again, I'll need info/art to proceed.  This can be done as a "variants pack" or something along those lines.

Well, Klat pretty much got all the weapons locations down... but no art exists of the 738, that I'm aware of. Unless someone could tinker with the orthos...

I don't think a new torso would be necessary, though, if we go for an SRM/HGR that simply fits over the existing surface. The gauss rifle barrel and the left arm's SRM pack could possibly be a separate pieces, if one chooses to omit them for the large and medium laser, respectively. The medium laser for the head could just be another optional attachment.

As for the LRM pack, that wouldn't need to be touched, I think: anyone could just fill in 5 of the tubes with green stuff and call it a day.

I would be adamantly against a variant requiring such modifications on the part of the purchaser. I will not provide funding for an incomplete variant.

I do not know of any art depicting the HGN-738. I assume orthos would be required before we can get an estimate. What is the process for acquiring orthos?

Very well. If we're going to go through with this, we'll have the entire sculpt modified, then.

I guess we could ask IAMCLANWOLF if he'd make an orthos for the 738.

I'm also wondering if we're even going to be able to do the HGN-738. We have no art and while the sculptor has indicated his willingness I don't know that speck is OK with all of this.

I'd like official word before I get too excited.

I'm very interested to see how this turns out as a miniature - but I'm also curious as to which variant this is?

If it's the HGN-734, it has an ERLL in the RT instead of 2x ML (though it also has a MPL in the CT, so the two laser ports could be construed to represent the new weaponry). It has 2x SSRM6 in the LT instead of the LRM 20, so 12 instead of 20 missile ports. And the LA has 2x ERML instead of the SRM6, so that should definitely feature a variant weapon arm?

Or am I just being dense and missing the point?

This was my hangup with the mention of an LB20-X. That's an AC20 representing the HGN-733C

Looks like an LBX to me. Similar to the omega's LB's. At least with the side fluting on the barrel.

Edit. And regardless of what you call it. I like it. Would work as an AC10 or 20 as well.

Awesome news  O0

Does the discussion regarding more variants even have any weight at this point? Should we continue or wait and push for a separate round of funding?

I am the Lead but I cannot speak on behalf of speck, B-3 or IWM.

My personal opinion would be that I suggest that additional variants (whether entire mech miniatures or as a refit kit) should be done as a separate round of funding and thus be sold separately from this Highlander HGN-732 Resculpt. The reason for my opinion is that I understand that the art for the LB-20X arm was pretty much already available whereas the art for additional variants would need to be produced from scratch for B-3 to then sculpt which will delay delivery of this resculpt significantly.

I have seen enough Defence (or Defense for you Americans) project which start as a simple enough requirement but then scope creeps happens. Additional requirements are added in by well-meaning and interested parties and, to paraphrase TRO 3025, instead of a stallion you end up with a camel.

EDIT - fixed typos.

I'm good with this. I'll bring it up during the next round of funding.

Credit is run through the webstore, it handles all of the book keeping on what is used / not used. The conventions are run by Jim for IWM, who has a separate system for maintaining show inventory and sales.

So, the alternate arm isn't enough to do the HGN-734 variant, it also needs a detail plate to change the missile box to the 2x SRM6, a detail plate with 2x ER Medium Laser barrels for the left arm and a detail plate with an ER Large Laser and a Medium Pulse Laser to change the right/center torso.  So, 3 more pieces to do this properly. [face palm]

There has been $100.00 paid for the HGN-734 variant right lower arm.  If I had known of all of the additional weaponry needed for this variant I would have asked for $250.00 total.

HGN-738 needs a head mounted ER Medium Laser (top or side mounted?), a Streak SRM 4 and Heavy Gauss Rifle detail plate for the right/center torso, an LRM 15 detail plate for the missile box and an ER Medium Laser detail plate for the left arm.  Will either existing right arm do for the ER Large Laser? So 4 (or 5) extra pieces.

This Variant will cost $200.00 without an additional lower right arm, $300.00 with an additional lower right arm.

I'll get the original done first then we can get the variants all squared away after.
