But is it BATTLETECH
« on: 12 February 2020, 11:13:28 »
No idea where exactly this fits, so Mods feel free to move if needed.

after about 6 years of dragging a heavy 3/4" 4'x6' board placed on a Folding table around a room for a bi-weekly game session, I've decided to HECK WITH IT! and started building a replacement table.

Here are the fruits of my labour so far. New table measures 50"x46"...why such a weird size? Well, once th hex Boards are placed on the table, there is very little 'dead-space' around the table.

The weird size is because I've made HEX Terrain Tiles, that measure 19.25" flat to flat (11 hexes across the flat and each hex is 1.75")

The table size means I can set up games like the attach map, and have them fit on the table with only a little dead space (would really love to have more 'tight' but better a little too big than too small!

So, a couple of Underside shots of the table, and one of one of the terrain Tiles on the table, showing how the lip will hold the tiles on the table.

Thanx, I'll post more once I have the rest built (planning on putting shelf or shelves and enclose the bottom for storage.)

they are, tho, I also have un-attached hills.

It's a matter of my desire to set up for a game quickly with minimal work, but also increased variance.

Why doubled 2x4s for the legs instead of 4x4s?  ???

Nice!
"That's Lieutenant Faceplant to you, Corporal!"

Things that I have learnt through clicking too fast on 'Move Done' on MegaMek: Double-check the CF of the building before jumping onto it, check artillery arrival times before standing in the neighbouring hex, and don't run across your own minefield.

"Hmm, I wonder if I can turn this into a MM map."

Update on Table. Spent the past week building drawers on One Side, and a Cabinet on the other side, so I have places to keep stuff.

Almost done...just need to fill the nail holes around the top, stain them, and paint the table top.

Maybe I'll even draw a Hex Pattern on the top for just cause!

hexing the top would save a step in setup

just blank grass hexes with everything else added on

Technically sort of true, but he already has a tessellating set of large hexes that already cover the entirety of the table. It could still be a good idea, though, for bespoke setups where the large hexes wouldn't be used for a particular game... just giving him more options.
