Miniatures of the Fortnight #86: Ostroc and Ostwar
« on: 14 January 2020, 22:57:33 »
This fortnight, we'll look at the 'Mechs that made paddleball on Noisiel famous!  That's right, we're looking at the Ostroc and the Ostwar.  The Ostroc, of course, has actual hands but the variants with Ostwar arms are the ones better suited for paddleball.  The Ostroc was one of two 'Mechs based loosely on walking pods from another IP, so they went through the Unseen and Reseen mess.  We haven't seen a Classic version yet.  Meanwhile, the Ostwar is a predecessor of sorts of the Ostroc and Ostsol but there's not much I can say about it that you can't read in one of the TROs, so look there!  Neither 'Mech appears to have a 'Mech of the Week article so, um, you can't go wrong with paddleball?

The Ostroc has had a few sculpts through the years:
  • The original Unseen sculpt for the OSR-2C (20-877).
  • The sculpt for the Reseen OSR-4L model (20-226).
  • The sculpt for the OSR-4C variant (20-317).
The Ostwar, as new as it is, only has a single sculpt (20-5115).

If you have any of these painted, paddle hands or no, please share pictures.  We'd love to see them!

Thank you for reading and a special thank you to those of you who post.

Our next two fortnights will be:
  • Clan (1/27): Invading Clans, Nova Cat Edition: Huntsman (Nobori-Nin) and Supernova
  • Mixed (2/12): Guillotine and Guillotine IIC

I have only painted the reseen Ostroc so far. The Ostwar is still a pack full of pieces.
This Ostroc is part of the canopian 3. Fusiliers.

Though i like all sculpts of the Ostroc, i though reseen's hand pose was odd.  Like its going tug on Assault mech's shirt (if it had one) to say  "Hey, your going too slow."

Did somebody say paddleball? :D

One Ostwar, Third Ceti Hussars.  I play it as an OWR-2Mb they found (somehow).

I find the SRMs on the Ostwar ridiculously oversized. Those things could Arrow IV launchers.

Nothing I did, other than a not so good paint job.  And that was the second try.  I gave up after that. :(

I love conversions of the Unseen Ostroc to have empty SRM arms, as seen in TRO3025. Wish I could fine one to post, but you know how it is when you're looking for something specific.
Epitaph on an Army of Mercenaries

These, in the day when heaven was falling,      Their shoulders held the sky suspended;
The hour when earth's foundations fled,         They stood, and earth's foundations stay;
Followed their mercenary calling,               What God abandoned, these defended,
And took their wages, and are dead.             And saved the sum of things for pay.

Unseen Ostrocs

One had a damaged head area, so modified it with a Thunderbolt head.

I didn't think about it at the time, was supposed to be a variant Zentraedi blue scheme.

Is the Ostwar 3M a Hansen's Roughriders machine?
