Alpha Strike Companion
« on: 14 April 2024, 11:24:24 »
Hello all, I've played Mechwarrior as a kid since my dad brought home a computer during the old windows 95 time, I played mechwarrior 2 as a 8 year old back then was just mind blowing.

But never really knew about the table top game. Or much experience in it either.

But any ways, I've spent many months finally getting into it and setting up my minis, and collection.

Have almost all the new edition CGL rule books.

I also got the pdf for the companion threw drivethruRPG.

But I love having the book it's self for my own library. So found a hardcover book.

I've doing my best to learn how to convert CBT sheets to alpha cards.. kinda getting the hang of it.

I just want to know if.. despite being from 2014, how accurate are the conversion rules in the companion book
And if there are any actual plans for a new updated one. So that I'm not wasting my time learning a system that will be bunk in a year or less

The conversion rules are almost all totally changed.

For the companion has all the errata needed to do it by hand.

I use mordel.net and/or MegaMek lab for their automated conversions. Doing it by hand and trying to account for errata doesn’t seem enjoyable.

Hey there! It's awesome to hear about your journey with MechWarrior, from playing the video games as a kid to diving into the tabletop world now. Sounds like you've been busy building up your collection and getting into the rules. As for the conversion rules in the companion book, while it's from 2014, they're generally still accurate for the current edition. However, there's always a chance for updates or revisions down the line. It's worth keeping an eye on any announcements from Catalyst Game Labs (CGL), the publisher, to see if they have plans for a new edition or updates. But for now, keep enjoying the game and your collection!

Anyone got a collated errata; trying to work out the PV calculation changes is challenging as the errata presents it. Thanks!
* No, FASA wasn't big on errata - ColBosch
* The Housebook series is from the 80's and is the foundation of Btech, the 80's heart wrapped in heavy metal that beats to this day - Sigma
* To sum it up: FASAnomics: By Cthulhu, for Cthulhu - Moonsword
