Fan articles, the thread titled "Fighter of the Week, Issue #091 - MÄ›ngqín" should say "Měngqín" in it instead.  Seems it's mapping to different accented characters than before.

Everytime i've left the forums I have had to relog in, the keep me logged in doesn't seem to be working, at least for me.

There was a problem with the text set up when we installed the forums, which created those issues. We'll have to deal with them 1 by 1, meanwhile it won't be an issue for anything new.

Everytime i've left the forums I have had to relog in, the keep me logged in doesn't seem to be working, at least for me.

A few things at the back end were pointed wrong. The problem should be resolved now. See if it still happens after you clear the cache and log back in.

Are the old forum archives gone for good, or is the proper URL still under construction?

I'm noticing posts I've already read with no new posts showing up as still unread under "Unread Replies".  Browser's IE9, OS is Win7.

I should probably add: Prior to reporting an issue, make sure you've cleared your cache, and then tried to reproduce the problem.

Cache cleared, still not seeing any css load for the page (WinXP, Firefox 7.0.1 and IE 8 ).

Edit: You may now add ubuntu 11.10 to the list.

Main site issues here too?

In the Legal section of the main battletech page, in the Disclaimer section there is a bold tag [\b] that is not properly rendered in the first sentence.

I'm also looking for the archives.  Roger Deathshadow's earlier warning about them going away at any time, but seriously, if you planned to take them down permanently during a planned maintenance period, was a little warning too much to ask?

Some might say "At any time" constitutes considerable warning.
Good news is the lab boys say the symptoms of asbestos poisoning show an immediate latency of 44.6 years. So if you're thirty or over you're laughing. Worst case scenario you miss out on a few rounds of canasta, plus you've forwarded the cause of science by three centuries. I punch those numbers into my calculator, it makes a happy face.

The "at any time" warning was given about nine months ago.  Some might say it lost some credibility over that time.

No problem. I appreciate it's quite annoying to have to go without, especially when it comes as a surprise. We presumed pretty much everyone had yanked what was needed from the archive by now.

I did retrieve my own stuff, but the many links made back to the archive in the nine months since the crash are now all dead.  One guy (aside from me) down in the RP section was just restarting a game that he ran last year.  I think he downloaded all of his stuff, but he can no longer easily refer new players to the old game for background.  As you said, it's just an inconvenience, but one that would have been nice to know was coming.  Archive.org may still have some links.  If they do, I'll let you know.

EDIT: It looks like archive.org didn't crawl anything deeper than the index.  Ah well.

No. Not everyone frequents this forum on a basis to know this. You guys should've given a few days warning.  *disappointed with the communication*

This. The entire migration came without notice. Just a note on the door saying: "We're out for a few days."

Am I going to have to go in and manually fix all of my posts in fan-fiction?  Or repost every last single one?  I ask because of the wierd thing that happened with the quotation marks; and now it is as annoying as Hades to read.  Almost incomprehensible, in fact.

At this time yes. There is a fix for that on our end, but it would mean taking the site down for some time to run a script. It's not in our immediate plans to do this.

Really? I got an e-mail a week ago Friday to bang on the new site. I expected to see something posted here about an upcoming maintenance cycle. Instead a couple of days later the site goes down.

"As a heads-up, we'll be performing some site maintenance next week. It should only take a day or two. Sorry for the inconvience."

A message like that was too much? Can't post a message at Facebook? At work we can have a message populated to our internal webpages within thirty seconds. Are you trying to tell us that nobody working on the new site had thirty seconds to put a message in the Announcements section here, to put a message up on the company's Facebook page?

Whoever is responsible for the website to step up and apologize for not giving notice that maintenance was going to be done.

Personally I would prefer trying to salvage the archives the administrators allowed to be destroyed.

I don't know how I should view the actions of people, who impulsively acted on a need to do something else, and ended up destroying the collective man hours the community spent, with everything from formulas and reports (stuff that's important to me) to fan creative projects (brought up by someone else in this thread), that are the foundations of how we think and act today, and we're still being used as reference.

We can do some of this all over again but most of this won't be remade.
